Should I go for it? How will I be able to dispose my current mattress?

    • +2

Dump it in the local pine tree plantation. That's what unfortunately seems to be the place for them where I live anyway.

    • +5

check with your local council. They can dispose it for you with a small fee.

You wouldn't regret after buying these. They are top quality and at this price, you can't go wrong. I bought 4 last year.

      • +4

I hope you didn't buy the 4th because the previous 3 broke somehow…

        • +1

The polite thing would be to hope he/she did need a 4th because of breaking the previous 3 last year - sounds like a good year!

        • +1

          previous 3 broke somehow

          ;)

        • haha, definately not. I replaced 3 of my old mattresses and 1 more for the spare room.

      • +1

I agree on both counts. in fact council is due to pick up old mattress/base today. If the old mattress is in great condition, you can donate it to the salvos too, but they are very fussy

      • +1

We put ours on Freecycle.com and it was picked up within the day (this only works if it's in decent shape, though).

      • I think they're top quality at this price point, and just as good as many $500-800 mattresses (especially the mattresses which all those generic mattress stores in homewares mega malls sell). But they're not as good as higher-end Sealys etc. These are perfect for a rental, but if you have bought a place and plan to keep a mattress for 20 years I would recommend investing.

    • +2

Currently sleeping on one of these, very reasonable for the price.

I booked a hard rubbish collection for my old mattress and they picked it up from outside a few days later (I put it out the night before).

    • +2

Gumtree. You'd be surprised how big the market for 2nd hand mattresses is. I put a couple on there for free, and people snapped them up quickly. Noting the demand, I put a third one up for $50, and it was gone within a few hours.

      • To be clear though, there's a big gumtree market for extremely cheap ($20-80) 2nd hand mattresses. Try selling a $1000 mattress for $200 and you'll struggle. I stick to aldi/zzz mattresses for this reason.

    • +1

      Just burn it?

Put it on Gumtree for free, someone will take it from you

Who's the OEM and why not buy direct (via AliExpress)?

Mattresses are the last bastion of Australian manufacture, sorry to see it go; and, sorry for the kids who won't have skill-building jobs.

    • +1

You been in many mattress manufacturing facilities? They are not exactly full of young Australians…

      • You been in many mattress manufacturing facilities?

No and I'd gladly have misconceptions corrected - care to share?

They are not exactly full of young Australians…

Who'd pay to train unskilled youth in a terminal industry?

    • Who's the OEM and why not buy direct (via AliExpress)?

Shipping such a heavy, bulky item like that all the way from China individually would surely make that infeasible? And imagine if there was an issue with it.

      • -2

I'm not suggesting Australia Post. You'd buy direct, wait a month and collect from wharf. Would half price entice?

        • +1

You'd buy direct, wait a month and collect from wharf. Would half price entice?

Mmm… personally… not really. I've had bulky items shipped from China via sea before, and there's quite a bit of back and forth involved with the bill of lading, import declaration, packing declarations, customs fees, etc.

For higher-value items I just go with a customs broker (for quite a fee). I found the hassle not worth it for cheaper items. And since I'd be the importer, I would have to handle my own warranty claim. It'd be even more hassle if it got damaged during shipping.

And to add to that, there's no way for me to know if the mattress is exactly the same as this, which has had plenty of feedback from the community. The $70-140 savings isn't really worth it to me for something that I'll be using for hopefully 10 years.

      • -1

Pretty sure these are main in Melbourne locally?

  • Does anyone recommend the 23cm thick mattress that this company make? I really want this one but it is just a bit too thick for my bed..

    • I got one of these in the last deal and it's great. It's extra firm though so at first it felt like sleeping on concrete until we put our mattress topper back on.

    • Does anyone recommend the 23cm thick mattress that this company make?

The extra-firm ones? I had the normal one but I decided to try the extra-firm one as I like my mattress firmer, so I sold mine to my friend and bought the extra-firm one. It is definitely much firmer, so make sure you don't mind an extra-firm mattress. I don't find it concrete-hard like addas though, I quite like it now, although if you sleep on your side a lot, a slightly softer one might be more comfy. You could just add a topper like what addas did, though.

    • Yes, Unfortunately code does not work.

This store is listed in the ebay discount Deal & discount now shown on linked eBay store site (wasn't showing when I ordered, but was applied).

Missed the last Deal… Was about to give up & wait for next Deal when I saw that comment!

  • +2

Anyone bought both the super firm and the medium-firm? Is it just the same springs but with a euro-top on the medium firm?

    • Also curious thanks

  • How are these compared to sealy?

    • +1

Mattress in a box = No side support. These cannot replace a "quality" mattress from store, but is great value for the price you pay!

I have their super/assured firm, still not as good support as my (10 years?) old branded mattress and you need a good mattress topper. So we are back in old one and this goes to guest bed :-)

I was very disappointed with their Red Label Mattress, but brother seems to be happy with Black Label one. Keep in mind that Black Label is too thick and consider getting in and out of bed with the extra height :-)

To be short, if you are young and healthy these are just fine!

      • +3

My husband and I are both in our 60's and had a $2000 mattress purchased 9 years ago. Now we have this one and both love it. I would have been willing to spend $3-5,000 and believe a mattress very important considering how much time you spend on it and that we both have back issues. I got so confused by all the hype and decided to try this one. Thirteen months on still happy and recommending it to everyone we know.

        • Finding a quality mattress is not easy and more money doesn't necessarily mean better too. Truth is most leading brands sell same mattress with small customisation at different prices!

"A $1000 mattress can be just as comfortable over its lifetime as one priced at $6000"
          https://www.choice.com.au/home-and-living/bedroom/mattresses…

The branded mattress I was referring to is Sleepmaker Duracoil Plus, and is heaps better than these :-)

I woke up with sore back (around shoulder blades) when sleeping on zzz Red Label Mattress. Ended up returning after trying for 2 weeks! I think perhaps because you sink into the bed and don't move much!

No side support = hard to sit, get on etc and you need to sleep towards centre!

However mattresses are highly subjective, I prefer something solid with soft mattress topper, which is breathable (pocket spring)

    • +1

They don't really compare to high-end sealys, but they do incredibly well given how little they cost. Perfect for a young person in a rental for a few years.

    • +2

I had two Sealys, both cost $2000 each with discount. Both lasted six years before becoming junk. I bought the black label ZZZ during an eBay sale a couple of months ago for $340 King. If it lasts six years it will be better value compared to Sealy. So far the ZZZ is good. I definitely noticed the lack of springs on the edges - especially the corners. Weirdly enough, I owned the Sleeping Duck (another bed in box brand - the top of the range one) and never noticed any corner or edge sagging. The Sleeping Duck quality is way better too. That said, I returned it and now have the ZZZ and will be keeping it.

  • +1

    The best mattress ever made

    • +1

I certainly like mine. Had for about a month now and I get the feeling it could last a good while.
Interesting to see in the comments that some argue against the soft sides. My wife FAR prefers them.
Others like the harder/sturdier edges. Seems a somewhat subjective matter.
I don't so much see it as a big deal but to each his own as they say!

    • I don't know about that but very very good.

  • Got the double from last deal got it delivered yesterday
It's going to be a week or two before I get a new bed frame/base

I'm going to keep it in the box until then does anybody know if I need to keep it up right or can I lay it down? Probably a dumb question but thought I would ask

    • +1

I was in same position, but Aldi had old frame on clearance, worth checking your local and asking them to call around

      • Thanks mate

    • +3

Maybe leave out of box for a week (if you have room - putting mine under existing frame)… needs to expand for at least a day before use & may need good airing to deal with any smell.

"Mattress will expand in minutes after unpacking and will be usable within 1 day. Please allow the mattress to expand for at least 24 hours before you sleep on it. Mattress may take up to 7 days to fully restore." Item Description on ebay

      • I should have a new base or frame hopefully in the next 10 days Just not an easy decision for me.

Yeah I read that on the website as well. it's just standing in the box right now in the corner of my empty room so I should probably just open it up and lay it on the ground to do its thing until I get my base/Frame.

        Appreciate the input :)

        • Just bought, so was thinking about that & reading comments.

    • +1

You can start using it? Just put it straight on the floor and (after giving it a day to expand) sleep on it. Lay down an old bedsheet on the floor first if you haven't steam cleaned the carpet in a while.

      • Yeah I think I might do that shortly. Not sure if I'll sleep on it yet but I'll prepare it. gonna spend a few hours deciding on a frame now

    • P.S. If you are in the market for a bed frame I recommend this Ikea option.

      • $109 for Queen frame is cheap.
But, 2 reviews said it broke soon after purchase. Most others weren't happy with it.

And 1 complained it doesn't come with slat base… Sold separately
        Slatted bed base

        • Yeah I looked at that and got scared off by the reviews

        • +1

TARVA takes the LURÖY Slatted bed base, Queen $60
So total of $169 - cheap!

        • +3

I must say, I've bought plenty of Ikea stuff that worked absolutely perfectly and have never left a review.

That listing only has 3 reviews and one of them is a 5-star one - they could have sold 10,000 of those bed frames and 9,998 buyers could be absolutely happy with it and we would never know because we only look at the 2 negative reviews.

          • +1

            @eug: Well 5 reviews (is very few), 3 x1 star, 1 x 2 star, 1 x 5 star.

As slat base is additional cost of $60, that is a possible issue, on top of pine frame breaking in 2 reviews.

            • @INFIDEL:

              Well 5 reviews (is very few), 3 x1 star, 1 x 2 star, 1 x 5 star.

Yeah, my point was that plenty of the Ikea items I've bought deserve a 5-star rating, I just never bothered to login and leave a review. So they could be thousands of people who are completely satisfied with that bed frame, but only the dissatisfied buyers took the effort to vent their frustration with a low review.

              • @eug: Yes, those dissatisfied are more likely to leave reviews.

But it is a cheap pine frame, which may not be up to the better Ikea standards. With knots, pine can easily fail.

I've found in the past, Ikea has different ranges with different standards. Bought a cheaper bookcase on sale, which didn't last long. Looking at their normal range, the difference in quality was noticeable.

        • +1

There is definitely a wide disparity in quality across the Ikea product range, with little indication of which products are high quality (except perhaps price), but I have slept on a super cheap Ikea pine frame for several years (with the luroy slat base) and have no complaints.

          • +1

            @josho9: Thanks for the recommendation.

The strength of the pine may vary, so check for irregularities like knots, preferably before taking it home.

            • @INFIDEL: For later reference, is this what knots look like?

              • +1

                @josho9: Good question.
Yes - attractive, but structurally weakens wood

I've seen cheap pine furniture spectacularly split / fracture at knots. Used to call it "shit pine".

My guess is that was why it is likely only some beds structurally failed. Impossible to say without seeing it.
Even something as simple as a child jumping on the bed above a knot could bring it down.

It may indicate low quality control & over-reliance on the customer to go to the effort to disassemble & return the product!

So best to avoid knots in timber if you want it to stay up.

  • Any recommendations for beds to go with this? King size.

    Thanks

    • See previous deals for suggestions there.

    • +2

Just keep in mind, according to their warranty conditions

if width of slats is less than 6cm, width of gaps between slats should not exceed 6cm. If width of slats is more than 6cm, width of gaps between slats can be more than 6cm but must be equal or less than the width of slats.

The warranty though is pretty full of get out clauses. Having said that, I bought a king at the beginning of this year and very happy with the purchase so far.

  • what!!!?
    i just bought one yesterday….
    anyway, they are good mattresses…

    • Obligatory "if they haven't shipped it cancel and re-order" comment

      • too bad,
        "A Delivery from Sydney Dispatch
is on its way to you "

        i am a day too early :(

  • +1

Just jumping on each time this deal comes up.

These mattresses I recommend to anyone. You will not be disappointed.

In terms of the "smell" you mileage may vary. Let it Air out for a few days, and you should be sweet.

  • +1

Well definitely looks well made and way cheaper than any IKEA matress. Good bang for the buck. Maybe I should get one for any stat overs.

  • Are these hot?

    • +2

Comment that these are hot in summer!

      • Yes hot selling.

  • +5

I have to throw in a dissenting voice. I got the Queen medium one in the last sale, based on recommendations here, so I've had it for about a month. I'm a side sleeper (in a fairly curled, half fetal position), and it's terrible on my upper back/neck.

The mattress is quite lumpy, as it contours around the springs - on mine it feels like the springs come up to the surface, rather than sitting under a layer of foam. It probably distributes weight more evenly for back sleepers, but on the side you can definitely feel the springs jabbing in in places.

I've ordered a memory foam mattress topper which will come this week, so hopefully that will do the trick, but I certainly couldn't recommend anyone get this as their main bed if they're a side sleeper. The topper is half the price of the mattress so still fairly cheap, but I'll have essentially no edge support once it arrives, and because the mattress is so thick a sheet won't be able to cover the topper and the mattress.

Do any other side sleepers have this issue?

PS. It's been on the floor the past month as I don't have a frame yet, though I don't think that would make much of a difference to the feeling on the top?

    • +1

We had the same experience and a decent quality memory foam topper did the trick for us.

    • +2

Experiencing the exact same thing as a side sleeper.

    • I'm a side sleeper who isn't sleeping well. Had overnight sleep study which showed no medical problem.
Ordered this medium-firm mattress hoping for improvement…

Only slept on a "bed in a box" once, while hiking in Tas 10 years ago - about the most comfy bed I've ever slept in. They'd imported a lot direct from China. So always wanted to buy one.
It definitely wasn't firm, & I had no problem sleeping. Rather, I didn't want to get out of bed!

I find my current mattress too hard. So hope this works out. An additional mattress topper is about half the price of the mattress.

Now unsure if made the right decision. Read the return policy, but seems not to apply to ebay store… eBay says 30d & buyer pays freight.

Anyone have experience with returning this mattress?

      • +1

Can you please give feedback later? I'm interested to to know if the sides provide support to sleep close to them? I'm also a side sleeper and not sure it'll support side sleeping.

        • What - you don't want to come over & try it?😀 (I'm also in Brissie)

          Arriving in a week.
Give me another week to try it out😉
Reminder set to post a review.
However mattresses are a subjective experience.

        • Initial comment - just unpacked.
          Will update in a week.

    • +3

I was concerned too when I got mine. I was surprised about those lumps and bumps and it felt cheap. It took me a while to adjust with back pain for about a month, but I’m all good now. I sleep on my side and stomach.

      • What lumps and bumps? Did they give you back pain or did you have a pre-existing back pain?

        • To me they’re more like divots in the mattress that are part of its design and not a fault.

They haven’t given me back pain. Sometime when people sleep on a new mattress it can take awhile to become comfortable sleeping on it or can cause body aches and pains. For me, I got a sore back from sleeping on a new mattress that lasted about four weeks. It’s not a fault with the mattress just a body adjusting. If your body doesn’t adjust after six weeks or so, then it means you’re sleeping on a mattress that’s not the right fit for you and your sleeping position.

I did not have a pre-existing back condition or pain. My theory is my spine had slowly adjusted to the gradual sagging of my Sealy mattress so when I got a new mattress my spine was all like, “What the hell?”

          • @Saver Scott: Lol - I remember having trouble getting out of my old Sealy (struggling by the time I got rid of it). Hadn't noticed it sagging so much in the middle over time. And was too tight to replace an expensive bed. (Honest, nothing to do with weight gain😉)

Been on good foam mattress on queen frame since (no sagging), upgrading (I hope) to this next week, as find it too firm.

Worrying the padding over the coils may be too thin on these, with recommendations to add toppers.

            Time & sleep will tell.

            • +1

@INFIDEL: You may be right to worry about padding. I went from the Sleeping Duck one which has a few layers of foam between you and the pocket springs, whereas this one has just one layer. I’m fine with it but you may not be. Good luck.

    • I sleep exactly as you described and have had no issues. I can feel the springs only when turning otherwise it is lovely and smooth.

  • Is it important these go on a proper frame with slats (despite the warranty) I have a ensemble base currently is all

  • +1

Purchased a few months back in a 20% off deal for a queen. Excellent value for money. Fast postage - Hunter Express actually did a great job and the driver brought it to our door (bucks the trend of their reviews). Very good mattress - we added a memory foam topper and it's very comfortable. You won't be disappointed.

  • Not sure whether to go for medium firm or super firm..

A sensible thing would be perhaps to buy medium firm and put on a firm memory foam topper later on if needed?

    • +3

Hmm… I think it might be better to get a firm mattress and add a medium-firm topper, rather than the other way round.
Putting a firm surface on a softer surface would make everything… less firm? And also very high. The medium-firm one is 34cm, the extra firm one is 23cm.

      • Thanks. Ordered a Super Firm in King size.

  • +1

Hello guys and gals. I pulled the trigger on the last sale and got a King Bed Euro top Pocket Spring Latex Chiropractic. It is medium firm I believe and I have only slept on it the last two nights. As I am not used to this mattress I have found it hard to get to sleep (I believe in a week it will be no issue) But I also feel that this mattress is decent as I wake up feeling great. I def recommend getting one
Hope this helps others who haven't pulled the trigger yet

  • +1

Great mattress for that price. Bought two in last deal.

  • Only King and Single is available. Queen is Out of Stock.

  • perfect timing. ordered a king. thanks.
