nbn FTTP and HFC speeds are getting faster from 14 September 2025.

The old speeds will automatically change to the new nbn FTTP and HFC 500/50, 750/50 and 1000/100 speeds. Many ISPs have confirmed there is no extra cost.

nbn HFC 2000/100, FTTP 2000/200 and FTTP 2000/500 will be available to order on the same day from selected ISPs. Contact an ISP to change speed and make an appointment for the installation of a new 2.5GbE nbn NTD.

Speed notes.

  1. You may have to change ISP to get the speed you want.
  2. Download speed overhead allowance means a speedtest shows a faster download speed. For example, you can get 2113Mbps on the 2000Mbps plan.
  3. The maximum download speed on the 1000Mbps plan is 970Mbps even with the new 2.5GbE nbn NTD.
  4. Some ISPs are moving nbn FTTP and HFC customers from 100/40 to 500/50, 100/40 to 250/100 or keeping you on 100/40 until you contact your ISP and change to a faster speed plan.
  5. You may need a new router and new CAT6 RJ45 Ethernet cables to reach maximum speeds.
  6. nbn FTTP and HFC 12/1, 25/5, 25/10 and 50/20 speed plans don't get an automatic speed boost. Contact your ISP to change to a faster speed plan.
  7. nbn FTTN, FTTB and FTTC 12/1, 25/5, 25/10, 50/20, 100/20 and 100/40 speed plans are still available.

I tead this as free nbn

    • +24

      clearly.

    • +7

      As Teal'c says "in tead"

    • same, or I would not bother to come and read the post.

  • +49

Need to downgrade my 250 to 100mbps to save some bucks and get 500mbps upgrade free

    • Any update from more nbn from commbank deals?

      • More hasn't mentioned any new customer deals. More.

        • How do you find more for NBN? I've got the commbank offer if I want it, Aussie has been rock solid so am hesitant for everything to go to rubbish if I swap

          • +1

@Chillgoon: I don't use More. Aussie BB sell all of the nbn speed plans and More doesn't.

More is moving to the Aussie BB network sometime next year.

          • +1

@Chillgoon: More has been great for me for over two years. Rock solid, consistent speed. I have no regrets.

            • @Australianjim: Same with me. Bit disappointed that being on 1000 plan already all we get a small boost in upload speed.

          • @Chillgoon: I find it okay. I dont always get advertised speeds during peak.

          • @Chillgoon: I've had it for about 2 years.
I'm on 100mbit and only really get 50, but it's a solid 50 that never drops out.

For $52 a month, I don't really have a choice as any other provider is more cost for slower speed anyway.

Their support is basically nonexistent/horrific but I only needed it once which was to ask about pricing.

      • Yes, got it last month end of Aug that speeds are increasing from. Sept. They did not mention the date though but are increasing my 100/40 to 500/50

        • +2

They are also increasing 100/20 to 500/50, do you get a discount?

        • Isn’t 100/40 excluded from this speed boost?

          • +1

@capslock janitor: 100/40 is excluded by nbn. Some ISPs are moving nbn FTTP and HFC customers from 100/40 to 500/50.

            • +1

@Twix: Superloop aint doing this. Checked online and called them, it seems like I'll be churning away from them as they do NOT make it easy.
There is no reason why they can't 'flip a switch' at their end to migrate 100/40 to 500/50.

              • @dangerdanger: You can wait and change to 500/50 next week @ Superloop or change ISP for 500/50.

                • @Twix: That's what I'll do, but disappointing they wouldn't even budge to automatically move me over to 500/50.

              • @dangerdanger: Not entirely true - Im currently with superloop on the 100/40 plan (HFC), i got an email saying they are going to upgrade me to 250/100 next month.

                • @mrbondx3: Great for you. Nothing for me, not even that email. Even though my address will show I can sign up to >500/50, so it's not like Superloop can't give me those speeds

                  • @dangerdanger: I did give them a ring a couple days ago asking if i was eligible for the free upgrade and told them if i wasn't eligible then i was going to cancel my plan and change to a different provider. Try giving them another call to ask if your are eligible to get the free upgrade!!

                    • @mrbondx3: I posted elsewhere that I said what you also said - and they said Yep, that's what I should do. Awesome.

I think Superloop have sealed their fate in my books. I'm waiting to see what happens after Sept 14, then I'll churn away and make it my goal to spread the word. I doubt Superloop will care

              • @dangerdanger: Superloop chat person today confirmed I would automatically go from 100/40 to 500/50. Is it true? Who knows.

        • +1

Launtel aren't moving 100/40s across either FYI. New 500/50 rate is $3.50 per day.

      • Confirmed by one of their customer service reps a few weeks ago when I asked. They're getting the speed boost some time in September.

      • +3

I just renewed my yello with MORE.. $40 discount so I am going to be paying $64 a month for 500/50 for next 2 years.. fairly good deal

        • +3

How did u do it, ?

          • @Zeee: It's mostly if you have a CBA mortgage.

I'm paying $52 for 100mbit currently which will be 500mbit soon. I have 1 year left of the deal.

            • @wetsandwich: I have mortgage, 2 months left. Paying with mobile data plan, around 83…

              • +1

@Zeee: Well go to the More website and you can click a button to say you're with CBA and see what discount you can get. But with 2 months left if you aren't borrowing again you'd lose the discount after that anyway.

                • @wetsandwich: Was thinking to opt out and back in with the another code for another year or so

        • I have mortgage with Commbank, i got 3 years free NBN as part of the settlement, I picked $100 plan (100/20), so only pay $10 a month as max credit that deal allowed was up to $90, now got an email that it will be getting speed boost and will be 500/40 after september

      • +3

CommBank changed their More NBN Yello offers and they are a significant reduction in savings for most CommBank users unless you also recently got a loan with them.
I believe it will be awhile before they make any changes to the current deals (Deal changed July 2025) and you would be better off churning to another provider that has much better promo offers (e.g Southern Phone has 100/20 (Soon to be 500/50) for $65/month for 12 Months).

        • I have home loan commbank offer that is going to expire in 2 months, as well as mobile package

          • +1

@Zeee: You should have CommBank Yello Gold which gives you $30 off per month, just contact More NBN and add the code onto your account.
You can downgrade to 100/20 plan and it'll go up to 500/50 next week or if you stay on the 250 plan you will go up to 750/50 but either way the $30/month reduction should work on either.

For anyone on a lower tier CommBank Yello reward then it's better to churn to other providers in my opinion.

            • +1

@Dejy: But 2 months the package would expire no? I have to opt out and then come back to more fo4 another 12 months correct?

              • @Zeee: The new promo's are for 36 months (3 years), you can request they apply it after your current promo ends.

                • @Dejy: Sure thing ;)👍

                  • @Zeee: Actually Zeee, I've seen that you can apply the code yourself via the More NBN Portal. Maybe hold off till closer to the end date for your current promo which will be better than the new one and then apply it yourself just when it ends for the most savings.

                    • @Dejy: Previously u can never be able to apply through portal but on the main website. Let me check?

            • +1

@Dejy: You can add the code your self in the portal

    • +4

that's actually a pretty good idea. I might do the same.
currently with iinet and id save 5 bucks downgrading, but eh i'll wait for all this to kick in a shop around.

    • Yep I plan to do exactly this - my AP only does ~400-450 real world so apart from like the 1-2 wired things I have no reason for 750 down from my 250 free update!

    • +1

Need to downgrade my 250 to 100mbps to save some bucks

I downgraded 250 to 100 after the first month promo from AussieBB, save even more.

    • I did this about 5 months ago as our general usage on 500 and 250mbps plans want enough to justify the extra cost. Downgraded to 100mbps knowing that this free upgrade was coming anyway.

      • Many mentioned the isp would change the prices, they are greedy despite free nbn upgrades by nbn co

        • +1

My price is going to increase from $71 to $89 in about 1.5 months so I'm going to jump ship and find the cheapest 6 month 500mbps plan. Rinse and repeat.

    • Yeah, I’m on 250 and don’t even use that so an upgrade to 750 is no different than an upgrade to 500 for me.

  • +1

What's the best ongoing plan at least 500 without cgnat?

    • +4

      Leaptel $80.

      • +12

        for 12 months ($92.95/m ongoing).

    • +5

Neptune looks pretty good, would be moving to them if I wasn't getting grand-fathered with Exetel

      • +7

I’m with exetel. Worst ISP I’ve been with. So many drop outs, speed is average.

        Looking to change rn

        • +1

Is NBN ISP dependent? I thought speeds and outages are because of NBNCo while ISPs are just retailers. Correct me if I'm wrong.

          • +1

@cheapskate101: NBN is just the last (or first from the customers perspective) mile.

        • remember you need to give them a month's notice

        • +8

I'm with Exetel too, but they have been rock solid for me.

        • Try SuperLoop . They bought out MyRepublic when they left Australia. Service has improved for me since and their average speeds are good and their network is more stable too. They also sell mobile SIM only plans (Telstra network with eSIM support), which you can bundle for further a further discount each month.

A few months back I switch from my NBN 100/40 plan to 250/100 at no price change (no brainer). The uplink speed is what motivated the change, as 100/40 would get upgraded to 500/50.

          • @YupMan: The live chat said that they will move 100/40 to 250/100 but couldn't really confirm it. They said it would be communicated closer to the date.

            • @tukanglistrik: @tukanglistrik I had changed my plan through my account portal…took 48hrs to implement. My router speed test confirms the change went through. You may need to reboot your router when the change takes place, but in most cases it will automatically negotiate the change.

          • +1

@YupMan: As per above : Superloop aint doing this. Checked online and called them, it seems like I'll be churning away from them as they do NOT make it easy. There is no reason why they can't 'flip a switch' at their end to migrate 100/40 to 500/50.

            • @dangerdanger: I think there might be some confusion in the chats about the NBN speed tier upgrades. The NBN wholesale upgrades are meant to officially start from the 14 September 2025. While NBNCo as the wholesaler may provision such speeds, they are not official speed tiers yet. Any plans at present would be offered at the discretion of the service provider.

Having mentioned this, it may be the case that the 250/100 plan is available to certain customers, plus I am on full Fibre NBN not HFC … this may also be a reason for lack of availability ….. do a qualification check for your address to see what comes up, link here https://www.superloop.com/internet/nbn . The 250/100 plan I previously mentioned is not a speed tier described in the NBN upgrade path, I upgraded my plan through my Superloop account dashboard. New NBN speed tiers are not currently available in my account dashboard.

              • @YupMan: This was via a chat AND a phone call to Superloop.
I was basically told to suck it up.
                1. Stay on 100/40
                2. Can I downgrade to 100/20, to then auto-upgrade to 500/50? No, I have to give them 1 month notice, cancel my account, then re-enrol at the new speed (whatever that will be).

Awesome. Easy choice for me to churn and not come back

My current address check shows (via Superloop's own pages) to ahve access to HFC up to 1,000/50 presently (before the NBN upgrade)… so it's not like they can't do it. They just won't

                • @dangerdanger: Oh well, can only get what is offered. Hope the new ISP works out well. It won't be long before the new NBN plans take effect.

            • @dangerdanger: See my comment above. And currently 100/40 and 250/100 have the same price so it makes sense for them to switch me to 250/100, which for me is more useful than 500/50.

Anyway I'll see what happen next week.

        • +1

I’m with Exetel as well, referred 5 of my mates so only paying $75 per month.

Speed is consistently at ~520mbps during various times of the day when I tested and only ever had a dropout due to planned outage at 12am. No complaints from any of my mates either.

Best thing is the hibernation mode which I’m using right now since I’m overseas for 3 weeks.

        • I was with exetel and I didn't have a problem with the service. However, recent customer service is so bad that they literally cost themselves three accounts just by being that terrible. It's like superloop bought them and put meth in the call centre's watercooler or something.

Gave my 30 days notice and signed up with Neptune for October. Will see how that goes.

      • I am on Neptune for a couple of months now. $85/m for 500/50. No intro fees, just standard rate. Always have the speed.

Only thing is they have limited POPs in a few capitals so slightly higher latency if not near one.

Also no VoIP if you care about that.

Small company but seem like decent no bs guys. Haven't had any issues in the time I've been there.

    • +2

Saw that Superloop is doing 1000/50 for $85 (for 6mths)

      • +6

I am with superloop. I have tried a few different providers. Superloop is the most reliable nbn provider in my area.

    • Superloop offered me $85 but for 12 months

      • +2

as existing customer? I tried no luck were happy to let me go

        • I did call them to do the 30 day cancellation. Called them up a few days before it and tried my luck which paid off.

    • +3

Carbon Comms is offering $80/m and even includes a static IPv4 address. Only downside I've seen is no IPv6 support and basically no self-help tools, but they pickup almost instantly when you call and respond to emails within a day.

    • +2

i signed up to exetel 500/50 for ongoing $80/mth knowing it is cgnat, but I wanted to test it anyway. There's been no changes from my previous 100/40 plan apart from it being cheaper and faster. It is just as stable, and gaming ping to singapore servers and aus servers remained the same and just as stable.

Curious as to why everyone gets put off by cgnat

      • +1

ask to get cgnat removed, i did

        • With IPv6 being available for years, I wonder what is holding up migration with the ISPs. It would negate the need for CGNAT. The world needs to mandate a deadline for migration. IPv6 has some improvements with regards to efficiency and security.

      • +5

I believe people don't want shared I.P addresses (with cgnat) to run services that are accessed remotely (e.g game servers, plex/emby/jellyfin servers, etc).

      • I'm on the same or similar plan with Exetel, we got a brand spanking new Router as well but still have massive issues with Latency under load being 750+. Our Ping during gaming jumps wildly from around 80 to 250MS on a good day. Some games seemed to connect with Singapore for whatever reason (which is why I noticed your post) and thought that might be the issue but I'm honestly at my wit's end trying to figure this out

        • +1

Some games seemed to connect with Singapore for whatever reason

That will often be a game queuing issue within the game servers themselves. Not the ISPs fault. You have to try and tweak the settings the best you can.

Some games also don't have Australian servers.

500/50 for $80 ongoing with static ip and no cgnat

Edit: oops, above poster shared the same!

    • -1

      Exetel $80 seems permanent

You have to call them up and opt out of CGNAT

      • -1

They are getting rid of cgnat opt-out

  • -1

    What is arctel doing?

    • +4

      Ask them

    • +3

      I don't know apart from 500/50 $50/month for 6 months @ Arctel.

      • +4

Requires $5/m for static IP to avoid cg Nat per their rep. Still a good deal for 6mo though.

    • +1

How is your connection with Arctel? I see on their website, the 500/50 plan is supposed to be provisioned on 1000/50, then migrated to 500/50 on 15/09. However I've been stuck on the actually 500/50 speeds - migrated early?

Edit: nvm, my Deco network/Galaxy S23 were being numpty's and connecting me to one of the mesh units further away in the house.. d'oh!

      • Haha I was doing something similar, I realised the wifi access point was maxed out for my phone. When you run the speed test from the Deco app I could see I was getting full speed… Well about 750-800Mbit.

  • +7

I doubt this affects opticomm customers?

    • Nothing official but rumours are they'll match NBN to keep service parity.

Their infrastructure definitely isn't as high apees friendly across their network though.

      • +1

Check Uniti and Occom. They have already matched their speeds with NBN :) Unsure about the others.

        • +1

          I can't see any 2000/500 plans…

    • Mate of mine is with Leaptel and recieved an email saying they had been upgraded.
