Any Good TV Shows?

Wondering if anyone could recommend any excellent TV shows. For reference, I just finished watching Better Call Saul, and very much enjoyed the style of storytelling. Also really liked Silicon Valley.

i'm currently watching parks and rec, and finding the humour a bit forced.

Comments

  • Six Feet Under. Twin Peaks.

  • If u like better call saul u will like "mr Inbetween" its new, just stared watching it. Its damn good.

And also watch game of thrones the greatest tv show of all time. Watch it all now before the finale in a few weeks or u will not be able to watch it ever again. All about the ending.

    • And also watch game of thrones the greatest tv show of all time.

First 4 seasons were good. It has been slowly downhill from there.

  • You - netflix

  • Firefly

  • I totally agree with those who mentioned (or didn't) GOT, BBad, BCSaul, Dexter (and Michael C. Hall's earlier work in The 6 feet under), LDRobots (not all but 40-50% are great), The wire, Ozark, Lost (old), Prison Break (old), Expanse, Orange is a new black., BS Galactica. They have very good scripts and well-dramatised stories.

I also would add the once I watch for a good plot, storyline and scripting: The Man in the high castle(!), The Americans, Luther, The 100, Current Star Track, Daredevil, The Walking Dead (a bit slow in the last one or a few season(s)). Person of Interest, The rookies, The Blacklist, Arrow (screwed recently but the strong story at the start), Colony, Into the Badlands(sometimes wick).
I wish these ones wouldn't get axed within the first season: Alcatraz (Sam Neil), The Night Manager (Tom Hiddleston and The House guy :))
Generally, I take the advice from colleagues of the industry, then go to IMDB and check if the rating 8 stars or above, then read the plot and only then I try it out. Worked for me with Dexter, GOT, BB, Prison Break, Lost etc. "Luther" I would never know about if the professional writer K. Segers mentioned to me. Do the same and you'll be ok.

  • Love death and robots is great!

  • Probably already been posted, but here's my few recommendations:

Game of Thrones. Altered Carbon. The Expanse. Westworld. American Gods. Vikings. Firefly. Supernatural. Torchwood. Fringe.

That should keep you occupied till the heat death of the universe :)

    • I’ve yet to watch so many of those you listed. Honestly, I’m hesitant to start Supernatural. 15 seasons!!! But I know it’s my duty to watch it in time to watch the final season.

      • TBH I haven't watched all of Supernatural - they were supposed to finish at the end of season 5, which is where I stopped!

  • Really enjoying The Americans right now. Russian spies in the US during the cold war if that's something you're into

    Also would recommend:
    Killing Eve
    Westworld
    Altered Carbon
    Russian Dolls
    Umbrella Academy
    Dark

  • The Wire
    Deadwood
    Black Mirror
    Sherlock
    Breaking Bad
    Peaky Blinders
    Gavin and Stacy
    And
    The Knick

Dont know if anyone has mentioned these already.

  • Nobody seems to have mentioned the mini-series Generation Kill. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0995832/
For reference, other shows I rate: True Detective season 1, Fargo season 2, Justified.

  • If you like British comedy then 'Not going out' has some good episodes. The only issue is there are no sub-titles and not everyone may follow the accent. Check out episodes titles like Surprise, Plane, Pointless, Baby, Winner, Rabbit etc on You Tube before buying.

  • The musketeers
    Archer
    Making of murderer
    Read a book.

Sorry, I don't watch much tv.

    • Old people used to say that reading books was a waste of time. These days, cinema and video games are a waste of time. There's nothing wrong with appreciating art.

  • +1

    Broadchurch

  • I was going to suggest Better call Saul at the moment I saw the title, but you are s'good man already. This show is outgoing so in 2019 you can still watch season 5.
The old X-files was great show to watch, the new season was ~ average to bad, but still something related to the good old series. If you didn't watch it give it a try.
I never had the time to see this show, but True Detective claims to be very, very impressive just like Breaking Bad was. 9/10 score at IMDB. Here is demo = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_HuFuKiq8U

  • Mindhunters,
    True Detective Season 1

  • Schitts Creek
    Peep Show
    The Inbetweeners

  • Brooklyn 99
    The Good Place
    Kim's Convenience

  • I'm surprised no one mentioned Get Shorty.

Chris O'Down and Ray Romano absolutely kill.

  • +1 for The Good Place as recommended above
    Good Girls
    Mayans MC
    The Orville
    Whiskey Cavalier

  • In no particular order:

    Netflix
    - all Star Trek series, Marvel series (Gotham, arrow, luke cage, iron fist, defenders, titans, daredevil, agent carter), ozark, love death & robots, tidying up with Marie Kondo, the good place, blacklist, lost in space, stranger things, orange is the new black, manhunt: unabomber, house of cards, vikings, marco polo, grimm, homeland, merlin

    Others
    - Game of thrones, Big bang theory, friends, two broke girls, band of brothers, the pacific, deadwood, flash, supergirl, agents of shield, firefly, heroes, heroes reborn, battlestar galactica, legends of tomorrow

I'm sure there are plenty more that I've watched and enjoyed but the list above should tide you up for now :).

  • I'm quite enjoying 'The OA'.

  • Riverdale is some good trash, though don't expect an engaging plot.

Other shows of note include Suits, Jessica Jones, Luke cage and all the marvel shows, kimmy schmidt, Russian doll (can watch this in one sitting), house of cards s1-5, designated survivor, Lucifer, sense8, happy Valley, Santa clarita diet, You, Body Guard, OITNB, black mirror, the kominsky method, Grace and Frankie, The Fall, The Good Place..

  • South park

  • Ed

  • The Expanse
    The Magicians
    American Gods
    Altered Carbon

  • Hard to believe didn't make the first page of comments..

    WINTER IS COMING..

  • I Love Lucy.

  • Boardwalk Empire is without a doubt the best tv show ever made

    • Goliath on Prime also pretty good

  • Based on what you liked:

    Fargo
    Fleabag
    Ozark
    Cobra Kai
    Curb Your Enthusiam
    The Fall
    Narcos

  • definitely the wire

  • +1

Battlestar Galactica. I'd argue it was the original sci-fi go to in terms of nitty-gritty before expanse (though Id still consider expanse perhaps better. Battlestar can at times be long/drawnout, but if you stick with it, it has some awesome climatic scenes and very decent payoff. Nuclear war, end of the human race, A travelling space colony, an AI who is hunting them to extinction.

  • +1

    The Americans.
It had the best finale episode.

    • Miss that show.

  • Mr Mercedes S1. Haven’t watched S2 as yet (Ret Dick vs physco killer thriller)

    • S2 was pretty much rubbish.

  • +1

The Alienist is awesome. If you love a good murder mystery this US Netflix show set in the late 1800's, you'll love this show… can't recommend it enough. Pretty much watched it back to back and can't wait for season 2. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4604612/

  • Magic City S1 & S2 set in 50s Miami Florida pre-casinos starring our very own Jessica Marais from Packed to the Rafters.

Favourite reality tv viewing is Below Deck where cabin fever dominates the crew of luxury charter yachts for the fabulously wealthy set in Florida, Bahamas and the Mediterranean too.

  • Stranger Things are pretty good i would say. American Gods is just ok if you have nothing else to do. West World is definitely my favorite. Btw, don't watch OA on Netflix, it's terrible.

    • +1

Stranger things is ok. Nothing amazing but still a decent watch

      • Stranger Things has this Stephen King feeling which i personally like.
But season 2 is just not as good as season 1. But good thing they don't leave a very cringe ending in each season. So watching it by just a season alone is alright. Strongly recommend West World, i have watch season 1 when it came out, and it was awesome. Especially on the second watch. Haven't check the season 2 yet. But it's a HBO show(Game of Thrones), so expect to see a lot of violence and nudity. But besides these surface excitements, it is a show discuss about Artificial Intelligent and the idea of Human.

        • +1

I loved Westworld. The cinematography is awesome and the story is very enjoyable. S2 has an excellent ending. Go watch it now!

  • Patriot.

Apologies if it's already been mentioned. Highly recommended.

  • What about Star Trek: Discovery?

  • What about Star Trek: Discovery and Orville?

  • Ballers.

Similar to Entourage but based in the NFL world.

  • All my favourites have been listed (if you haven't already WATCH The Sopranos now - GOAT)

Here's a few that are great and not mentioned yet.

Rake - ex-addict legal eagle drama that at times is plain bonkers. Based (but they won't admit it) on a real barrister in Sydney. Awesome show.

Skins (UK) - Amazing UK teen drama. At times very dark, at other times just plain nuts.

Last Man on Earth - The funniest post apocalyptic comedy you'll see. A virus wipes out the Earth except for one guy. He's actually happy… until other survivors start showing up.

Nip/Tuck - Rich plastic surgeons get themselves into all sorts of weird situations and encounters living up the life in Floria.

  • Anyone enjoying "What we do in the shadows"

    • I enjoyed the 2014 film. Didn't know they have a series based on it. Hmm … could be worth checking out.

  • Billions
    The handmaid's tale
    Wentworth

  • +2

    ABC nightly news.

they show an episode every night. very formulaic i.e. same lay out every episode. the story does jump about a bit - I think I've missed to many episodes as the plot doesn't make sense sometimes . But thoroughly entertaining. Based on real events apparently.

    • Haven't kept up with it. Is there still a war going on involving America? And does that sporting team still win occasionally?

  • Drugs Inc on NetFlix isnt bad - its not a drama though, its real life…

    • ah documentary. looks interesting, although i try to avoid documentaries now since realising that they're scripted

  • Of course Breaking Bad but assume you've seen it if you're watching Saul….

    • yea. loved gus and his return in mandalorian!

  • Just saw there’s a Season 2 of Lost in Space on Netflix. Completely forgotten how season 1 ends so I dunno whether to watch it or rewatch some of season 1 first.

  • Does anyone know if Russian Doll is good?
