The 24 month offer has been put up before but this one is even better and less time with Vodafone as well.

The Samsung Nexus S is $29 pm with $15 handset repayments and 10% off your monthly access fee for the life of your contract on 12 and 24 month mobile and mobile broadband plans.
NRMA
RAC WA
Although Note it seemed to have worked last time even if you weren't a member
$29.0 X 0.9 = $26.10
$26.10 per month plus $15 monthly repayments, which brings it to
$26.10 X 12 = $313.20

$15.00 X 12 = $180.00

sub-Total is $493.20

Also I'll link to the vodafail site so that I don't get any negs about not warning you of a cr@ptastic network.
If you don't like the network, but want the phone my suggestion is sell/give the plan to someone for a reduced price like $19/15/10 and enjoy cheapo price phone.

Vodafail When whingepool wasn't enough

NOTE:
Moneyback Co -$74($84 if you have already paid the fees)
MOneyback Co is not compatible with this NRMA/RAC Offer

  • Good deal.

Should be able to get it in white.

Screen is Super LCD not as Good as Galaxy S, no micro SD, speaker isn't that good and IIRC it only records in 480p.

But it has a flash and is already on Gingerbread by default with over the air updates. Google will support this phone for ages to come with updates coming to it first.

I believe the screen is amoled

    • nah they only released amoled for the US, since australia doesn't have many android developers we don't get the same love :(

Although with custom ROM , 720p recording can be enabled. From what I have learnt Stock android doesn't support 720p since It means google has to pay for H.224 support

Super-LCD is not bad in itself since the HTC Desire HD also uses this same one and I find it not too different to S-amoled.

Albeit if you have anything better than a HTC desire, I'll give this a miss but if you are new to android or have older generation android phone, then it's a good deal

The Super LCD (i9023) is fairly good. Blacks aren't as as good, but it has better contrast and you can still (sort of) see the scree in direct sunlight. A few reviews have placed the Super LCD between Super AMOLED and Super AMOLED Plus screens (I personally don't have a Super AMOLED screen to compare with).

  • i love investigations like this good job.

i hate it when i already have a phone and can't take this deal up :(

moneyback doesnt work with nrma! it just gets cancelled if u try and combine the two.
REMEMBER. this phone is NOT an amoled screen. its s-lcd. and it doesnt have an sd card slot

  • It doesn't seems to me a good offer for me, i will go with the $45 infinity plan and $5 for the HTC desire HD for 24 months, in my experience they will allow you to get a new mobile in 17-18 months time if you argue the phone is not working proparly and some loyalty credit in the next plan as well, me and my friends used to do that and it worked out for us every time. We were using 3 before but now 3 and voda are same and 3 is merging to voda, so i think it will work out with them as well. MY wife iphone 4 we are paying only $29+$8 for the phone for 24 months, just do the maths…we sold her old 3GS after 17 months for $400..Now I am gonna get a new HTC desire HD in the infinite plan.

  • I am 6 months into my Vodafone contract with my Desire HD, and I have noticed a marked improvement in Vodas service. I mean they are still have some ways to go to be as good as my iphone 4 on Telstra. Come september I will be happy to renew with them with a iphone 5

    • I've noticed the same. Used to be very bad (practically unusable). Not to say it's good now (it's still leagues behind Telstra), but baby steps.

    • It'll never be as good as Next G.

      • But it will never be as expensive either :)

That said Next G speeds are awesome and worth it if you do actually need them

i've been on vodafail since august last year, when it was ok then dramatic drop in consistency,
signed up with the NRMA offer back then when it was 3 months free + the 10%,

since then, i've also received 3 months free on top for bad service and another 3 months free on top again because they said it would be fixed by april and now they are telling me july, so all up 9 months free

glad to say that its been vodafast recently and quite consistent

    • Hi,

Sorry, I don't know how to PM you, but how do you get the 3 months free? I'm with vodafail as well and my service especially 3G failing all the time. I want to cancel my contract but dunno how to do that. However, 3 months free will be nice if I can't get out from the contract earlier. Can you please let me know how you managed to get it? Thanks.

The Nexus s is quite a decent phone. I got one when it was $29 plan, just I need another number. I could have used my old 3gs but that would mean having to sign up to a byo plan which require 12 mth contract! WTF contract for BYO plans.
Thus i decided to sign a 24 mth contract and get a phone for free.

The nexus s has NFC which is quite a fun thing. just waiting for people to start developing interesting and useful stuff for it.

Why not just get it over 24 months?

    12 month option:
    (($29 * 0.9) + $15) = $41.10 per month

    24 month option:
    ($29 * 0.9) = $26.10 per month

    Arithmetic 101?

Sorry mate. No bargain this. Not negging… but nothing to look here either.

    • 26.10 X 24 = $626.4 Total Cost

      41.10 X 12 = $493.2 TOtal Cost

I think you misunderstood the reason of my post. You could infact sell this phone for the price of the Contract hence getting free vodafone for 12 months or do the reverse and subsidize the cost of the phone if you were planning the BYO route ie prepaid or cheap TPG/LC plans

      • -1

Oh well! If you are getting it just to sell the phone and pocket the money… suit yourself.

For the rest, who need a phone too - 24 months option is much better value as you get $180 worth of cap value per month for 24 months and don't have to pay $15 extra per month as handset repayment.

        BTW… cheapest Nexus S on ebay ~ $410.

        • thats from Hong Kong so only has 1 year seller warranty
          And it is $447

          Australian Stock is $650 delivered
          Ebay Search

Personally though I would want to keep an Android phone for more than a year specially given quad core smartphones will be turning up by the end of this year. Hence I would take the cheaper route.
Also I did mention the 24 month plan in the post but since someone had posted it already, I would assume people can decide which plan is better.

  • does anyone know why Vodafone has 2 different 12month $29 cap contracts from 2 different sites

http://shop.vodafone.com.au/mobile-details/Nexus-S <<<< this gives you $50 credit if you order online..

    http://store.vodafone.com.au/handset-nexus-s.aspx?company=AM…

    • The top link is for regular users
The one below is for AMSR/NRMA/RAC members but AFAIK they don't check or ring you for your member ID

      • you take your chacne on the member sites if you are not a member of the car clubs. My membership discount didnt even apply until like 3 bills down, i had to call them and give them my number. I guess you could make up a series of numbers anyway.

      • cool!
        thx!! i didnt know that
        i just rec'd my nexus s today..
its the normal 29cap for 24mths! fk!
but i get the $50 credit.. still ok i reckon

  • Its better to use the following link with moneybackco cashback of $84 with the $50 online discount whether if you use the NRMA link you cant get moneyback cashback

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/44549 (Buckscoop + NRMA discounts)

  • what if I want to port my number from three to vodaphone, do they still ask me for my autoclub number?

  • Great deal.

  • From the OP:
If you don't like the network, but want the phone my suggestion is sell/give the plan to someone for a reduced price like $19/15/10 and enjoy cheapo price phone.

Is it possible to transfer contracts? If not, then you are still the owner of the account and liable to pay. If they decide not to pay… there goes your cheap Nexus S, just saying!

    • I'm sure I have seen people selling mobile broadband plans on gumtree and whatnot. I would assume the same would apply to phones as well

    • I've never heard of being able to transfer mobile phone contracts to another name. That just means more work / credit checking / number porting for the provider. Why would they offer to do this for free? Nothing in it for them accept extra costs / work / risk.

Seriously mate!!! Either you must not be very good at reporting facts (how did your science experiments in school go? :P) or you need an eBay101.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/300553653262 [Aussie Stock $465 delivered]

There you go. I just saved you $185 on Aussie stock (delivered). Enjoy!

    • It's true I don't use ebay as much, specially for items with cost higher than $100. I prefer buying through a more trusted channel albeit who knows Vodafone may be sourcing from the same place.

      • That's alright, mate. I'm no expert either. Besides, we are all here to help each other get the most out of our hard earned money.

I only had problem with the exaggerated blanket statement (which was uninformed at best and deceptive at worst) that Nexus S (Aussie stock) could not be had for less than $650.

Keep up the good work and keep posting the deals. Have a good one.

This is a good phone for first time Android users. I got it when it first came out in Australia, under $29 cap + $15 repayment. Samsung Galaxy S is another good alternative, free on $29 cap now. The next wave of phones to hit Aussie shores will be dual cores. Samsung Galaxy S2 ($59 cap + $5 repayment) will be here next month but I think it too will be phased out with the introduction of quadcores next year. I look forward to having the S2 on $29 cap when my contract expires. LOL.

  • +1

    not a good deal.
I'd rather save the $15 a month and sign for 2 years instead.
    where's the deal?

    • like I have said before, the deal is you get the phone for near ebay price and 12 month vodafone contract included. If I were to try and keep up with the technology, then 1 year would be perfect time to upgrade your handset instead of 2 years later.
