Borders... Still Closing down 70-90% off. Final Countdown! (VIC)

90

So borders has further reduced stuff at their closing stores which include:
Camberwell, Doncaster, South Wharf, Geelong, Highpoint and South Yarra

Until shut down? They've had reduced things for a while now so I doubt there's anything good left because they've either already sold it or moved it to another store. Apparently they are also selling fixtures and fittings. Getting pretty desperate for any kind of cash by the looks of it…

70-90% has to be pretty decent even with borders prices. Who knows you might happen to find something good.

    there's just rubbish left…

    • I agree. But still there could some good bargains left lying around :D.

I'm not sure if it applies to all borders but the my local one is selling even furniture and computers (used at the counter for transactions) for $200.

      • Highpoint? because what I last checked they had a sign up saying theya re selling the furniture.

      • For absolute fans or people who know absolute fans of Muhammad Ali and can get to Victoria, Camberwell.

There's a massive book of photos and articles etc following his history
Was $270 but now $90 or so.

Warning: it might be 3+ kilos in weight :P and the box looks crumpled a little.

    • agree.

Hah! The concept of a brick & mortar book store makes me laugh :) Go Amazon or Bookdepository!

why? what if you're about to board a lengthy plane journey and want something to read without waiting days for delivery or relying or worrying about your eReader being stolen

      • or if you want to go read a book without paying for it >_> (although I guess that's what the library is for, but they don't have any books I want!)

        • +2

At my local library you can request books/dvds/cds etc and they get them in for you. :)

I went to Borders the other day and for whatever I could find I could find them still cheaper on Amazon.co.uk with free shipping, not worth the time and parking fee to visit Borders

    • The shelves don't seem to be a great price at the moment, either :P

  • I got duped the other day… was waiting outside what used to be Angus and Robertson in Camberwell. There were signs all over the place saying all books $4.95. Got to the cash register and asked how long the sale was going for, then they said that they were actually 'Dirt Cheap Books', and not Angus and Robertson, despite still having all the A&R signs up.

Whilst there were a few bargains, most of it was rubbish.

    • i almost got duped there too, except all the books were rubbish…

it should be illegal to advertise that they are Angus and Robertson…

    • +5

should've taken the signs home with you. they don't belong to them so it's just trash

Don't know what Borders is waiting for. Even Borders.com.au is still keeping their prices high. Silly…

  • +2

Can't they just close those stores already and put them (and us) out of misery ;-)

I seriously think Borders should become a membership library considering you can read pretty much all the books you want without paying. Heck they even promote it by placing comfy couches for you to sit on :/.

    • Now that's a great idea. Always felt that they were way overpriced on the RRP for books but I always felt guilty sitting on the couch reading books for free and then walking out without paying a dime.

    • The few Borders i visit every now and then have gotten rid of the couches (and even wooden benches) for quite a while now.
I figured it was because of people using it as a library (guilty as charged myself! :p)

  • Quite a few 'self-help' books available in Adelaide yesterday but not much else. We will be left with only 1 book store in the mall soon, it's so sad, I love spending time in bookshops.

  • just got 14 books for 23 dollars on the weekend should have cost me over 200 i feel happy

    • From borders? if so, nice to see someone finally scored something decent from borders.

      • yea borders
do you also know when the highpoint shop will close?

  • I got some good stuff from camberwell last night!
