Has a free VPN but it had rubbish speed when I tested it. However you do not need VPN for Usenet. Enable SSL if you don't want your ISP/RSP to see what you are downloading.

I have been using Newsdemon as a main for 2 years. Combined with Radarr/Sonarr my completion rates are well above 95%.

They have vacation leave too. So if you have another subscription you can purchase now and put on pause.

This is amazing! Been putting off as my Newshosting sub doesn't run out till Jan '20 but this will force my hand. Thanks!

It is a great feature and super clever for themselves and their new or existing customers. They other option is waiting to Black Friday sales but this is the best deals I've seen from them in years.

A bit confused as to which the better deal is

How does this compare to the ninja link which is renewable at the same cost every two years

This price at demon is only for two years and not necessarily renewable at the same price

Newsgroup Ninja (owned by Omicron) is being frowned upon at the moment.
The theory is that the largest wholesaler (Omicron) is attempting to put a bunch of retailers out of business by temporarily undercutting prices. There is a history of questionable practices by Omicron to grow their market share and this has set off alarm bells for a few people.

      See here: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7d/Usenet_P…

      • I believe it is important to support the independent Teir 1 providers too. A couple of years ago it I was very concerned but good to see new Teir 1 providers on the markets Usenet Express (DCMA), Usenet Farm (NTD) and Vipernews (NTD). The map is a little outdated. UE and UF used Abavia for older stuff but now its Highwinds.

      • So the Amazon model but just in one sector alone unlike Amazon doing it in significant numbers of sectors.

I was saddened to read that this mob have taken over Astraweb, which I used as a block account for the past 10 years or so.

    • Both Ninja and Demon are a Highwinds reseller. The NewsDemon 2 year plan is also recurring. Only the $2 plan is not. They are both the exact same. The only slight difference is the vaction leave Demon allow.

    I wish that $2 plan was re-occurring!

    • Good point, I might take the $2 deal and pause it. No big upfront payment.

      • I edited my OP.

        The $2 plan is non-reoccurring :(
It is effectively a $2 one month unlimited trial.

Are you sure? I just signed up for $2 plan and email states
"Period: Non Expiring Price: AUD 2.91."

          • @Quarn: I definitely can't confirm but it wouldn't be the first time they have said something is non-recurring but is recurring. Did you use PayPal as you can confirm recurring billing through their website. Unsure how to confirm with other payment options. Definitely if it ends up being monthly recurring.

            • @4agte: I've signed up for the $46 service now as well.
But Paypal doesn't show either of them as renewing.
Guess I wait to see if I get hit for $2 again next month.

    thanks
better than ninja (both service and in general)

    • even used their 'holiday' feature to delay it starting for another month while my current provider plan expires

  • Is it for new accounts only? How can I switch my account to use this new deal.

    • +1

reddit posts indicate just messaging them to apply it to existing account

      • Thanks! Raised support ticket with them.

  • Could anyone please give me/ PM me a link to a beginners guide on how to use this stuff
    Thanks in advance

      • How many more services do we need spend $$$.

Paid for newsdemon, now do I need to pay for indexer and downloader?

        • +1

Would like to know too :)

        • Downloaders are free - NZBGet or SABnzb
Indexers are free or paid. I use paid ones as give you more API requests per day. Integrate the API request for download managers like Radarr and Sonarr.
Black Friday is a great time to pick up extra paid indexers

          • @4agte: So a lot more expensive than traditional methods, higher learning curve.

            But heaps safer?

            • @docians: Learning curve to torrents is the same. It's just everybody is familiar using torrents.
Safer as in spying eyes is just one benefit. More secure, safer, faster downloads, no fakes, better scene releases, no need for seeds, better automation with download managers (Sonarr, Radarr, couchpotato, sickbeard). Automation is the biggest thing for me. Once I add a tv series or movie to Sonarr or Radarr I can sit back and it will grab the next release that fits my requirements.

          • @4agte: I've got nzbget but nothing comes up in any of my searches.

            Mp3's in particular

            • @[Deactivated]: Nzbget is a downloader. It's the equalivant of BitTorrent. I hope you are searching an indexer like NZBgeek or Drunken Slug (the equalivant of piratebay). Usenet is not great for music. There is a paid indexer from the creator behind headphones. I refuse to support him anymore. I paid him for a lifetime subscription and within 2 years he scrapped it. The indexer was solid when I did use it

              • +1

@4agte: I'll give nbzgeek a crack, thanks for rep

                • @[Deactivated]: Thanks 4agte
What are the advantages of the paid version of nzbgeek, as compared to the free version, thanks

                  • @docians: More API hits and download requests per day. If you are using (which I highly recommend) programs like Radarr and Sonarr they send API requests every 15 mins checking the RSS feed for the latest downloads on their wanted list. If not using automation than a free account maybe acceptable

                    • @4agte: don't know about that
anything I click on it says I need a VIP membership

I think a free signup lets you just window shop perhaps

I now have the weekend to figure out how to make everything talk together

  • I'm stuck between either the block or 2 year sub. Would be my first time using Usenet, but been Considering for a while. I just can't imagine I'll ever use more than 5 TB in 2 years…

  • The website only has a $40 for 18 months deal, I’m not seeing a 2 year plan.
