Free Virgin Australia Lounge access for Qantas Gold and Platinum members

140

Not sure if this belongs here or on the forums,

Only between 26-05-2011 for 8 weeks until 22-07-2011, Qantas Gold and Platinum Frequent Flyer members traveling with Virgin (even with an economy ticket) can access their lounges at Melbourne and Sydney.

If you are a Qantas Gold or Platinum member but NOT flying with Virgin (i.e., don't have a Virgin ticket), they will give you a complimentary tour of the lounge,

The Melbourne lounge is new!

Good for regular Qantas passengers who might be tempted to try the new Virgin Australia but lack sufficient status under Virgin's Velocity rewards program to gain lounge access.

Mod: Removed freebie tag.

Sorry bro. Mouse slipped and I accidentally neg'd you comment. Can't retract or 'undo' it. No neg intended.

    • i'd say it is a smart marketing ploy…

if you are a Qantas Gold or Platinum member, you get complimentary Qantas Club lounge when you are on a Qantas Flight, so there is no incentive to switch to Virgin…

Now, if they fly Virgin, they still get to use a lounge, so they can compare it to the Qantas one…

I saw the new virgin one in an article yesterday, it doesn't look that different for the Qantas lounge, so unless the food & service are significantly better, they aren't going to get many people switching over… especially if they have accumulated lots of Qantas FF points…

  • I'm glad you put it in here. :) My partner has to fly weekly for his job & he could really make use of this.

  • lol trying to steal Qantas customers?

    • same as what the banks are doing now too…

This is NOT a freebie, requires paid membership…

      No it does not.

      Please learn to read.

yes it does… you need to pay to join to become a member.

Please learn to understand what you are reading.

You can get free qantas FF membership by signing up to Woolworths everyday rewards, or listing a foreign address.

As an ozbargain user you should know this.

    • It's only available to people who already have paid membership and status level. But for these people, there is no extra payment required.

      • Qantas Gold and Platinum are provided free by Qantas - no payment is required.

The most interesting is that you don't need to fly Virgin to visit the Virgin Lounge:

Even Qantas gold and platinums who are travelling with The Red Roo out of Melbourne will still be welcome to check out the lounge on a private escorted tour, Daley said!

NOTE: Qantas had only this month jacked up their point system to award more points to members - I am sure they were anticipating this!

You first need to join.. that costs money

Australian and New Zealand residents need to pay a once only joining fee of:
          Australian residents - A$82.50*
          New Zealand residents - NZ$50
          * Includes GST.

        • @ jv, no it doesn't, it's free: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/13199

Paying for QFF is soooo 2009!

        • Membership from Bronze to Platinum

You start out as a Bronze Frequent Flyer. The more you fly, the higher your status, from Silver through Gold to Platinum. Higher status brings extra benefits like more points when you fly, priority check-in and Qantas Club membership.

          http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/program/index

Thus with http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/13199, you get bronze. Not gold. To achieve gold, you would need to fly a bit. That's my interpretation anyway.

@neil of course you have to earn gold, I thought that was obvious just like any other frequent flyer program in the world. My linking of the old ozbargain post was to point out to jv that he was incorrect in saying that you have pay to join QFF, as it is free for ww everyday rewards members.

        • post was to point out to jv that he was incorrect in saying that you have pay to join QFF

          thanks ccrap…

i wasn't aware of the 'loophole' to avoid paying the fee…

  • DELETED: double post
