  • How long will it last this offer? I.having Spotify student now, it re verifies every year.
Can I subscribe now for 1 year?

    • here it says "Eligible students only. Annual verification required." So I would say that you can for 1 year and that it is similar to how Spotify student works.

As for how long the offer is available for, it would be until YouTube/Google pulls it I would say. The offer could be available forever but I am not 100% sure.

      • Annual verification required

Well, that's certainly not been the case with me haha. Didn't even sign up with a .edu email.

Most heavily populated part of India right now 😂

    • Worth noting that a VPN is only required to signup.

    • But this is legit

  • Doesn't seem that cheap. I pay $14.95 for a YouTube Premium family plan that includes Play Music

    • How? I assume this won't include Google Play Music with the YouTube premium sub?

Grandfathering pricing, back when it was called YouTube Red. The launch price was $9.99 Single and $14.99 Family. This included ad free YouTube and Google Play Music. Then the price went up to $11.99 and $17.99 to match Spotify and Apple Music pricing. And now The prices have gone up to $14.99 and $22.99 for YouTube Premium. Or still the $11.99 and $17.99 if you just want ad free YouTube music only. Basically it’s all confusing for the general user typical google and many names. But remember Google Play Music is included with any plan, it’s going to be axed soon, YouTube Music is its replacement.

        • Wow very confusing. I'm on the 17.99 red plus GPM plan…I hope nothing changes for us! Thanks for the explanation.

        • I've been trying to suss out the timeline for all this…

          YouTube Music Key launches

          2015
Google Play Music family plan launches in Australia for $17.99

          2016
YouTube Red launches in Australia with an introductory price of $9.99, but with no mention of a family plan

I can't see any reference to the family plan ever being $14.99 in Australia?

      • Google play music is nearly retired

        • They better not get rid of GPM. It's the only streaming service out there (I think) that will let me play songs from storage + stream in the one playlist.

Unless of course, they simply bring over all of GPM's features over into YouTube Music.

  • any requirements to join the site ? like being a student ?

    • +1

yes must be a student. Once you click link to YT page from Student edge you have to verify you are a student through SheerID

    • I don't think that there are any requirements for joining Student Edge but for the YouTube premium/music, you need a valid student ID - I would assume email.

Student subscription: Sign up for either a Music Premium or YouTube Premium membership as a student and get all the same benefits at a discounted rate. YouTube student memberships are only available to full-time students at higher education institutions in select countries, and eligibility will be verified by a third-party verification service. Yo I might hop on this. YouTube music recommendation algorithm is far better than any other streaming service.

  • Can't remember if I'm on a Russian or Indian YouTube Premium but for $2/month I get YouTube Premium which includes Google Play Music and YouTube Music. All of the recommendations/top charts are normal Australian stuff, not Bollywood or something.

Signed up immediately off a free trial so maybe that helped?

  • The normal free trial is enough to watch the new "Karate Kid". Is there anything else to watch on paid youtube?

    • Well, don't need to watch ads…
