I reckon this is a good deal too for someone looking to buy in this price category. Better discrete graphics (MX150), touch screen, a lot lighter. Only downgrade is slightly smaller screen.

  • I am not complaining that by modern standards 2kg is hardly considered light

for a few years now, actually. and I just complained, so screw it

but in all my experience, I haven't had my hands on a single HP laptop that didn't make me cry after a few minutes of using it. ProBook line included.

"HP", "laptop" and "ergonomics" can be in one sentence only if theres also "terrible" somewhere in between.

    • Own one and can't say its bad nor great but do love the backlit keyboard on this model. Have used much worse and also better. HP Probooks are fine and if the many I have sold over the years (not a single failure in 10+ years says a lot…..other than occasional HDD). My probook 4730 is still going strong (5 years of use). I rekon they are very reliable and only base this on personal & client support experience. If buying, consider getting the HP 3 year onsite carepack before existing 1 year incl warranty expires.
As for HP consumer range like Pavilions etc that's different and and not as well made (lower end one's). I think all Brands have their Pros and Cons and this model is well placed in its price range.

There is room inside to add a 2.5" drive for extra space and for those that like to use HyperV or Vmware, then stick another 8GB Ram in and works a treat

      • I wish I could say the same, but creaking bodies, uncomfortable keyboards, and those models where to get access to the innards you have to remove the whole bottom cover, and it's held not only by screws, but also by plastic clips that hold so strong, and are easy to break.. it just turns me off. why can't they just copy Dell Latitude already and be done with it? just fire the whole design division, and collect the profit.

recently I had a pleasure of handling a latitude 7490 snd 7290, and there was only one complaint: micro SD slot instead of full SD. remarkable craftsmanship, and unrivalled comfort, it's a sheer pleasure to hold one in hand and use. nothing in current ProBook lineup comes close.

I often have to deal with 55xx and 54xx Latitudes too, and they are your business workhorse staples. comparing to those, HP never comes a winner either.

        • I agree the Dell are nice and well built but they are a different class i.e.designed for mobility hence smaller and lighter. They also cost an awful lot more.
I also agree that HPs design dept come up with some strange ideas and often wonder do they actually use their own notebooks. Having said that, they are not alone in that department.
The Probooks are fine for the cost and as noted are generally reliable. Haven't had any complaints from end users. They do the job and not bad value especially @ $1120.00 offered here.

          • @Borg: haha they unpublished my comment for an ebay link. I was just showing a new latitude 7280 for $950. that would be a much better choice than this HP here.

          • @Borg: there are plenty latitudes popping up around $1100 mark in Dell Outlet all the time, they are no different from brand new, and carry the same premium 3 year warranty. that would also be a better choice

          • @Borg: also for instance I negotiated a $1299 price for a Dell Precision mobile workstation (bought mine for $1100), these normally sell for $2700, so you can have much more processing power for just a bit more money.

you just need to learn to never go retail. no one in sound mind and body buys retail Dell Latitude unless they paid off their mortgage and have $$$ to spare.

            • @[Deactivated]: All I am saying is that HP 15" Probook noted here or the 17" (Probook 470 which I own one of) are absolutely fine and not bad at all. Neither the best and far from the worst. For $1119.20 for the 15" model is a good price. All the Dells you have noted are 14" or 12" which is fine for mobility. No doubt there are 15" and 17" Dells some great and some crap.
It's impossible to say what is the best vr the worst notebooks as comes down to $$, needs, preferences etc etc. I always recommend end users compare features, look, feel etc and then compare/decide. Cheers.

              • @Borg: I do not agree since users don't know what they really need to do what they want, that's why I am there to advise and suggest, but each to his own :)
