      but they have quite a bit of fibre in them that slows down the release of sugar

      They make a good alternative to sugar in some instances. e.g I make overnight oats and use two pitted dates or prunes for the sweetness.
      Almond milk and Greek yoghurt, vanilla extract and a dash of cinnamon… tastes great the next day

      these are medjool dates, quite heavenly, 60 cals a pop, but obviously given by Allah nature in a fibre and nutrient rich package
