Merino Wool Quilts (Australian Made) from $47.20 Delivered @ Linen Dreams eBay

1050
PEACE

These are often on sale but not all OzBargain professionals may be aware of them.

Made in Sydney from Australian Merino:

  • Weight ratings: 200GSM, 350GSM, 500GSM and 700GSM (grams/square metre).
  • Sizes: Cot/Cotbed, Single, King Single, Double, Queen, King and Super King.

Over 17,000 sales on that link alone and I can confirm they are high-quality quilts.

Note these can get quite large and will need storage space when not in use.
You'll also notice the prices vary only moderately with the GSM weighting.
You'll probably need to get them professionally cleaned now and again - they certainly won't fit in my washing machine.

In my case it didn't take long to get used to the weight of the 700GSM cf the older down quilt I'd been using beforehand.
Give it a chance and you'll probably be fine as well, though for a minority it may be too much.

Some discussion over here and they have a bunch of other stuff.

Part of the 15%-20% off Selected Sellers sale - note min spend $50 (before discount).

  • If the GMS more heavier more warmer?

    • should be grams per square meter, so… both?

    • Yes, the heavier the warmer, generally.

I have bought wool quilts from this guys and I can vouch for their quality. I bought another one for a gift. Love it.

  • +7

TDIL we actually still make stuff in Australia

    • +18

I guess it depends on how much of the process in made in Australia.
I visited a large quilt manufacturer in Victoria last year that is Australian made.
They import the casing of the quilt with 3 sides sewn and just add the wool in and stitch it up. Ta da!

      • But is the wool made in Australia ;)? To be honest that the largest consideration for me when buying these kinds of products. Yes it is actually wool so better fire resistance etc. I do think it is an issue with unclear branding though - some things are just assembled on location with literally every part being made overseas - probably even the machine they use to assemble.

      • +2

OK, this took me a while but i've resolved at least the following:

        1. They have a production line in Smithfield where they're making these things.

        2. The wool is from Australian sheep and is processed here - i'm pretty sure at the same site. There's some funky machine that does it all for them.

        3. The japara cotton cover is imported, though they weren't completely sure where from as there's several people involved at each stage, but i'd say it's probably China. I do know it's of high quality though.

So that's more than enough to meet the threshold for Australian Made.

        • +1

Wow. Did you James Bond their factory?

        • +2

          Username checks out

  • Thanks OP, excellent prices.

  • Got a bamboo quilt from these guys and happy with it.

    • Yes they also sell other quilts, but they're not all Australian Made (probably China).

  • +2

How does it compare to down quilts? 700g/m2 would be about 3kg (of filling alone) per queen size - is that heavy? What would be the down equivalent for similar insulation? I guess wool would be more stiff, not even close to down’s softness? (I have no idea!) Price-wise these wool doonas here seem cheap.

Eg. Ikea’s warmest down doona, queen: https://m.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/art/80420813/
    $149, 700g filling + 1500g fabric/case, filling is 90% down, 10% feathers

  • If only they had a 2 in 1!

  • What is the GSM number, I should use to survive the winter without the heaters?

    • +1

      Weight:
      350GSM: Summer Weight
      500GSM: All Season Weight
      700GSM: Heavy Winter Weight

    • +2

I've just recently started using the 200GSM for Sydney, but will use the 700GSM in winter (no heater in my case).
However some may sleep hot and prefer the 500GSM in winter.

    • +1

Yes MUCH better to get a proper doona and NOT run heaters overnight.

      • -1

I'd rather use the air-con so my face/head doesn't get cold.

  • Is anyone having problems using the code? It says it's not valid on my end :(

    • Just ordered at 6am and its working fine?

  • +4

I'm all for supporting local business in Australia. Have a +1.

  • +5

Thanks - rolled out of bed, $200+ spent within 30 seconds ;-(

    • It is a well spent $$$ though.

  • The only thing my wife says is that wool tends to be heavy compared to down and it 'weighs' down on you….anyone back this up?

    • +1

yes, the more the gsm the more it weighs.

      you can feel the weight

  • +2

I bought a 450GSM wool quilt last winter and absolutely and utterly love it. To me this level is very lightweight and for a Brisbane winter was the only quilt I needed. Plus with wool being as magical as it is, it stayed on well into Spring. $85 is a good price for queen

  • Do they even have a website, I mean the manufacture, where are they based? The price looks good, just not sure about the quality.

    • +3

There's the eBay entry you could read, or use something called Google, but given i've posted by all means stay on your couch and allow me…

      The eBay listing says:

      • For more than 20 years, we've delivered quality quilts at the best prices. No other place can match our value. You are welcome to visit our main facility at 193-197 Cumberland HWY Smithfield.

There's a website that is clearly the same operation, which states:

      • Luxor Linen - Wool Quilt & Bed Linens Address: 193-197 Cumberland Hwy, Smithfield, NSW, 2164. Ph: (02) 8722 0380. Email: [email protected]

The brand on what I bought was 'WoolComfort'.

      They've got a 100% eBay rating.

      What more do you want?

  • Thanks OP, 3 in 1 King Size quilt, a single quilt plus quilt covers for both for under 250 delivered sounds like a steal. Hope the quality is good!

  • thanks, got 2

  • Any idea where to get a quality King mattress protector?

Doesn't seem like they sell them.

EDIT: My mistake, they do, have bought.

    Awesome deal, thanks for sharing!!!

Love quality Australian made and our Merino wool is world class.

    • +1

I know these are good - Australian made with a 40cm stretch skirt (not straps).

    • Is it from the same company? Can you please link as I also need to buy protectors

      • Yes same company. I have just ordered, they look good.

        • I tried searching on ebay and I failed. Could you please link?
          Thanks for the help

          • @Mozzlah: I've included the link above - but here it is again.

Don't forget to enter the 20% off code.

            • @[Deactivated]: Thank you. Didn't realise it was same company. Just ordered one

I did also add PROJECTS on it. Thank you for mentioning it anyway

  • I'm looking at the Super King sized quilt, but a quick search reveals that its hard to get the covers in brick & mortar. The search link above doesn't seem to work for me - so can anyone suggest the best way to get covers around $30-40? I don't mind low quality but I do mind out right cheap and nasty. Reccs anyone?

Edit: i took the comma before "7" out of the link and it's made the link usable for me!

Further edit: super king sheet covers seem to be a minimum $60/$70 before 20% discount. Might be something to consider if you're getting the quilt for $80 and have to pay the same for one cover.

Further further edit: I managed to find sheets for $30 each but not through a PROJECTS seller. Two covers + a feather/down super king quilt for $147. Not bad at all!

  • Got a king 350 and 500. Thanks for the post and I shall provide feedback on the next deal from this company

  • Order one king and one queen size with quilt cover, hope their quality are good.

  • Excellent price, just ordered a 700gm Queen at $78.40. That'll last me through this winter. :)

    • How's it been so far? I just ordered the same and wondering what your experience be like. Cheers

      • I purchased a 700gsm Queen recently and am going to buy another one for us.

        • Is it for a queen size bed? I ordered King size thinking it would be sufficient for two people on a queen bed.

          • @Dr-StrangeLove: We've bought 3 in total. One of them is for a queen size and the other two are for doubles. We prefer quilts to be bigger than the bed.

            • @imissbeans: Great, thanks for your reply. I have ordered a king size 700 GSM for a queen size bed. Hoping it won't look too bad.

  • Don't like sellers who do not combine postage.Ordered 4x items two with free postage and the other two with $9 postage each. They still charged me $18 which I believe should have been free given multiple purchases.

    • Did you contact them to ask?

    • You presumably agreed to that when you ordered.

Having said that you can always pop them a message and ask them to combine if that makes sense (i don't know what you've bought).

Note i've only ordered stuff from these guys with "free" shipping.

  • Any suggestions about a quilt cover for the wool quilt? Thanks

  • Missed this Deal, does anyone know if they go on sale often or when I can expect this sale would happen again?

    • +1

Don't worry, it comes up in eBay 20% off sales quite often.

      • Thanks! I'm so happy to hear that! The weather has taken a turn recently and we're not well prepared!

        • +3

FYI, it's on sale again with coupon code PEACE.

  • These will start arriving this week.

    How about a few reviews?

    • Me too. The as looking at the Aldi option too

  • Anyone who already bought and used this,.. does this quilt shed ( the wool coming out from the quilt) ?

    • +1

      Not in my experience.

It's a pretty robust cover - japara cotton.
