Hard to pay the $6 difference when it goes down to $30 sometimes.

Hard to pay the $34 difference when it goes down to $2 :D

      • +4

Does that mean you won't be buying any engine oil for the rest of your life because there won't be a deal as cheap as that $2 deal again?

        • +5

I never said I won't be buying anymore engine oil, I just said it'll be hard.

        • +3

I rekon I've actually got enough 5w30 to last me until EV pricing breaks $35k.

  • +1

Does anyone know if the oil is suitable for petrol cx5 2013? Thank you. The manual isn't very clear.

Also, just wondering if it matters where you live? For example does warmer climate like Brisbane need different spec than tasmania?

    • 5w30 will be alright going into a Brisbane dry season.

    • SCA has a 'My Garage' option in which you may select your car and see all suitable service items. This'll let you know what oil is suitable. Don't forget to click 'see alternatives' or whatever to see more options from each producer.

I'm not sure that is reliable. I tried to purchase a light bulb that didn't fit.

Try this Castrol service, alternative you can also check Repco and sparebox services,

      https://www.castrol.com/en_au/australia/services/rego2oil.ht…

    • +3

Best way to confirm is to read your car's owner's manual and compare that to the spec sheet of this oil. Don't trust anyone else.

      • Does it matter the climate and which season it is in?

        • +1

Country to country yes, season to season, not really within Australia. That's to say the same car might have thinner oil specified for a country with freezing winters for example.
Just go with your owners manual recommendations

        • The owners manual will usually have a table that shows different temperatures and different oils. My car for example recommends 5W-30 for low temperatures and 10W-30 for high.

For your car - unless where you live freezes you want to go with the 5W-30.

    • For most petrol/diesel cars 5W30 is perfectly fine.

Some manufacturers needs oils to meet particular requirements which will be in your owners manual and the oil bottle will confirm.

For an NA Mazda engine I doubt the requirements would be too strict.

If you can get Shell helix or Helix ultra on sale, whilst more expensive it’s a much better oil. But if you’re doing oil changes frequently Castrol is fine.

      • Good to know, thank you!

    • overkill but yes. its been designed for eoro diesel engines with special oil filters. Normal oils blockup in these cars

      but yes, awesome oil

Should be good for most new 4 cyl petrol engines. But…

  • No $2 no deal.

  • Castrol Edge Engine Oil 5W-30 5 Litre, is this the same as VW long life? as dealer's use Castrol 5W-30 Long Life and is around $96 for 5 Litres
    Thanks!

Edge LL is a higher quality oil as it meets BMW, VW & Porsche OEM specs, where as this stuff doesn't

      • Not sure who down voted antik, but he is correct.

Castrol Edge Engine Oil 5W-30 only meets the 502/505 spec, not the higher grade, longer life 504/507 spec.

        • Correct - this oil is not 504/507, and it's hard to find specials on the higher spec oil!

          • @ymmf: Yeah, not large discounts unfortunately, but sometimes you can get them 25% off storewide type sales.

      • Thanks all for the info
        @antik @JB1 @ymmf cheers!

LL is mostly for if your car has DPF fitted otherwise it's pointless spending the extra pretty much

    • Is this oil not rated for BMW Longlife – 01 as stated in the ad? I'm confused

      • It's all in the detail and other posters are generalising.

BMW Longlife – 01 is not the same specification as VW LL which is VW 504/507 spec which is used in VW's variable service regime (up to 30,000km/2 year intervals) or where a DPF is fitted. VW502/505 is VW's fixed interval specification (15k/1yr).

    • The LL version is also on sale, i picked up 5L for $45.59

  • which (if any) of the meguiar's washes does everyone recommend? say for a 6 year old silver SUV that has been in the sun, neglected, but otherwise paint is in great condition. TIA

    • Probably Wash and Wax if you're the average person who won't be waxing and detailing much!

    • Im planning on using the Wash and wax once a month and gold class at other times. see how that goes.

Just to let people know that this oil has a lower specification, only API SL standard. That standard is 3 generations old (2004). The new standard is SN which came out in 2010.

Guys avoid this oil like the plague. Castrol edge "professional" is only available at your VW dealer. Dont pour this crap. This is not the same oil its a much inferior one. Cheers

    • yummy Kool Aid?

    • I use this in our skodas (VW engined) as it is approved by VW. In what ways is it inferior to "professional" that VW dealers use?

There's nothing wrong with this oil if your engine only requires a VW502/505 spec oil. I've used it for years in my 1.8tsi and have 190,000km with no abnormal oil usage or noticeable engine wear.

The retail version of VW504/507 is Castrol Edge 5w-30 LL

  • -2

Low quality oil impersonating a high end oil. $35 should be the normal price.

    • -4

I totally agree with you. @bazzato Vw, audi, skoda do not use this supermarket oil when they roll off the shelfs. If u buy from dealer they sell an oil can with a vw logo. It contains pro grade edge stuff which is patended between vdubs and castrol so not cheap. I know a reputed garage who uses magnetic on vdubs. It will run ok but overtime economy will get poor and start giving engine fault. If your car is old you could stick a nunlon 5w and give yourself a bargain be done with it.

      • +1

Ok, I didn't realise it had "pro grade edge stuff".

        • -5

Yes u can read about it here: https://www.sctruckspares.com.au/cc5/oils-lubricants/castrol…
Apparently they sell it in barrels for garages. Cheers.
Its not good of OP downvoting a comment just bcoz the comment is not favoring the sales of the product.

          • +1

@Raj2019: yes, so good for long drain intervals. which makes no sense when to keep warranty on these vehicles you have to change oil every 15,000klms or 12months. also says that the Professional is for vehicles that require the VW 504 specification. I cannot see the actual advantage over the Regular edge for vehicles that specify it and if you change your oil regularly.

            Also, i didn't downvote anyone
