Upper Mustang, Nepal Driving Tour AU $2885 (8 % Discount) @ Itournepal

mustang@tiji

Featured in the book ‘1000 places to see before you die’, Upper Mustang in Nepal is the hidden treasure for adventurers. The kingdom that represented Tibet culturally and geographically stayed intact because of its political location in Nepal. The kingdom in the citadel of the Himalayas stayed intact until recently indifferent to strife in Tibet and Nepal. The land practiced earliest form of Tibetan Buddhism in its traditional Tibetan style monasteries and honey comb caves. Mustang is one of the greatest achievements in the study of Himalayan anthropology, history and culture.
Driving tour of Mustang is new driving adventure in the Himalayas of Nepal. With the extension of dirt road, tourists can explore the trans-Himalayan region of Nepal in shorter and more convenient way. The drive starts from the foothills of the Himalayas and traverse to the other side through the world’s deepest gorge wedged between two 8,000 m peaks; Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) and Annapurna I (8,091m). The drastic change of landscape, majestic snow peaks and the mystic land of Mustang makes the trip one of the fascinating driving tour in the Himalayas.

Tiji Festival - the mask dancing festival

In around May, Upper Mustang celebrates mystic mask dancing festival known as Tiji. The festival is about 400 years old and is the last surviving tradition in the Himalayas. The three days long festival commemorates the evil over human, birth of the good and transformation of the evil into Buddha’s realm.
Upper is the last enclave of medieval Tibet which is fast changing to haphazard development and modernization. Visit it before it loses its naturally sustaining medieval feel and the Tibetan Buddhist practices and culture enjoyed with freedom unlike Tibet.

@itournepal: Someone should sue the kingdom to change name.doesnt matter who made the name 1st.

Like wwf made the name before the world wildlife fund but still sued and made wrestling wwe. Unfair.

    • Yes, I think so.

  • There is a tour leaving for annual Tiji festival 2019 starting from 31 May - 2 June. The tour starts with arrival at Kathmandu on 24th May.

  • With respect, there is reference in this post to "…fast changing to haphazard development and modernization. Visit it before it loses its naturally sustaining medieval feel…"

What better way to do this than by a driving tour?? I recall reading recently that the new road has put the destinations under pressure to cope with the increased tourism numbers.

    Each to their own though.

Thanks for your concern. Really appreciate your care. We are not in favor of what is happening. But we can't stop or change what had happened, especially not as individual tour operator. So while the road increased mass tourism, the tours we are promoting is for those who appreciate local culture and the tradition. We definitely work with local teahoues / homestay and consume mostly local products. With knowledgeable guide, people will understand the real scenario of Mustang and the right actions to take. This is the only thing we can do at the moment to positively influence the mass tourism towards sustainable tourism.

What? Are you for real?Did you actually read the post? Where is a Mustang car ever mentioned?

    • Sorry I don't know who named the car as Mustang. Mustang is a lost Tibetan kingdom with proud history of over 1,000 years. The car company must be sued.
It is still good that people get to know where the name Mustang came from and it is not just the car.
