I Need Cheap Haircut in Sydney CBD

I wouldn't mind walking from Central down to Circular Quay end.

I don't mind what race cuts my hair as long as it's good and below < $20.

Taroo cuts is getting expensive now.

last I went, asked for undercut and 2 lines, nuna wanted to charge me $5 for the lines; talked my way through it and no charge.

Don't want to negotiate all the time for a undercut disconnected line.

There is a thing in the head called brain. Let it not work overtime all the time.

        • -4

          I agree, let's ..

          • -1

@tempura: … find where is it? I know where mine is. Not sure about yours. Probably stuck in a place where sun never shines.

            • -5

@RSmith: Lol with a username like Smith, should have typed better English. I'll stop right there and won't mention anything about brain. Don't want to inflict further damage.

              • @tempura: Lol. A person who can't find a barber talking about brain. BTW, isn't tempura deep fried? I could make a reference to your brain as well…

                • -2

@RSmith: You're in the wrong forum if your small brain doesn't lead you to think on how to get a bargain on your haircut. Brain needs to think and analyse; which is better? which is ×bang for buck×? Your posts insinuate that you don't really think much.

                  • @tempura: I don't think about a thing as trivial as a haircut. Your post proves that you don't have the capacity to think for yourself and rely on the community to help you get a haircut.

                    • -3

                      @RSmith:

                      I don't think

I'll stop you right there before you humiliate yourself further. Believe me, i'm doing you a favour here :)

                      • @tempura: Thanks for the favour… If that's what you think you are doing.

  • +2

Do you the thing call Youtube? You can learn and do it yourself.
Might need to spend a little bit for investment, but it will save heaps of your $$ in future.

Also will save time for nuna negotiating with you, her life is tough enough.

Is that a Ronan Keating song?

        • Or Eminem. I got confused myself

        • I'm on a quiet intercity train and literally just lold after reading this.

          • @gezza90: did you say you're in quiet carriage and you lold ?

            • @tempura: yes I laughed out loud for a split second when I read, "Is that a Ronan Keating song".

  • +2

There's a couple of hairdressing schools that will do it for cheap or free. Or look on gumtree.

      • +2

I think there is one in Broadway?

        • -7

Have you tried it? Did you do 'crew cut' or fancy pancy 'undercut lines bla bla' ?

  • +3

Screw city's barber. Come down to Cabra, you can find cheap $10 hair cut.

      • +19

Oh sorry, I thought I was holding your hand…

  • There are a couple that I would walk past on George St, Haymarket area near the church. I haven't tried them myself so use at your own risk. You might get what you pay for.

      • Jack's Hairdressing does machine/scissor only (no blades) cuts for $12. You do get what you pay for though but perfect for a 'zero all over'..

      • +3

My son swears by BarberShop, next to Haymarket Pharmacy even though it is a 2 hour round trip for us to get a haircut there. He always asks for the Asian lady that works right in the back corner of the shop and has funny looking bleached hair. Mind you, the other people that work there seem to be very competent too. They do $15 hair cuts. StreetView: https://goo.gl/maps/9mdKW1YLoba4cR4r6

        • Aye I go to the same Asian lady in the right back corner as well. Would recommend her as well as everyone else. From experience, BarberShop is better than all of the other hairdressers along George Street, including Jack's Hairdressing and the one closer to Central near the line of phos. $1-2 extra but I think it's worth the premium.

With a vouch like that, seems legit

  • TAFE, your a student is either $5 or $7, for non students it's $10.
You can be studying anything anywhere, just so long as it's a nationally recognised educational institution, don't forget to bring a student ID card.
Oh almost forgot I think of you have a low income health care card you can also get the student rates.

I'm very happy with the haircuts I get at TAFE, it just takes a long time, you could be waiting up to 15min for your haircut and the haircut could take up to an hour.

    • -5

Last haircut they did in TAFE George St .. it took her (and she needed to call up sups assistance from barber faculty) approx. 2 hours all up; it was very tiring for her and very tiring for me.

BTW, which TAFE were you referring to? did you need to online book?

      • Adelaide TAFE….
No, I just had to phone up for a booking.

        • -1

A bit far from Sydney CBD, Wys .. but appreciate the input .. I'll see if the TAFE (in Sydney CBD) does one again.

          • +1

@tempura: Lol yeah that's what I meant, lookup TAFE in Sydney.
Savas gets his haircuts at TAFE too, he didn't mention anything negative about the haircut and he's in Sydney.

@tempura: The one near central station does hairdressing

            • -1

@Love a bargain: I have approached them yesterday and in final stage in comparing my short-list. I thank you for the input.

              • @tempura: I can't wait for the winner to be announced! Did any of them give you a way over the top price like tradies do when they don't want the job?

                • @Daabido: I don't deal with tradies so unfortunately I don't quite understand what you meant by
× way × over the top price. Apology can't be more helpful.

There's a place in the underground walkway in Henry Deane Plaza under Lee Street that charges $11 or $12 for a mens cut. It's not the one on street level.

    • -3

      Ausman Cuts ???

The friendly team at Ausman Cuts love to make you look slick and stylish in your lunch break! No need to make and appointment, just drop in for a great new look, a trim or color.

Sounds posh, bro … you sure this is the one $11 - $12 ?

      • +1

No, that one is in the plaza. This one is underground in the walkway from HDP underneath Lee St, George St and off to the Goods Line. Basically where Google Maps says Railway Square is.

        • +1

The one next to the escalators opposite the photo shop?

          • +1

@kerfuffle: I think that's the one. Sorry I don't pay much attention to the surrounding shops. I only ever go down there to get my haircut which is once every 3-4 months.

            • -4

@ldt: Did you ask for crew cut or style that others here called 'fancy' ?
The term 'undercut', 'disconnected line', 'surgical line', 'fade', 'tapered' seems to be fancy in this community.

              • @tempura: I just get a standard crew cut. You'd have to go and ask what they charge for anything more. I wouldn't have thought it would be much going on how cheap it is for a standard cut?

                • -1

@ldt: I'll figure out their phone number and give them a call and see if they know what I meant

          • -1

@kerfuffle: Do you know what they called? the shop i meant.

            • +1

              @tempura: Shiny Star Hairdressing

              • @porleng: Appreciate this; i will give them a call and if suited, will be shortlisted.

              • @porleng: They just increased their price from $10 to $12 now a couple of months back. It used to be the cheapest in the area at $10 in my knowledge unless there's any other.

"I don't mind what race cuts my hair as long as it's good and below < $20."

Do people actually have a problem with a particular race cutting their hair? - What a world we live in.

    • -8

Not the subject of the matter … I need a haircut, Ferg !

      • +38

Oh ok my bad - I just tend to go and get a haircut when I need a haircut, rather than need to discuss it on forums.

I think we really need to reign in these kind of threads on OzBargain. Maybe it is a controversial opinion, but come on people. We are literally talking about every day functions that surely do not need assistance from a wider community. We don't need topics like "How should I butter my bread" - "How long should my footsteps be when I walk" - Just figure it out.

        • -2

You and me .. we're 2 completely different breed.

          • +12

@tempura: Seems so - And that's what concerns me about the future of the human race.

            • -6

          • @tempura:

            completely different breed

and I presume completely different race too!

        • +14

How should I butter my bread

I was just about to post that very question.

I'm standing in the kitchen right now, knife in one hand, phone in the other, bread ready on the plate, butter dish out, and I find I'm in need of help from the ozb community in working out the best way to butter my bread.

I think my problem is that the butter is a little too hard. I can get the butter onto the blade satisfactorily, but when I try to apply the butter to the bread, the bread just tears.

Please help me, dear wise and knowledgeable ozb community!

        • +4

Agreed, too many posting here seem utterly helpless and unable to function without online assistance.

            • -1

@tempura: Passive-aggressive replies like this seem to be your forte. Perhaps work on your life skills instead?

              • -3

@[Deactivated]: How's your successful life been? I only take advice from successful person and with you being here in ozb, in the middle of the day, I'm not entirely convinced.

                  • @Daabido: Shown your age but yes no i don't follow.

                • +2

@tempura: I'm self-employed, and work and don't work when I like as long as the job gets done. As to how successful? I don't need to worry about spending more than 20 bucks on a haircut, that's for damn sure, nor do I need to ask advice on how to solve life's simple problems.

                  • @[Deactivated]: You should write an Autobiography; it'll sell well.

                    • +1

@tempura: Getting a haircut seems to be the least of your problems.

      • +2

Actually, OP, it should be the topic…why are you evening mentioning race at all?

        • -3

          Good evening to you too

          • @tempura: Evening = an act to even the imbalance of a particular situation.

            • @Taro Milk Tea: What to even(balance) here? am slightly confused of what it is expected of me.

    • Do people actually have a problem with a particular race cutting their hair? - What a world we live in.

      Yes and no:

No - we are all human

Yes - I once had a haircut in Korean barbershop, yuna asked me when was the last time I had a haircut. I gave my answer, then she told me to wash my hair first. I said after cut. She insisted I have to wash before cut…..Then I left the barbershop.

Went to Middle East barbershop - No issue, went inside, sit down, no questions asked. Great cut, happy customer, would come back again.

      • -1

Yes - I once had a haircut in Korean barbershop …..

        Hair salon

Barber shops generally have a different atmosphere from salons in that the waiting area and services are geared toward men’s tastes. Barber shops provide a much, much simpler menu of services, generally haircut, beard trim, shave, and an occasional shampoo. Most barber shops do not take appointments, though that varies. In our shop customers report that they would rather not have to make an appointment, just showing up and waiting for a little if necessary. Some women to come in for haircuts, but mostly they are simple men’s type cuts. Moms with their boys are frequent visitors, so the shop keeps a polite atmosphere with reasonable magazines for kids and moms. There are some female barbers, but mostly it is men who do the cuts
Salons do a wide variety of services with an extensive menu of chemical services as well as cutting hair. Appointments are generally necessary. A majority of salon workers are women as well as the clientele. Cosmetologists are very skilled with a wide variety of fashionable women’s hair styles. In most states in the United States there is a different license for cosmetology vs. barbering. In New Hampshire a cosmetologist is not licensed to do shaving whereas a barber is trained and licensed for shaving.

No wonder you had a difficult time with nuna, you went to hair salon instead of barbershop.

    • I find fresh off the boat chinese hairdressers don't know how to deal with my finer hair. It always comes out looking crap. Plenty of cheap hairdressers in hurstville but never could get a decent haircut. It's not their fault, just how it is.

      • Try St George Barber.. They seem to do a great job.
        Just ask for Ash

        • St George or George St barber? If it's the latter, is Ash the Asian lady with funny bleached looking hair❓

          • @tempura: No, i was respoding to @brad1-8tsi about Hurstville.

        • How much do they charge?

    • Yep. Look out for Japanese hairdressers. They are advertised as such and actively seeked out by many Japanese people, as well as other Asians. People will pay up to$300 just for a cut!

      • There was Japanese lady who do haircut for $10 in the CBD; this was like 2 years ago. The place was quite secluded, hidden. Sometimes can do home service for the same price. What a legend. Sadly she went back to Tokyo for good.

        true story.

  • +4

You might find you get what you pay for, especially with wanting a "fancy" cut. I have tried a few cheaper around me and end up going back to my old one as although a bit pricey, does a good job every time. Cheaper ones seem to specialise in the "normal" cuts, you want extra done, it's not unreasonable for them to charge extra.
