  • Stick to the tourist areas if you can afford them and don't wander around favelas / poor neighbourhoods (people who hype them up are either ill intended or clueless, looking for trouble).

Keep your belongings close to you at all times, don't use your phone in public, keep a hand on your wallet when walking in crowded places.

Rio and Sao Paulo are good, but the south of the country is the best region to visit IMO. The northeast has the best food.

    • I second to that with your tips to remain safe.
Northeast has good food and it is cheaper.
Sao Paulo is a bigger Jakarta but they have excellent restaurants.

      • SP isn't that chaotic. It has a pretty decent metro, quite a number of parks, and some very nice neighbourhoods (Vila Madalena). But yeah, it's not so special. Rio is much more fun as a city.

  • is this a two way deal?
Mutual exchange between Countries allowing more Brazilians in?
    Parabens!

No. The president of Brazil signed a bill to allow Aussies, Americans and Canadians to visit the country without a Visa to help the tourism.

Brazilians still need Visa to come to Australia or go to America or Canada.

    • No, actually this only benefits Australians. Brazil also opened for Americans, Canadians and Japanese passport holders.

Can I get an extra 10% i.e. 3 days through Shopback on this deal?

  • Im literally here at the moment and have been here multiple times before and love it. All the people say its unsafe but just the same as any other country in Asia in regards to safety. Rio is amazing and there are many great places to visit north and south of Brazil. The meat is to die for and Caipirinhas are great but death the next day. Probably avoid Sao Paulo as its a massive business city but the people their are still amazing and Brazil has some of the most welcoming people in the world. The bonus in Brazil there is not many Australians so it makes a nice destination to travel to. Please don't turn it into Bali though!!!

I don't think it can be said to exactly the same as any country in Asia. Violent crime is off the charts, but I've never encountered any in Brazil in my two trips there, and I took public transport, walked around Copacabana etc. Just have to keep your wits about you, observe your surroundings etc.

      • This assessment is about right.

Great. I hope to see similar arrangement with China.

I'm Brazilian, the Australian government maintains a web portal to help Australian who wants travels… with the newsletters and reports they publish about Brazil seem to me to reflect well the reality of what I as a Brazilian would advise some Australian

  • yes yes yes. thank you brazil

  • our passport now is a little stronger than new New Zealand which requires visa to south africa the last time i read. about time. we have the most expensive passport in the world

I bet a North Korean passport costs more. It requires loyalty to the party, a good reason to travel (holidays is not one), and leaving a family member behind just in case you get any ideas about fleeing the country.

    Finally, I can visit Guarapari

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guarapari

"Its beach is famous for the high natural radioactivity level of its sand."

It's natural, so it's good for you.

    I'm not surprised.

Brazil had been waiting for years for the Australian, Canadian, American and Japanese Govt to drop the requirement of a Visa for Brazilians to visit their country so the Brazilian Govt could reciprocate. But it was never going to happen.

So the decision to finally accept that wasn't going to happen and do it unilaterally is a great decision for Brazilian tourism.

  • Great, thank you for the post! I’m traveling to Brazil in October. One less thing to organize!

I am Brazilian, and can assure you guys will love to visit Brazil! :)

Would highly recommend Iguazu Falls (one of the Seven Wonders of Nature - https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attraction_Review-g303444-d31…).

Rio de Janeiro, of course, is a must-visit city. If you're into hiking (uphill) take a guided tour up to the Pedra da Gavea (Gavea Rock), roughly 800m above sea level but right by the sea also (https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attraction_Review-g303506-d59…), you can also Paraglide from Pedra Bonita (which is halfway to the top). Rio de Janeiro is also full of vivid local culture… soccer all day on the beach, go to Maracana to watch a soccer match, drink caipirinha/beer on the sand all day long dancing to some samba - yes, there are no restrictions or alcohol-free zones ;)

If you travel further North East, you could visit Lencois Maranhenses, this is heaven on Earth - https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attraction_Review-g671558-d11… - would recommend staying in Fortaleza (has more attractions on its surroundings) for this trip, or perhaps Sao Luis.

Amazonia, OF COURSE. Go to MANAUS, and from there you'll be able to take day trips to visit aboriginal communities, go fishing in the World's longest river, etc.

Last but not least, Fernando de Noronha. Apprently this is not really famous internationally, but is one of Brazil's best beaches - https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Tourism-g616328-Fernando_de_N… - 2h flight offshore from Fortaleza, UNESCO's World Heritage site. Perfect for Diving, snorkelling, relaxing…. pricy due to it's location etc, but worth the visit.

  • Is visa cheaper normally if you apply online? I always apply at the embassy when going to China. Is there a cheaper way to get a Chinese business visa?
