This sale is now over. Going of previous schedules the next one, if they cycle year on year, is late October. Otherwise in between we have some other cheap flight tips…
-Jetstar Friday Frenzy 12-8pm each Friday. Hawaii fares are a regular most weeks.
-The Price Beat Guarantee (against Tiger for domestic, and Malindo for Bali)
Click here to access the Price Beat
-Do note that I strongly advise taking advantage of the above price beat against Malindo for any Bali flights this year as they are expanding to SYD/BNE/ADL/BNE/PER, and have been giving out $200/$300 return fares. You then can price beat these with Jetstar for 10% off and fly the 787. use Google Flights to hunt out the cheap competitor fares, and set price alerts

    Does Jetstar price jack???

    • +5

      No.

The Cairns fare I was watching at $137 each way is now $137 and $0

      • It's good they don't price Jack but it does seem like tickets go up and down during the day/weeks. Bought a ticket recently for 690, it went up about 60 during the course of two hours.

Immediately after I bought my tickets, I went back to peek, oddly, price went down to 640 again. Then again this was multi trip on skyscanner, albeit with same the same airlines (jetstar, scoot)

Jetstar luggage prices do fluctuate though, not sure if it applies online. But have called them as online system was doin me a bamboozle. It was as if I called a betting site.

        • That's a known thing. Particularly with accommodation. With that, cookies/history tracking are also screwing us.

People are more inclined to pay more/less on certain days/times.

IE: Those thoughts of "Stuff this place, I'm booking a holiday" on Monday morning.

          • @Ulysses31: Yeah, I guess they don't need to price Jack for sales if they're doing it for every other reason haha.

I read a FAQ thing on Scotty's cheap flights and he said clearing cookies doesn't make one shred of difference- perhaps they've found ways to track outside of that too. I've used ddg browser and cleared cookies, prices were still the same. Though, granted I only fiddled around for an hour.

Please do tell us what you did though. Always good to hear both sides of the story.

      • Rocked up over an hour early for my flight
due to the passport system going down i wasn't able to get onto the flight , with multiple other people from the same flight told there's nothing that can be done
options were $4900 flight with Qantas or a $1100 flight with thai airways with a large stopover in Thailand
no refund on the extras or anything i added to my flight
jet star support were not even aware of the global outage

        • +1

          Travel insurance? Who's liable?

        • +6

wait are u saying u rocked up an hour before ur flight, an international flight
or 3 hours early (cause usually u need to be 2 hours early)

          • +1

@djones145: the electronic passport system was down nationwide yesterday.

I had delays returning through Bris Airport immigration yesterday morning.

        • +1

much depends on what 1 hr early means. If you meant 1hr before departure, then you only have yourself to blame.

          • @spuderump: 1 hour before check in

            • +20

@[Deactivated]: There's information missing here and you're telling half the story. There's no way you'd appear 3 hours before your flight, a system being down causes delays (and Jetstar has no idea about the fact that all of their flights are affected/delayed now?) and you miss your flight and no-one refunds you your money or anything else.

Nothing adds up about that whatsoever.

Just booked 2 adults & 2 Kids to Phuket next march for 9 days return for $958. ($239.50 each person)

Including bags for one adult (30KG) & Credit card fee.

    • Quick question regarding Club Jetstar.. Does each person need to be a Club Jetstar member? Or only 1 person in the booking can be a member?

      • +1

Only the passenger who books the flight needs to have Club Jetstar membership.

  • +10

Good prices for members. Fly to Bali for Valentine's day for $149.60 return. Take someone along for an extra $149.60 or if you are really tight, find someone there ;-)

    • How did u get that price, i just checked it around $320 with $0 return for feb 2020

      • I looked from PER.

        • Esshhh.. for a moment there i thought we are from the same city.
          Lol

    • Im seeing $179, Perth to Bali for Feb next year?

  • +2

Their use of Tokyo in their example got me all excited. Alas, no Melb to Tokyo flights :(

  • Slight increase in the Perth to Cairns price, compared to May last year when I went, fuel surcharge or just price increases overall??

NO JAPAN!!!???? This is NOT JETSTAR!

    • YES JAPAN!!! This is JETSTAR!
Gold Coast - Narita from $359rtn
      Cairns - Osaka / Narita from $319rtn

  • +1

The wording for this section is a bit confusing:

For your return flight, search for flights between 28 June to 31 July (Tokyo Narita and Osaka routes only), 6 October to 20 December 2019 and 7 January to 25 March 2020.

Does that mean that the $0 return fares for Tokyo Narita and Osaka routes are ONLY available between 28 June to 31 July? Or is that they are available throughout all 3 date ranges, but between 28 June to 31 July is exclusive to Tokyo Narita/Osaka and is not available for other routes?

    • +1

Only Gold Coast. If you set the origin to GC, you'll see the options.

    Just booked MEL - HNL 15th to 25th March, 2 adults & 2 kids, 40kg there, 80kg back $1215 all up. Crazy!

Love shopping at Ross! Generally buy kids clothes and runners several sizes ahead. We travel with two suitcases within suitcases going across. Also go to Costco and often end up spending up there too.

        • +1

There's a Ross in Hawaii? omg!

          • +1

@GirlFriday: Many of them. We hire a car whilst there and visit several of the ones further out to grab more bargains as the one in Waikiki is crazy busy.

            • +1

@carlenet: that's awesome. I avoided Hawaii because I thought it was a bit "USA-lite" and that I wouldn't get to visit my favourite shops. Good to know thank you!

            • +1

@carlenet: There's a Nordstrom rack in Waikiki now too, which is like Ross but with some better brands and more room to move around haha

              • +2

@meowmeowmeow: TJ Maxx is possibly similar to Nordstrom Rack then as they have a few more designer brands compared to Ross.

For those wondering, yes TJ Maxx is the same company as TK Maxx here in Australia just named differently in different parts of the world.

            • @carlenet: We've done that too but found most of the designer labels are in Waikiki only.

          • @GirlFriday:

There's a Ross in Hawaii? omg!

            This. :o

        • Is there any point in going to Hawaii Costco as opposed to Australian Costco? I’m about to go to Hawaii.

          • +1

@melbourne guy: We stay in a condo hence buy all our food from Costco. I bought my first Phillips Sonicare toothbrush set at Costco in HI and it was miles cheaper than here at the time, 8+ years ago now. Gift cards for various restaurants, tourist attractions, movies etc are much cheaper. We also pick up various vitamins, skin care, ointments etc there as it's cheaper than at home and/or iHerb. Swimwear is also cheaper, as is sunscreen, compared to here.

        • +1

Nordstrom rack was the best. Never went to Ross, definitely expensive. Check airbnb for a place. Definitely not a cheap holiday. Also if you plan any tours look online in advance.

    • +2

Hotels will cost a fair bit. That’s where it stings

    • What do you buy? I just spent 2hrs at Ala Moana shopping centre and found nothing!

Everything was about 10% more than Aussie prices, then add 30% for US conversion, then add tax, then add a tip.

      Am I missing something?

      • Go to the outlets and Ross. Better bargains.

        • Ok, Ross was better but basically the same as Paul's warehouse at home. All small runs of items, Small defects, Asian sizes etc. But cheers for the tip. I'll have a look in the Wakiki store today.

I think the Aussie dollar is too far gone for Hawaii. The cost of food and accommodation especially. Then you add tax and tips.

1 litre of milk or pack of chips is $3.89 US!

          • @tunzafun001: Yes the dollar is garbage, but it's also the timing of your trip. I've been when it's Labor Day & Black Friday sales - discounts on discounts! Hopefully you find better deals in NYC. Happy shopping & good luck!
P.s I have never tipped a retail person!

      • +3

Steer well clear of Ala Moana. Everything there is priced for the Japanese tourists. Waikele outlets are okay but my go to really is Ross & Costco. Shops in Waikiki, bar Ross, are overpriced too.

      • I hope that as a joke about the prices - no need to tip when you are shopping!

        • The store people hover around you in the stores, then when you pay at the counter they ask who "assisted" you. When you scan your card it asks for gratuities for the person who haunted you the whole time. So they do ask for tips at the shops.

P.S. I used the Citi locator for Citiplus card cash withdrawal. It says to use the target ATM in Alo Moana for no fee…. Charged me $6!

          • @tunzafun001: Wooow. That aspect was bad, when I was there 18 years ago. This is making me cringe.

      • +1

When you go to the outlets sign up for the premium outlets a few days before you leave (it's valid for 30 days). Then provide the voucher to the outlet and you will get a booklet for more discounts on top of what the store is offering. This applies for any of the premium outlets in USA, not just Waikele

Also if you're getting anything from Macy's show your Aussie passport at customer service and they will give you a voucher for 10% off

        • +1

Any links? I'm heading to NYC after this. I heard shopping is better than Hawaii.

          • +1

@tunzafun001: Century 21 in NYC is pretty good!

          • @tunzafun001: Woodbury Common Outlets outside of NYC is good. Picked up some super cheap North Face stuff there a few years back. I second that re Century 21 but it depends on what you're looking for. Kids stuff is much cheaper at Ross/TJMaxx.

          • @tunzafun001: https://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlet/woodbury-common

Check out Woodbury. It is huge and you would need a day to get through the stores. People brought suitcases which I initially thought was crazy but you can buy enough to fill a suitcase

Shopping is better in new York

  • I can't find any details on what's included in the birthday sale. Just says "birthday sale coming soon…"

    Any tips?

    • Hard refresh page or open in incognito. All the details are there.

      • I used the link in the OP's post. The screen does not look like the screenshot posted, it just says "birthday sale coming soon…". I hard refreshed, changed browsers and went incognito. Unless you are looking at a different page from https://www.jetstar.com/au/en/deals/birthday-sale ?

        • +1

Weird, definitely showing for me and not logged in or a Jetstar Club member.

          • @neil: Do note anyone can see the fares now, but to book today you need membership so can be valuable.

  • Bangkok for $289 return sounds tempting. Once you arrive take road trip to Pattaya :D

    • Wanna buy this, cannot find any dates?

      • +10

        try tinder instead.

    • I am sure you are going to Pattaya for Yoga lol

    • +1

Remember, man who walks sideway through airport door in Asia is surely going to bangkok

    • My tickets only ended up being $518 for 2 people including 15kg checked baggage there and 25kg back

with carry on baggage only it's $229 which is insane!! We plan to head to Pattaya to check it out too :D we've done everything we want to do in Phuket so don't really feel a need to go back, the proximity to Bangkok makes it appealing!

      • How did you get this price? I got $638 pp no checked baggage… $790 with checked baggage.

        • from where ?

          • @shadowangel: From melbourne, I booked the dates Feb 29th to March 10th and there was still plenty of flights for $229 (for jetstar club members of course)

        • Maybe you are from a different state or didn't select sale dates? Also I should have clarified that was for one bag to share (we've been to thailand many times and don't really need space for souvenirs etc)

Currently from Melbourne there is still $229 flights from:

          18th Feb - 25th feb

          20th feb - 27th feb

          11th feb - 22nd feb

          3rd March - 12th March

          Plenty left.

  • mine wont work now either says sale coming ,did a chat online with Jetstar they say no outage but there is

    • Mine went down twice during my booking. Second time I got the busy screen I then lost my cheaper fare, was only a difference of around $20 but was still annoying. Jetstar's website often has difficulty during sales.

  • working now

  • I dont have a jetstar club account, would someone be kind enough to help me check below flight:
I just want to confirm it is return for free before I purchase jetstar club membership, thank you all.

Gold coast to Tokyo around 18th Dec
Tokyo to Gold Coast around 8th Jan

    • 14th Nov - 11th Dec are the dates for free returns for your destination.

      • Can anyone check for me Sydney to Bangkok please? Thanks.

    • +1

Could take the chance & wait until after midnight - then membership not required. I've bought return free for my selected dates to Japan over a week after sale started in the past.

      • Thank you, Infidel.

        • Enjoy Japan - I always do 🏯

  • Thanks, what about coming back.
Can I book around 1st Jan for free returns flights?

    • +1

No, Dec 11th will be the last date for free returns. You pay for the outbound that again needs to be within the above dates.

  • Amazing. Was going to buy flights last night Melb to Queenstown in November (2 Adults, 1 Infant). Our 50$ gift card buggered up cos the session timed out so have to wait 24 hours before the gift card balance is available again (what a stupid system that is!). Now this sale has come up and the flights that was gonna be $1121 is now $757! To risk it and wait till 8.30pm when the gift card has balance again… or just buy now and take the $350 savings.

    • +6

No brainer, buy it now! If it had worked last night you'd be kicking yourself now; blessing in disguise hence don't look the gift horse/card, pun intended, in the mouth! ;)

      • I second that, buy now rather than wait. You may be able to use gift card later to add baggage, meals, etc.

        • +8

Win, win. Got on the live chat. They took off the preauth on the gift card. Worked again straight away. What a ripper for it not working last night! Thank you crappy gift card system :)

  • Booked flights to Melbourne for Presidents cup last week….God Damnit. lol. Would have saved $75.

    • Does your cc have price protection

  • Thanks Ops gonna book a few holidays thanks to this deal

  • Good ole Jetstar … I wonder if they have unbanned me from their Facebook page for asserting my negative experiences LOL
