  • Copied comment from another ATV 4K deal:
    I own the Apple TV HD (4th gen) and I agree (with getting the 4K model).
    I got it for under $170 so I’m happy, but noticed it can seem a bit laggier at times than the previous gen model (3rd gen) which has slow animations, but was smooth and never laggy.
    The Apple TV HD sometimes has moments when the ‘Wishlist’ takes a moment to appear, and there is a loading animation (circular animated icon) which takes up the screen and lags a bit sometimes when browsing through titles (movie info).
    Lagging has slightly improved with a recent tvOS update,
    but I also run it at 720p and rent in SD (cheaper prices).

    I’m sure most of you will expect blazing fast performance in full 1080p (or 4K), so I recommend spending the slight extra on the Apple TV 4K with its much more recent faster processor and longer product life / support (tvOS updates) for future use.
    (Even if you only need to use it in HD)

    • Anyone that rented in SD 6 years ago was bonkers. To do so today would be an abomination the likes of which I have never seen. We have moved on to not only 4K but nitpicking whether it’s Dolby Vision, HDR or HDR+.

      • Yeah I watch on an old Sony HD TV (40 inch I think). At the distance I sit I fail to see a clear difference between SD and 720p (which the ATV runs at).
        Had been watching DVD’s before moving onto streaming so I am quite happy with what I have.

      • I get where your coming from though.
        4K = 4x pixels of 1080p HD.
        1080p = ~4x the pixels of 480p SD.
        So I am watching 1/16 the resolution of 4K.
        Or how I would to put it:
        ~1/4 the resolution of 1080p HD.

    Thanks OP, was able to price match for the 64GB model, almost a 10% saving on the RRP, great bargain!
