An interesting deal for the people looking for buying Vodafone Nexus s $29 plan.

First of all we all know that the Nexus S is free on the $29 a month plan. $696 overall. Not a lot of calls or data though.

Vodafone is currently offering a $50 rebate on the phone (online only), so $646 overall or $26.91 a month.

Buckscoop (http://www.buckscoop.com.au/forums/showthread.php?t=28717) offers an $84 rebate, taking the overall price down to $562 overall or $23.42 a month.

Now if you are an NRMA member you can get another 10% discount (of the original $29 a month) taking it down to $492 over 24 months or $20.50 a month.

u can apply buckscoop and NRMA. They just cancel the buckscoop cashback! They have started doing it since december!

Even the nrma discount is hit and miss, applied for the htc legend with nrma discount inc 3 months free last year, only the first month was free and had to call them up to fix up the other 2 months. Then after a few months charged me the full price and didn't give me the 10% discount anymore. Have to call them up every month just to get the 10% discount now.

      Read about it here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1461043

      I wouldn't bother.

    • Indeed. Both Buckscoop and MoneyBackCo are offering the same cashback here (from dgmAustralia). They were working before (with the HTC Desire HD deal), but in December Vodafone started cancelling the commissions paid to Buckscoop/MoneyBackCo, if NRMA promotion was used.

So technically it is a no-deal — you can't do NRMA and Buckscoop/MoneyBackCo offer at the same time now.

Great phone, just a shame it's on Vodafone :(

    • But doesn't this phone have a number of problems?
Just read some reviews from people using this handset.

Happy to buy if the issues have been fixed.

      • not sure actually

can't get the cashback and nrma discount at the same time…

    MINIUMUM COMMITMENT = 24 MONTHS

    • But aren't most phone plans like 24 months if you want to avoid handset repayments?

you wont be able to get $50 bonus as well if you use the NRMA membership discount, i've been through this, :(

best i was able to do was $50 off from voda and $84 from buckscoop. brings it down to total cost of $562 for 24 months. which is $23.42 a month.

  • I have done this exact deal.

Only the Buckscoop discount can be applied when purchasing. Once it has been validated (or say wait till your first bill) call Vodafone and ask them why your NRMA membership discount didn't get applied.

Be friendly but firm and they happily apply it. Vodafone is keen to keep customers happy right now. They didn't even ask me my membership number. I was told the $50 rebate would be applied on the third and fourth bill.

To be fair, I haven't got the Buckscoop money in my account but it seems to be tracking fine.

    • I has one that tracked for 2.5 months then got cancelled. so never count it till you got it.

    Deal doesn't work as stated

    • Why not? I am basing what I have said on my experience. What are you basing yours on?

      • So its possible to get $50 and NRMA at the same time?

Coz the buckscoop/MBC wont work for the majority, hence a risky deal if you are counting on that to be a deal.

Almost like saying, go to table 18 in crown, i won $50 there last night.

        • From what I was told on the phone, you can get both at once. They said the $50 would be applied on my 3rd and 4th bill. I haven't got that yet, so I can only repeat what I was told would happen.

I think you need to wait till the buckscoop discount tracks before you complain about the NRMA discount. Might only be working because Vodafone is eager to please atm. Anyway, the NRMA discount is only $69.60 over two years, so the phone is still cheap without it if you do run into problems.

        • Prong - that maybe a bonus, but its not something people would be happy to base their decision on. Its been clearly stated that Vodafone do not consciously allow this.

        • @Prong — been told by? You might need to talk to their online marketing department rather than their support/sales guy.

What happened was that all the sales via Buckscoop/MoneyBackCo were actually tracking, but CANCELLED by the commission network (probably deliberately by Vodafone). I also have someone from Vodafone asking me to pull those NRMA offers down from OzBargain.

  • Told by the support person when I called. They seemed to know what they were talking about so I was happy enough. Obviously I will believe it when I actually see the money in my account / the discount off my bill :P

And I totally agree people need to make their own decision on what they are happy about. Just relating my experience for what it may be worth.
