      I've never flown Fiji, so can't comment on whether they're good or not, but you have to transit in Fiji vs. Virgin/Qantas where you can fly direct to LA. If it's $815 vs. $963 on Virgin, I'd rather go with Virgin given the direct flight and earning Velocity points and credits, which are really useful if you fly on Virgin regularly.

      The last two times i've flown with Fiji airways, my departing flight got cancelled. The first time it was mechanical issues, the second time because they had a shortage of planes. Both times the airline was terrible at making alternative arrangements, providing any compensation, or even simply giving a sincere apology. When they get in the air, planes are generally old. I wouldn't fly with them again.

        Melb to NAN will be the A330, but Fiji airways are getting two A350s in late 2019 that will do a constant SYD-NAN-LAX (and vice versa) rotation. So people might get lucky on the NAN to LAX leg…
