  Good price for a scroll saw.
  Thus is a good tool for involving kids in woodworking. It is comparatively safe, and they can cut out shapes etc.
  My kids used to cut out little men and dolls and decorate them. Buy a pack of extra blades too.

  Does this take the blades with pins, or clamp in the plain blades?

    considering this looks just like the Ryobi I got from Bunnings on sale recently it takes the t / pin style blades.

  Is this like a jigsaw, but not hand held?

  Considering most drills, saws, grinders are 500+ watts, is this maybe a bit low power?

    Gives you both hands to steer the cut more accurately.
    A scroll saw is much easier to use for finer work (like when cutting out letters/numbers in wood for instance).
