Threw mine away when it melted and exploded.
The new version after the recall. And nope, wasn't using a big pan or anything.

Was convenient to store and use, even though the butane canister didn't last long.

But after that explosion, lucky I was at the beach, I now use a pot burner that screws directly onto a 4kg gas bottle.

    • old model could do that and was pulled off the shelves a few years ago. new models have safety valves

Thats a feature not a bug.

    • can understand gas canister exploding but what melted?

  • When was the old model pulled? I bought one about two and a half years ago.

    Thanks

It's crazy how they just figured about the dangers of this just now. My family used to use these for hotpot for over 15+ years and we're happy to be alive

        • I"m curious what the actual scenario is though, often common sense and understanding you are handling gas is all you need.

The actual thing I want is the Countersink Release Vent on the canisters which I'm going to be swapping mine for.

  • SOLD OUT, it was on special all over but sold out at all stores!!!

  • i get very nervous with these. we used to have them for hotpot at home but there’s always a constant fear the butane canister will blow up in our face LOL

  • I have the new version of these from Chadstone VIC purchased last year and I need to hold the gas knob at a low turn or else I see orange flame which doesn't burn properly. Mine works but this is what I have to do for blue flame. Get Bunnings to swap/replace it if the burner doesn't go properly.

I have a dual burner that is listed for a recall. I can’t rmemever where or how much I bought it for. Can I drop it off to a retailer without a receipt for a refund?

  • I know these are popular, but they use disposable gas cannisters. So much waste. The gas itself costs nothing - the disposable cannister is what you're paying for. And you're tied to this one brand of proprietary cannister. There are lots of single burner portable lpg stoves available - and you can get the bottles refilled anywhere. If you don't mind a larger bottle, they are swap n go.

    • larger bottle is an understatement….

This is portable, a swap n go is not, and is just a huge pain in general.

If I was going to bring one of those, I'd bring a whole barbecue camping.

There is also very little waste because they last for a very long time for typical usage.

And you're tied to this one brand of proprietary cannister.

Not sure if you've used one of these before. They're the most generic butane canister around - even more generic than butane lighters whose gas refills have to come with a variety of tips. You can buy them from Woolies, Coles, Kmart, outdoor stores like BCF/Anaconda/Rays, Asian grocery stores just about anywhere in the world, etc. Any brand will work, and they've been under $1 a canister when on sale.

If you're a big user of small butane devices (like mini blowtorches, soldering irons, etc), you can even buy these two adaptors that will let you use those cheap bbq butane canisters to refill those devices.

You can also use those generic butane canisters to refill camping stove canisters like the ones used by Jetboil, Coleman, MSR, etc with this adaptor. It's much cheaper than buying a new canister each time. Just be aware that it'll be a full butane fill rather than a butane/propane mixture, which is important for sub-zero temperatures.

There are lots of single burner portable lpg stoves available - and you can get the bottles refilled anywhere.

I have both a portable single burner stove and a portable butane stove. When camping with a larger group, I'll definitely bring the lpg stove as it's more economical to run. It's a lot more hassle though - it's much heavier, has a stiff hose, and a relatively large tank (I've got a 2kg one). It's also easier to buy butane canisters as you can buy them at coles/woolies in a pinch, whereas refilling an lpg tank can only be done at certain places.
