Classic look with awesome functional technology, the DGTEC Retro Speaker features Bluetooth Wireless Technology as well as an auxiliary input, DAB/FM Radio and more, all wrapped up in a old school radio design.

Product Features:

Bluetooth wireless technology
Auxiliary input
DAB/FM Radio
LCD Digital display
Alarm clock
Integrated stereo speakers

I have no idea if this is better or worse than the current Aldi deal. This one has stereo speakers - I don't really get the point since they're right next to each other, but I figure more speaker area should equal better sound, in theory.
I can't find any extra specs (even how big it is), and the reviews on the BigW website are not glowing, but I can chalk that up to negative review bias.

I recently bought the $12 BigW one and found the sound quality to be lacking, unsurprisingly.

I would love to hear some feedback from people with any hands-on experience.

  • Retro DAB/Radio

Australia uses the DAB+ standard, DAB radios won't work here.

The box describes it as a DAB+ Radio. I guess that will save BigW the angst of dealing with the unreasonable customers who didn't read the descriptions as carefully as they shouldn't need to.

I actually states 'DAB + Radio', and the bottom of the box says 'DAB/FM Radio'.

          Same thing about Bluetooth.

A lot of these have very old bluetooth interfaces, so only comply with 1.0 or 2.1 or something.

Streaming audio over these ancient protocols runs a phone flat in no time.

Is this thing 4.0, 4.1 or at least 4.0? It may be 3.0, the promo photo shows 01-01-2016. I've never seen one of these units actually update their firmware, let alone a bluetooth version. They are mostly orphaned at the factory. And by gum, this one sure is ugly!
