    Thanks OP, excellent deal!

  • recently jumped on this whole thing when the newsdemon.com offer was posted last month, is it wise to get more then one or should i just use newsdemon.com one i have, still new to all this :P

    • +6

Newsdemon and ninja are the same so you won't benefit from adding them side by side.

    • +1

Is you want a backup, it should be a block account. Pointless to have two unlimited accounts.

Personally I just snap up block special when ever they pop up (assuming they’re on seperate backbones.

Old as the Internet itself (and before the web)

          https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usenet

        • -1

This is asked and explained on every single Usenet deal. Try reading past comments on past deals, or google it?

        • +8

In the same way torrents are used to download Linux distros, Usenet is used for backups.

    • +2

you can cancel that and jump on this where newsdemon has price matched. - I believe this includes VPN also. Reddit post mentions this promo may end at any time. I have cancelled my previous newsdemon plan and jumped on this.

If you want a backup look at Usenet Express, Usenet Farm or Vipernews. Please note these are low retention independent providers though. That is, they are their own backbone and then use Highwinds for old stuff. Therefore no good for older stuff as Ninja is also Highwinds. Usenet Express and Vipernews are growing there retention but Usenet Farm looks like to be sticking to 75days.

  • Great post, thanks OP! Just to clarify current exchange rate makes this $69.04AUD (what I was just charged anyway)

  • It says 50 connections, does that mean I could share this account with a mate or 20 and be simultaneously downloading from different locations?

    • +2

      no

    • +2

Connections relates to speed. You would never need 50. I max out my internet with only 10. I use There is very few monthly subscription accounts you can share. Eweka, Usenet Farm, Sunny Usenet, Cheapnews and Vipernews allow this on selected plans. A lot of blocks do allow account sharing though.

      • Thank you for clarifying, I thought that might be the case but was hoping it wasn't. I use direct download for my stuff at the moment so wanted to share the account with mates if, like I suspect, I wouldn't use it much. Might opt for a block account.

  • +3

For those that prefer blocks there is News Demon's 5TB for $52.45

    • Is Demon comparable/better than Ninja?
Considering Demon 5TB non-expiry block as I am not a high usage user..

will Demon play nice with nzbgeek?
      sorry bit noob.

      • Provider has nothing to do with indexer regarding compatibility. So will be fine :)

    • I can't see how/why I could use more than 5TB in 2 years. Anything else I should consider when choosing between this block and their price match plan?

  • +1

So if already a customer, you get charged the US$46 bucks and the time gets added to your subscription?

    • If you are only a non-recurring subscription yes it would tack on but if you are on a recurring subscription I would probably contact Ninja and request them to switch your plan. I haven't used Ninja myself but have seen plenty of good examples of excellent support in the Reddit community

    • +1

I ended up with a renewal date of 11/2021 so it just added some kind of prorata. Nice deal!

  • +1

So looked on reddit thread and if still a customer then,
The time will be added to your account and you will switch to this 24 month plan instead.

  • -1

how is this different to torrenting?

    • +8

One uses BitTorrent, the other uses UseNet.

      • +6

To expand a little bit further. Torrents you are downloading from and relying on your peers. On Usenet you are downloading directly from a server and relying on takedowns not occurring.

  • Any recommendations for searching nzbs for free?

    • +3

      usenet-crawler works fine

      • Gonna have to try it. Every 6mths or so, I try for my block accounts. Find zero, searching with the classics.

  • Can we switch from this recent deal? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/452227

    • +2

Yes, reach out to their customer support and link them to the new deal and request you change your plan to it. They'll do the back end switch over and upon your next renewal, you'll be charged $46 for 24 months rather than the old deal plan.

    • +3

Log into your account, then click on the above link and the offer will come up with your payment details.
You will pay the $46 and it will be added onto your existing time and your plan will be switched to the Two years recurring.

      • +1

        Thanks

I've already paid the one year upfront I think

        • +3

Pay the $46 and you will have 3yrs.
That works out to US$2.11 a month.

      • +1

Nice, did this and looks like I got a couple of bonus months on top.

      • I just did this and Next Billing went from 2020 to 2024.

        • Same. Very happy they let existing user enjoy the offer

  • +1

Credit card as a payment only? No PayPal?

    • Yeah no paypal, he used to use paypal but they had disputes with him, so he stopped taking payment for about 3 months but no one lost access, he then setup a new payment system.

  • I currently on 30USD a yr with ninja, is it worth jumping on this deal?

    • Yep, I just did this too, if you aren't planning on leaving, its a good deal to stick around

  • Too bad this is the same backbone with thundernews, otherwise I might buy it

  • -4

Signed up last time, fairly useless service. Freely available torrents easily surpass what is available through newsgroup ninja. Unless I'm doing something wrong.

    • +2

      You're doing something wrong!!!

  • Alright, lets hope ninja doesn't go down as I'm now paid up until 2024

  • Is this VPN?

    • -1

      It’s UseNet.

  • Can some one please explain why and what I would need use this for ?
    I don’t understand it

    • +1

This is a UseNet provider. They provide access to UseNet.

      • What is the purpose of having it though?

        • +1

          To download from UseNet.

        • +1

I think I can help here, you can use it to download Linux ISOs from Usenet

  • Anyone used Newshosting & Newsgroup ninja as providers ?
Any comparison on the speeds /connections on Newsgroup ninja compared to Newshosting ?

    • +1

Both are Highwinds and using DE, NL and US servers. Both are DCMA and should delivery you the same speed.. Same same.

      • Thanks.
The backbone mindmap in an earlier thread was very useful.
Will prob sign up for this.
