Great price for the RX580 8GB. I have one of these from a TechFast build I purchased a few months ago. Runs 1080p 60FPS at NO issues on Ultra settings, can run 1440p at 60FPS for some older titles at Medium settings. No issues for eSports titles at high settings.

Looking around on the TechFast eBay page, there's also some good deals on the Threadripper CPUs if you're into that kind of thing:

    • It arrived this afternoon. Via star-track.

But I was surprised that it only has a 6 pin power port. is it really enough??

      • Read the comments below. It is RX 580 2048SP. Seller has acknowledged the typo in listing for the model number. It seems like the seller wasn't aware that this batch is actually RX 580 2048SP. It is AMD's nasty rename trick. Basically, it is really just a RX570 (so 6 pin/150W max is allowed but no headroom for overclocking).

  • +1

This is actually RX 580 2048SP. It is essentially RX 570 (with 8GB RAM). It comes with a 6-pin power connector, which limits the max power draw to 150W. It's within the limit for RX 570, but obviously not enough to power a RX 580. I originally + voted this, but now I've revoked the vote. It's too much hassle for me to return it, but it is RX570 8GB basically.

These cards appear to be from China, given it is RX 580 2040SP.

TL;DR - This is RX570 8GB, but branded by AMD as RX580 in China.

    • Can you confirm this with a GPU-Z screenshot or something? The Biostar website shows that they have 2 versions of the RX 580 - one is the actual RX 580 with 2304 cuda cores (same description as the one posted by TechFast in the eBay listing)

The other version is the 2048 cuda core one, which is just a "slightly upgraded" RX 570

        There you go (GPU-Z screenshot):
        https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/25097/68810/biostarrx5…

I'm running stress test (FurMark) and the performance is at RX570 level (not surprising). Also, compared to Asus RX570 card (Strix), the temperature of this card is higher. Not happy with the 6-pin power connector either as that basically means very little headroom for overclocking.

Damn. Is this eligible for a refund?

          • +1

@monke: Well, seller did put AMD super 2304 Stream processors. GPU-z says 2048. So, that's false advertising (or maybe they just sent me the dodgy one and everyone else got the proper/real RX480).

I've sent an eBay message to the seller, asking for the return policy and whether they would pay for the return postage. While it is possible to go through PayPal return, registered post needs to be used (otherwise PayPal could come up with excuses).

        • Thanks for this - I have yet to test the one I bought (delivered to work but i haven't picked it up)

Will report back once I get my hands on mine and test it

    • Hi all,

This is a genuine error on my part. I listed the incorrect card.

We are of course offering a full refund including postage, in which case a reply paid satchel will be posted to the customer. Or a further $10 discount and the customer keep the card.

      Apologies to all.

      Luke

Maybe it unlocks into a RX 580 proper, if you have a good standing social credit score?

  • +1

Mine's at the post office waiting to be picked up. If it's the 2048SP model I'll be lodging a claim for a full refund and send it back as it's "not as advertised". :)

Netsurfer, is there a model written on the card at all? The Ebay listing says VA5805RV82 which according to the Biostar website does have 2304 SP's.

    • +1

Cracked my parcel open this morning, model on the card is VA5815RV82 which isn't the same one in the listing, and is the 2048SP version

      • Damn if mine's like that, I'll be sending it back even if I have to pay the postage. I have a 7970 and it wouldn't be worth the money to upgrade to what really is a 570.

Hopefully Luke pops in and explains why we were sent cards that didn't match the eBay listing. This could end up costing them a fair bit!

      • Another voice for getting the VA581. It is an upgrade over my 1050Ti, but I'm not sure if I actually need only a slight upgrade, particularly for the price I paid for my current card.

Looks like the item is under the eBay money back guarantee, so you'd be able to have them step in rather than fight the seller if they take too long.

        • It's a bit tricky technically. While the seller did post the item quickly, the item's official processing time was set to 10 days. You cannot ask eBay to step in now (due to the way the eBay system work). Anyway, it is best both parties reach an agreement, instead of eBay step in (which will drag on, even if eBay side with you eventually).

Also, not impressed with AMD for releasing RX580 2048SP. It has the exact same specs as RX570, runs like a RX570 and IS a RX570.

Really want to return it, but it's still a hassle.

    • Hi all,

      • Haven't RX 570 8gb been going for less than $160?

I don't think that $10 discount is enough.

        • It's not a RX 570 though. It is an RX 580, and was purchased by us as such along with the costing. Performance is not a consideration in this - the further partial refund is being offered on an already discounted product and is as much as we can possibly offer. The full refund is the best course for anyone for whom performance is an issue.

          • @luketechfast: As per netsurfer and the specs it seems like it is more of a mislabeled 570 (mislabeled by AMD).

It sounds like your supplier might have taken you for a bit of a ride if your cost price is equivalent to that of an RX 580.

I just thought that you'd be losing on two shipping costs per order for everyone that returns the item and it might be better for you if people keep them.

            • @KLF23: Appreciate the thought behind that. $10 is (roughly) the same as posting a prepaid satchel mate as postage was built in to the initial cost.

And yes, words may be had.

        • A quick search shows the 8GB models have usually come down around $200-220, with the absolute lowest I can find being $180 a month ago: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/441677

            • @KLF23: Ah, missed that. Now I'm not so sure about keeping the 580. On the other hand, it's in my hands and a far improvement over what I had, and I'm suspicious at best about Navi.

              • @Bonding0909: With the $10 discount offered, for the price of an RX 570 8GB I don't think it's unreasonable.

FTC Computers had that deal for the GTX 1060 6GB for $18X but the cards people got were definitely not brand new/may have been mined on - so you might have dodged a bullet.

      • Do we contact you via eBay to obtain the satchel?

        • Yes please.

      • TBH I'm flip-flopping on whether to keep or return mine.

On the one hand I was looking at a retail RX 570 4B for the same price, for the LAN PC it's going into; I'm ahead in regards to VRAM.

On the other hand, buying retail would have netted me a free game or two via AMD Rewards.

  • For those of you wishing to stick with this card but want to do something about the noise, try this - Set the core in Global WattMan to 950mV and 1000MHz flat.

You'll loose ~15-20% performance compared to default, but the card should remain cool and quiet under most circumstances.

There's one thing I don't understand if this listing was a typo, why has the exact same listing been put up again today without the correct model number this time?
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BIOSTAR-AMD-Radeon-RX-580-8GB-GD…
still lists the item as VA5805RV82 instead of VA5815RV82 and as taking 8 pins for power instead of 6 pins.

    • Hmmm… I don't know how to direct link Luke to confirm :(

    • +2

@luketechfast Care to comment on this?

      My limited understanding was:

      • TechFastAU didn't have VA5805RV82 in stock when I asked your team last Wednesday.
      • clintyip / OP purchased a system from TechFastAU before and that one did come with the correct model.
      • From what I can gathered, your supplier didn't let you know VA5815RV82 is actually RX580 2048SP/RX 570 (and may not even provided those at a cheaper price).

The main question is whether this new listing is correct and have the model people want (i.e. VA5805RV82).
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BIOSTAR-AMD-Radeon-RX-580-8GB-GD…

It seems like some people are still interested in a proper / real RX580 (i.e. with 2304 SP) at a slightly higher price.
