  • Can I top up my existing account with them?

    • +2

No, but you could give these starter kits to family members or friends and ask them to put in your referral code so you get $20 credit into your account.

    • You can't top up per se, but you can transfer data to your other Belong services

  • +7

    Note:
Don't activate the service on a billing date: 4th, 12th, 20th, 28th of any month. I found that doing so means Belong charges you the monthly fee right away, followed by another one in 8 days. Activate on any other date means you don't get charged until the next billing date (1-7 days), and you end up with double the data within 8 days.

    • How can they charge you for 2 months in a one month period?

    • I got charged immediately activating it yesterday (31/3), with the next charge coming through on the 4th April. Not sure if that's the same issue here

    • No that's incorrect, if you activate on a billing date your billing date will become the following date, ie. activate on the 12th and your billing date will become the 20th. You do not get charged straight away.

      • Well, I activated on the 20th, while it doesn't show in the history, if I added up my current balance and all the charges, I am $10 short. Basically, on the date I activated (ported) my number across, my balance was reduced by $10 without an invoice. Then, 8 days later, an invoice is issued and another $10 gone. I did ask CSR about it, but they are clueless and insisted there is no issue.

When I add everything up based on history and my current balance, it shows a total of $70. I bought a $40 SIM, had 2 referrals, so the total is $80. Was definitely charged $10 right away.

When a family member activated (avoiding being one of those dates), she didn't have the same issue and essentially achieved double data within 6 days.

Maybe it is a glitch in the system, but it appears I am not the only one.

    • I tried three months ago, I ported my number in on 4th, the next payment was due on 20th.

I tried to activate… all I am getting is opps there is something wrong

    • Their online portal has been flakey for the past week or so. Trying to retrieve data balance via Android app or through the website has been hit and miss. Try again a bit later.

    • +1

Pretty normal for Belong. Their online portal and support are horrible, but they are cheap…..

Stay away guys save your money

  • have to pull trigger as my boost sim on my mobile and telstra sim on my mobile broadband is getting expired on 16th. perfect timing to get these i guess.

delivery fees for sim cards $12.80? seriously

    • +3

      Data weighs a lot.

      • 15gb in 2019…..i don't think so 🤑

        • +2

          I should've added a sarcasm tag :)

  • Sim slutters Be careful. Its a postpaid service. You dont get an option to cancel auto recharge.
Also i found coverage to be poor even in suburban Melbourne

    • do i need to enter credit card details while activating a sim with pre loaded credit?

      • Yeah. This is even the case with Catch and Kogan pre-paid vouchers.

With Belong, someone suggested to register with Paypal and immediately cancel authorisation.

I did that, but I cancelled manually at the end of the month just in case, which unlike with Kogan/Catch, requires a message to customer service and the service is pulverised into thin air as soon as the request is processed.

        • uc an cancel it immediately after activating i guess. thx for the heads up

          • @hopper: As someone posted previously:

Belong conditions say 'If you’re on a month to month plan and you cancel it after activation but before your first monthly bill you’ll be charged one month’s plan charge' www.belong.com.au/customer-terms?section=general-terms#suspe…

I think the $40 credit that comes with the card covers your first payment, but other people have reported issues cancelling or porting early. See: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/7077550/redir (Actually, re-reading the comments from that thread now, it seems the main person is vague about what really happened.)

In short, if you cancel payment authorisation owing money, you could be facing some unpleasant issues.

    • You dont get an option to cancel auto recharge

      From a previous discussion (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/7077082/redir):

Use PayPal and you can decide when to cancel the auto-recharge. Obviously, you shouldn't cancel before paying any amounts owed.

so for those feeding their main accounts.. what is the best way to use up the $20 referral on the account

    referral
    2 x 30gb
change to $10 plan for 2 months, then close the account? so 32gb total?

    • +1

Yes but I cancelled at 31GB because I worried I might forget to cancel.

Not sure why you got negged.

    • +1

What do you mean, I can not understand.

      • I wouldn't worry. OC gave a recipe for fraud. But for anyone to gain from it, they'd almost certainly have to identify themselves as the thief (e.g. gifting data or referrals to themselves). And even if someone went to lengths to hide their identity, Belong could immediately cancel any ill-gotten gains.
