[AMA] I Am Working in a NASDAQ Factory in Hong Kong & China

Currently, the manufacturing base of the world is no longer say as China, that new concept of China extend to be one belt one road China covering more and more nearby countries to be part of the China manufacturing base too. Like my working company, my boss is a German, and invest also the factory in Myanmar too else of China.

Try to ask me anything about that new China manufacturing base, the core is Greater Bay Zone, then, extend to one belt one road.

As per my acknowledgement from China, the world exist 4 Greater Bay Zone:

  1. New York Bay Zone: mainly serving for finance industry.
  2. California Bay Zone: core if Silicon Valley mainly serving the hi-tech innovation.
  3. Tokyo Bay Zone: mainly serving for precision components hardware
  4. My Current work, China Greater Bay Zone: mainly manufacturing the finished products & serving one belt one road.

    NASDAQ Factory

    What is this?

    • +1

Not sure if allowed to show the name in the public forum: one of the famous brand name is called Nissan Metal.

    • I assume NASDAQ listed company.

  • +26

I am working on an oil rig and am interested in buying your car.

    • +7

oh, i am responsible for the precision metal components manufacturing only.

  • +45

Is it difficult to manufacture American stock exchanges in China? What is the quality like? If I purchase my stock exchange from China, what kind of warranty do I get?

    • what you mean of that: manufacture American stock exchanges ?

      • +14

They mean that you have a small mistake in your post. It should be "NASDAQ-listed factory" (add 'listed')
This means a factory that is owned by a company that is listed on NASDAQ.
The one you wrote sounds like a factory that makes NASDAQ, which doesn't make sense

        • +4

oh, i see, sorry about it~~~~!!

    • +5

Its a knock off of Nasdaq company. You can copy anything in China.

  • Does the Chinese government get access to computer source code by default?

    • +3

Yes, they "procure" it from the other 3 Greater Bay Zones.

    • I am so sorry I have no idea on that political and security works from China, what I experienced over the past years, just their Internet Network are excellent & was. And most of the communications APP would auto-collect the users info likely any searching engine service providers in the world, and in their Internet Of Thing, most of the service provider must do it too as part of the security identifications.

  • What does your typical work day entail?

    • My work is the sales and marketing contacting both online and offline to our customers daily, especially deal with the China local customers. My working company manufacture only the components, not the finished product.

      • Is working for a German boss and a German company significantly different from working for a typical Chinese company?

        • +2

surely, firstly, all German boss and German company know what is Intelligent Property which is not just mean the copyright, trademark, etc. It's about the management insight to make-using of the right talent and team to make the company and formulate the eco system of the business.

Chinese boss somehow really get more skillful in earning money where the German boss really might not have. For example, Chinese boss care the property value and earn more property money can be more than focusing in productivity. Unless the company like Lenovo, Huawei or ZTE would be different.

As what i see from my German boss never have LV or Hermas, they even very skillful in using money to form the productivity rather than showing.

  • +6

What is a Bay Zone? Is it like Baywatch?

    • +4

It's a China new policy integrate totally 9 cities together including:
Hong Kong, Macau, ShenZhen, ZhuHai, ZhongShan, GrougZhou, TaiShan, HeYuan, FoShan, ZhaoQing, HuiZhou
To formulate a biggest productivity zone in the world, which say as a 2.0 version of the past Delta Pearl.

Which is not just the manufacturing, also the retail, touring, finance, farming, online, logistic, property, etc, say as diversification, in the view of the government, diversification means more dynamic and the operating power can proceed for longer time. And the foreign investor is not as high segment percentage as before, mostly are the local now or the new immigration stratup enterprises.

Due to the only biggest river in that zone is the Pearl River, and make the name called Greater Bay Zone.

    • His talking about the Pearl River Delta the triangle from Guangzhou to Hong Kong and Macau.

  • +12

Are you a scruncher or a folder?

    • +4

I am working in the sales and marketing involving to the technical support to the customer, in here, they have the sales engineer 2.0, it's even called Intelligent Manufacturer, due to anytime not just the technical support, also need to share whenever people expect. For example, any 2D design, product design, , open source application, as customer's part of the whole-product-marketing working partner.

In the past 3 weeks, China government launched a new public policy called Intelligent+, else of meaning to the Internet Of Thing, which is also about a social campeign of sharing the innovation with commercial value.

And that's what my challenge job in here to be the sales and marketing.

      • +14

        So… scruncher?

        • +1

may i know more what scruncher you mean?

          • +1

@kayserltd: Do you fold your toilet paper or do you scrunch it up into a ball?

            • +3

@iforgotmysocks: Hm….. suppose let me reply in the following way, which may make the reply in a more civilized way:

I personally have my education with British system from primary till get my territary academic with Communication & Electronics Engineering. My option is same as most of the UK guys!

              • +7

                @kayserltd: I have a follow up question.

Are the UK guys scrunchers or folders?

                • +15

@iforgotmysocks: I am so sorry that please allow me to stop to reply in-depth about such Sigmund-Freud's anal peroid question and thanks a lot for your reply to me!!!!

              • +5

@kayserltd: Did you speak English at these British schools?

                • +1

@Quantumcat: The academy were almost all English, else of the academy, all were in Chinese.

                  • +6

@kayserltd: And did the people in The academy fold, or were they scrunches?

        • 🤣🤣🤣
This is gold.. or brown.. hopefully not black or red!

    • kayserltd is in sales. I don't mean to be vulgar, so I won't. I sure they use a bidet.

  • +2

Do you see a lot of foreign workers (high positions like engineers and managers) and companies in your field and region?
How is the working life for them, and do they work in Chinese or only English? Since they might come from places like Germany with better working conditions than China.

    • +3

Yes, it's true, the foreigners are mainly in the seniors as management or R&D, not just in my field, also in other industrial field contributing a lot to the innovation to the optimization of the enterprise and the whole industrial chain of China. There are not as much as foreigners now in China as what I see compared with 10 years ago.

The foreigners keep of staying in here, is mostly about the adoption of living here and the success social life in here too. The salary is not the priority, and the opportunity of seeing China transform to be a super-Japan. Of course, the whole environment in China is surely not as good as their hometown, just needs to filter the right people for the social networking. In that moment, if the guys are the professional such as architechture, lawyer, are the very quality people.

People learn both Chinese and English is about the social life networking, nothing associate with the politics, in fact, even no body care the political works, no election, anyone can neglect any political life in here with no doubt.

  • Do they allow normal access to ozbargain or do you need a VPN?
Is there an ozbargain equivalent in China?

    • +3

for me, visiting ozbargain with no problem in here with company internal online service which is the own HK IP and allowed to use after applied.

In China not exist of the ozbargain, as what I know, at least in the coming 5 years are not possible too. Due to:
no credit system in China. The credit is about people say the truth to share. If ozbargain operate in China, I can make sure, near 80% will be the ad-accounts who registers hundreds of the account and express the hidden-ad-message to lead and even mis-lead the guys to buy their products.

      How China operate such credit?
They use real name to register the account and trust only from the big platform, even not about trust the comment, it's trusting the member's past real success deals. for example, the 58.com

  • How much does it pay and if lots can i have a job?

    • I must be silience of it, due to the employment contract.
The job for a foreigner working in China is always challenge, near in Silicon Valley.
And that's the bottom-line that I can share publicly.

      • +2

Lol ok , ill just be jobless then

  • Is it true that even you own your land one day the government saidcthey need it then they just took it with minimum compensation?

    • yes, it's true, it needs to know the land policy is about the own right of using the land for 70 years, the real land is never owned by anyone, only the government own the land. In China, it would never come up a news saying Japan can buy the whole L.A.. Due to the land sell only the 70 years using-rights.
And when the governments, government really pay much more than renting fee to the using-right-owner or give them another land or property. Then, the government legally take the land back for other building purpose.

      • Even when there is builging on top of the land

        • yes, even exist the building on top of the land. It can just get more penalty, and still need to move out, indeed!

    • +3
      • I think in China you have no right to protest, even legally you can execrise your right but government just find a way to stop you.

        • That's a trust in China, power game is always prioritized if facet to the government. Else of the government, the legal service makes anyone fair, unless the very rich people can employ many lawyers to protect them, then, they can have more social benefit can take. However, when face to the government, they are still the same as an citizens.

When Trump is illegal, Trump can come down too. American people never afraid to say something bad about Trump if exist of evidence, however, American people also dare not say anything bad about their both parliment political parties, due to political party operate mainly also the power game not just the legal.

Just in China, such power game is very easy to get observed publicly. And in American, it's very hidden.

        • +1

Check that link. It sounds like the NSW government screwed people who didn't want to move super hard. And there were heaps of protests too which were basically ignored.
Just saying, land acquisition isn't something we have much moral ground on. Especially when it's for dumb short-sighted projects that lead to even more clogged roads very soon. (And which are delivered in a general haze of shady rubber stamping and privatization of public funds and infrastructure, while also possibly being motivation for the merging of councils to reduce opposition.)

I think China's displacement of people sounds really bad (and is really bad) in part because they are doing absolutely massive projects, but hopefully ones that will be valuable for a very long time. Like their massive water transfer project that shifts water over 4000km (and displaced hundreds of thousands). And I just heard they that in the last decade they went from no high speed rail, to more than the rest of the world put together.

It almost feels like they're getting ready in case of a recession. Like if the world economy collapses, at least they've already got all this stuff ready, plus a bunch of ghost cities, that they should be sorted for a while.

          • +1

@crentist: In China, when President Xi be the national leader in 2012, he starts to transform the country a lot. First is not that rely on the foreign investment to keep the growing of the economy, higher GDP in China comes the other problem that the social weak get even more weak and strong class get even more strong. For President Xi, more money doesn't mean more benefit to more people, but the productivity. Such national policy is started its function to minimize the recession problem.

Ghost cities in China exist many meaning, for example the empty factories in China Dongguan, where really comes 1/3 of the past factories get empty and even its nearby residential estate. That's really the problem of the over investment from the past, in China, the cities are also over-invested, and the foreign news media say it as Ghost city in order to express how terrible of the national over investment. Why in China so many people waiting for more policy from President Xi, due to he transform the economic power to serve more people without increasing the GDP, it means solve the problem and optimize the life without using (more & even less)money. And he has done of it from his past 5 years.

I think the foreign news media reporters really needs to stay in China for a longer time, that would see a Capitalism + Socialism Hybrid China, which is the China's own sociology.

  • Can all the 鬼佬 making fun of OP's English please stop it??!

My question is, what are the conditions like working in your factory? (Pay/hours?) Are there many opportunities for learning new things, moving to different roles?

    • +3

I don't think terms like gweilo work well against Australians, as we call New Zealanders names and vice versa as a sign of friendship. I'd happily wear a gweilo or nanbanjin T-shirt. Not bothered, possibly the opposite. Scandinavians also spring to mind as people not remotely fussed by racist taunts.

One funny racial stereotype is about Asians being great at maths, when I have tried discussing advanced sedenion, trigintaduonion up to centumduodetrigintanion decomposition methods with many just to test the theory. Myth totally busted.

      • +2

In fact, I also never know why there are existed such myth saying Asian smart in maths, Asian really have better performance in the technology but never the science, Asian is typically designed for the productivity and most of the Asian parents not that welcome of the R & D. If in Hong Kong, we have the STEM edu to the kids, Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, never focus at a particular subjects.

In Asia, exist a big problem from the edu system that we still have the Examination lead the Education, so, Asian kids are really excellent in examination to get the awards, however the real world is about the competition with the own advantage not the examination results.

For me, somehow I would by heart to respect German, Russian and Ukarine, due to those countries invest a lot in R & D and science, in those countries, they needs to do it in order to keep of their leading industrial position in R & D to let the customer "walk-in" to buy their uniqueness of the innovation. They do not need the big scale GDP, their people keep of living and enjoy the life with the own ways.

      • +1

Can confirm. Asians good at math.
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoYC_8cutb0
        Also good at English too.

        Senor Chang:
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1E9ucBTHsg
        Also good at Spanish.

    • The condition of working in such company is firstly the experience due to need a lot of the social skills and surely no model answer to the daily works, that's what the developers love such jobs. Secondly is about the academic qualification, surely we are in the commercial world which needs the qualification to deal with people and the world. If the person ever experienced in working in both multinational company and small enterprise, that would be helpful.

The salary is in monthly base, as what I know almost never employ the parttime, which means decline the hourly base salary, usually, such hourly job are the very bottom-class job, the would fix in hourly base. And the German boss really care the employee's quality and care the output by employing only the monthly base workers. And the salary is really a sort of the confidential info from the enterprise, I am so sorry that i cannot express publicly.

It depends on what content that you want to learn, for example, China trade can really learn a lot, when stay in China, it would see the totally different picture of China where is the biggest capitalism in the world and available to buy any new technology from the world and even keep of importing the talents to stay in China to develop the local commercial eco system with the biggest amount in the world. Everyone learn from the new ideas and design and technology from working with different people from the world in China. Most of the people get learning from the national management how fast of everything get moving and the youth are willing to work hard to enter the middle class earlier.

In the big factory, it can really shift to the different role of the works, or more promoting opportunities. Usually such career path is about the promoting to the management or shift to the other countries to work. The job nature would not change so much.

      P.S.
My British language tutor did share in the class, English played the role of the commercial deal only in terms of its simplicity. She personally known also Russian and French, in those Languages users community, almost no fun from the OP's due to theirs really heavy quality.

What are you having for lunch today?

My favourite AMA so far. Thanks OP.

    • This.

    • -8

Prolly bamboo shoots, dipped in pigs blood broth.

    1. Why are you on an Australian bargain website if you live and work in China?

    2. As a person living in an authoritarian state of 1.3 billion people, do you feel like you have any control (or even say) over the wider society in which you live? Or do you feel like a cog in a big machine?

    • +4
      1. Probably resides in Chatswood or Box Hill

      2. Not much different to living in Chatswood or Box Hill :D

lol this is so fake. gtfo plz

    • why do you think this is fake?

  • +8

    Need to England better

  • "As per my acknowledgement from China, the world exist 4 Greater Bay Zone"

Where do you see India in the future economic playing field

    • +2

India has massive problems with infrastructure - and then the Bureaucracy! (17 days to start a company).

Then there is the issue of import problems (they love to tax imports, which is bad if you use those imports in manuf).

There is a reason why software and call centres have taken off.

      • While I don't doubt there's a lot of bureaucracy, I don't think 17 days to start a company is a very good example of that. That's hardly a hindrance in the grand scheme of things!

        • The ranking of India: 130 out of 190 in ease of doing business

It takes India over 3 weeks, that is assuming they allow your name, etc. In Australia it can take less than 24hrs.
"IS NOT a very good example of that."
I contend its is a fine example of that.

          • @Other: It's not a good example as it doesn't really hinder anything… Unless you regularly start companies with less than 17 days of planning?

            • @callum9999: What is the time difference in % in opening up a Australian company vs an Indian company? Please let me know if you think that is a big number or a small number.

And simply because -you- fail to see that people may need a company before 17 days does not invalidate my statement.

    • I personally think India has the own reaction to the world, just like playing the card, when in the hand cannot have the good cards, it needs more skill to have small win, instead of seeking for the biggest winner or stable winning. And India is such wisdom country. Almost not possible to seek for any other people from the world can be the prime minister of India. And most of the Indian domestic problem is not just about the money problem but the social fortune balance and religious. I think India can help to world to re-shape the life style by fulfilling only people's demand instead of desire, desire is anyway cannnot get fulfilled over the life.

What is this post even supposed to be, feels like google translate replies…is this some communist propaganda?…

    • +3

Improving search rankings and making money testing AI bot replies.

    • I think Putin is the best samples of the 21 century communist with very skillful communist propaganda. I am nothing associated with political field, somehow I would use the commercial view to see that their advertising capability get even more skillful than the multi-national company.

      • +3

What we know about Putin after 1991, is:

He consistently acted and sounded like a professed adherent of Capitalism.
He personally and his family and friends all greatly benefited from the fall of the USSR and the onset of Capitalism.
A Communist takeover in Russia would destroy everything Vladimir Putin has achieved so far.

Putin is far from a Communist.

        • suppose we might also think Putin is a Reincarnation of any Tsar before and come back to take back whenever belonged to him, his family & his close friends? Boris Yeltsin might be the role of Tsar's Empire "Lenin"?

    • +1

He's a marketer from China doing introductions prior to posting an ad here.

    • I thought it was a joke, but the guy is giving very intelligent replies.

  • +1

With the Chinese social credit system in place, is there a growing trend of citizens dobbing their neighbours/friends/acquaintance to the authority for "untrustworthy behaviour" to increase their social credit? Kind of like what happened during Mao's reign?

    • +1

It's hard to explain about such credit behaviours, when a kid live in the school accomondation, they would know the social interacting and formulate the proper manner and trusting to each other. And they would also know the role about money in their social life. That's really hard to explain with the text, it would just acknowledged.

  • What do they serve for lunch?

Also, does the rest of the world not exist aside from those areas?

    • The lunch are the ordinary rice, vegi and meat likely usually the touring group food and beverage. That make people stomach full with enough nutrition.
hm… The world in China would mean mainly the one belt one road, not really the UN means the whole earth. And that's what China new government from 2012 doing, make the whole country likely an API to share the commercial resources with all one belt one road members.

  • Thanks for the AMA. So you live in Hong Kong? Where did you hear about OzBargain? Have to been to Australia?

    • +2

Yes, I am living in Hong Kong and grow up in Hong Kong, for me, here is a very nice place to me. For example, I can enjoy more than 10 hot-spring resorts with my family with very low price in the nearby cities.

I heard OzBargain from a friend in Hong Kong who is one of the active members in selling products in OzBaragin, as per he shared with me, that OzBargain is a Australian trustful info-source platform to share the useful info helping people to buy and buy with the price as low as possible.

I was in Australia in 1999 to visit my friends in Sydney and Melbourne who was my secondary school mates, at that time what I respect to the Australian custom is that they are really very very restrict to the food importing especially any chicken made food and even snacks. Where contribute a lot to the healthy system of their own country, at least annually, save much public medical expenses.

      • Thanks for the reply.

Hong Kong, for me, here is a very nice place to me

I've been to Hong Kong a few times, I really like the roast goose dish there (燒鵝).
        Great city with friendly people!

Yeah, we're very strict with customs here, probably even more so now (compared with 1999)

        • That's an innovative service from Australian custom I personally guess, usually, people think custom is about anti-copy stuff, smuggling, anti-drugs etc. Seems in Australia means also part of the national medical & food "department".

In fact, there standard might consider as part of the open source to share to the world about the first defence of the healthy. Healthy is something that more than money can "buy". Surely the government can do better than the private enterprise.

    Are you a bot.

    • no, an engineer, a real human. A.I. still cannot express the human emotion properly.

      • +13

  • Is this an ai bot test?

    • surely, not, the real human!

  • +1

How much will you pay for 1 tin of baby formula?

    • hard to reply of that question how much I will pay. The baby formula in Hong Kong & more seriously in China is the demand much bigger than supply, the consumer never have the right to decide how much they will pay, it's how much they can afford. All of the famous imported brand are fixed with almost the same price. In Hong Kong, the retail price is around HKD300/tin.

      • Thats about right for HK price. I think the ones shipped from here would have a upper price of $80-$90 per tin.

  • +1

Is it hard to get a job in China/HK as a foreigner ? I'm married to a chinese national, was thinking the easiest way would be just to do some form of internet business since I think getting a proper job over there is a bit hit n miss especially with limited mandarin/canto skills :-/

    • As I know really not that easy, most of the people are from the job shifting to work in here, so, they can keep to communicate with English. And usually there are also the senior jobs that the local market cannot fulfill at all.

Alternatively, suppose work in a multi-national company who is active in China especially the energy industry, China is in emergency demanding of the clean eco energy. About the online business, I have no idea what consumer products are demanding, maybe you can get any idea from 2 places in Hong Kong called Tung Chung & Sheung Shui, there are many online traders frequently travel there to have the China trade sourcing from Hong Kong, and very dynamic.

  • Thanks OP. Insightful.

    Why the kayserltd name? https://www.google.com.au/search?tbm=bks&hl=en&q=kayser+limi…

    Are you a Steel/Chemical/Engineering firm?

Oh and what is the meaning to life?

And would you accept $1 million dollars today, or $100,000 each month for 10 months?

    • +2

I am working in sales and marketing, due to needing the technical service and the understanding of the product, so, it needs the engineer nature to do that job. The materials of my working factory is about metal.

For my life, family is my only core-value, where keep of investing my next generation just like my upper generation invested me, in order to keep progress of each generations. And that's the meaning of my life, individualism is only small part of my life, personally, I never think a human can stay alone, human's success is about based on "group" instead of individual, and also have very active interacting and sharing to each others.

Money is surely not that so important for me, I am not saint nor holy guy. We can see so much jetpot people, who get even more poor and even shut down the life, due to suddenly getting big money. Such big money stimulate a lot of their hidden and recessive desires, and as stimulating as powerful as making them lost the life. They do not prepare to accept the rich life yet nor even more money. People get cheated not because of stupid, it's because of greedy and get cheated. If give me 1 million, I even do not know where can I and should I use it. Personally, I think money is not more is better. It's what goal and purpose that I need the money as a tool to realize it.

I am not Lama, the living in the commercial world needs the certain level of the money, it's also about the personal and family degnity, the question is that needs the bottom line and acknowledge thyself why I need such amount of the money for.

  • how come you are not working and on an Aussie forums, seems like you have plenty of time on your hands!
