Anyone here used this personally? How strong is the base to hold this steady and the mount for the fan to go up and down?

    • would also like to know, not sure if anyone did purchased one of these tho.

    • +6

I tried one but left it on all night because I forgot to set the timer so I died.

      • +7

Cool story dude, so who inherited the fan then? And what's a lost soul like yours doing at OzB?

    • +1

The base is solid and screwed in - no problems moving it around. The fan does not move up and down, it's a fixed height.
The phone app is great and the fan runs silent on the lower settings. I mostly use mine on natural wind mode. The battery has lasted over 5 hours when i moved it to another room.
Mine was $80 from taobao - i first tried to get it from kogan but after 8 weeks and it still not shipping i cancelled it and only waited 3 weeks from taobao.
You might want to check the model though becuase this might the the first generation….mine is a second generation.

  • +13

Certainly the cheapest price you're likely to find anywhere. However, I'm a little bit concerned how usable it will be without a dedicated remote control. Having to open an app to turn it on/off or control the speed will be a bit tiresome.

    • Use Google Assistant.

      • +2

Yes, but challenging when you want to turn a fan off at 2am in the morning with a sleeping partner on one side.

        • +11

          Whisper to Miss Google then.

          • +22

@PinzVidz: Indeed, but then she'd bark back to you at full volume Switching Mijia smart fan to speed 35!

            • +6

@ash2000: google home app - you can set do not disturb mode for night - set your volume and stuff.

              • -2

@superm86: will donald trump order google to stop working with xiaomi?

            • +2

              @ash2000: Who? the sleeping partner?

          • +10

@PinzVidz: I like the idea of Whispering to Google to speed up or slow down blowing me at 2am.

            • @Rizzler: Careful, I replied to a blowing-type reference further down and the mods canned it. :(

        • +1

          What about the Mijia app.

    • One of the reviews above had the remote and one doesn't. From the description, it doesn't appear to come with the one sold from Kogan?

      • Yeah Kogan doesn't specify whether it comes with a remote or not. The review from Singapore definitely shows a remote.

        • +2

Looks like the newer "Mijia smart fan 2" comes with a remote (released about 6 months ago), however, the original production run does not.

Both fans are identical except for the inclusion of the remote.

I'm guessing unless the kogan product expressly states "remote" then this is likely the earlier model.

          • +2

@ash2000: Based on the videos, it looks like the first generation fan only has 1 button on the top while the second generation fan has 4.

            • @eswes: Oh… Nice spotting….even better.

      • Agreed, changing this in the middle of the night will be a nightmare without a remote.

    • +1

Who prefers one more remote to his house lol

Its a huge advantage to be able to handle stuff from your phone

      • Who prefers another app on his phone for doing simple things? "KISS" is the best principle in life!

    • For those with a Samsung just remap the Bixby button to open the app.
I have mine mapped to the LIFX app so I can jump straight to it and turn lights on/off

      • If you have a Huawei phone, assume the fetal position.

    • it also has a bluetooth remote control as well as hard buttons on the fan

  • Thanks OP, hope I can work it out to work from my Google Home

    • Hoping to make it work with Google Home as well.

  • -3

if you are a true bargainer, stick to the kmart 14 dollar fan

    • +2

I'd never go back to dc fans after buying both the kogan and kambrook Ac fans back in December. But a remote is a must with any fan.

      • +8

I'm guessing you meant you'd never go back to AC fans.

        • +2

          Exactly!

      • What was the biggest difference between AC and DC fans? Noise levels? Power?

        • +5

For me the ability to have it on a very low rotation speed that more approximates a natural breeze. And if course at low speed, virtually silent.

        • Power for me. We run one all night for white noise. Uses a lot less power. I posted INA thread somewhere but I think like 5 watts vs 30 watts or maybe more for the AC fan.

          • +1

            @tessel:

We run one all night for white noise.

Do you use this Xiaomi fan, or another DC fan? I'm curious how you find it for the purposes of white noise. My wife sleeps with a fan on for the same reason, and I've avoided buying a DC one because one of the big things they spruik is how quiet they are. Obviously not ideal when you want one for the noise more than the airflow

            • @geech: DC but not xiaomi. Works great. Setting of 3 out of 9 gives just enough noise, not too much but not quiet. My AC at similar speed used 30 watts vs 6 watts on the DC.

      • Did you mean to say,…I'd never go back to ac fans after buying both the kogan and kambrook Dc fans back in December?

        • +2

          Yes!

          • @ash2000: Oops. I made my comment before reading your earlier answer lower down the comments.

Thanks, will have to get a DC fan one day.

      • …after buying both the kogan and kambrook Ac DC fans…

How do they compare, which one is better?

        • x

        • +1

Both come out of the same factory, but I'd much prefer the kambrook and regret not buying two kambrooks.

The main reason being that the Kambrook remembers the last speed set, the Kogan does not. The Kogan starts at quite a high speed, which I usually have to wind back 15 speed settings before I get it where I want it.

The kogan also has a ghastly blue display that's extremely bright. I fixed this by applying 6 layers of car window tint (purchased from Ali) just to get it to a level where it wouldn't disturb sleep.

Let's hope the new production run of kogan fans fixes these issues.

          • @ash2000: this fan is neither the Kambrook or the Kogan though, it's the Xiaomi fan

            • @nikoris:

this fan is neither the Kambrook or the Kogan though, it's the Xiaomi fan

Yes, but my response was to a question by user "O O".

          • +2

@ash2000: You can turn off the blue light display by holding the power button on the fan for a few seconds

            • @MeesusEff: Ok…. But how do you see what speed its on after that?

              • +1

@ash2000: Oh I set my speed, then turn the display off and go to sleep. Old school style haha

      • I prefer my Xiaomi app. Already have the bulb and the led stripe anyways

    • Made my $15kmart fan smart by connecting it to a smart plug :p

      • +1

Did you also make it quiet and add more blades to it?

  • No mention on able to use Google Assistant. Can anyone confirm if it works with Google. Thanks.

    • it does not work with google assistant

  • How does it compare with the (popular on Ozb) Kogan-branded DC fan?

    • +2

This is a dwarf as compared to Kogan-branded DC fan.

      • +2

        Bad dwarf or Tyrion dwarf?

  • +1

Anyone able to confirm if this might be the 2nd gen model?

  • +6

DIY project: superglue this to Xiaomi robo vacuum and program it to follow me around the house (or follow the dog around. or run away from kids)

    • +1

make sure to remove the blade cage

      • +1

Missed out on this but it would have completed the unit

  • Is it the latest v2 version? Which comes with remote and I need that

    • +2

No one knows for absolute certainty, but given the low price and the fact it's not noted in the "what's in the box" section, I'd say V1 with a high degree of confidence.

  • +7

Everyone asking if this will work with Google Home, I can't see why not. It shows up in the list of available items to set up in Mi Home, I have full control of my Xiaomi lights and air purifiers via Google Home, same should apply to their fans.

    • +2

Don't use Google Home, but gave you an upvote for the helpful research.

  • +1

What is the noise level like on one of these compared to a Kmart $30 fan?

    • +1

      Low

  • +12

I have this fan and love it.
I use it with Google Assistant and sometimes with Mi Home to tweak the direction if I'm in bed.
I have A/C in my room but I like having air blowing on me and I think I am used to the noise of a fan helping me fall asleep.

    Anyways:

    1) Build quality is awesome and it looks schmick
    2) Very quiet compared to standard cheap AC fans, even on full speed.

I'll take a noise level reading tonight and update my post.

    • +4

I'll take a noise level reading tonight and update my post.

Well aren't you just a gift to the ozBargain community!
      nice one

    • Many thanks for the review! Always good to have impressions from an owner of the product. Is your fan the first or second generation?

    • Thanks mate, do you have a remote with your fan as well?

    • Thanks for the info. Can you please tell me what commands can you use with Google Assistant (i.e. on/off, speed and turn etc.)
      Thanks

    • so you have used it with GA but with an actual GH? Looks like it is bluetooth to me from the gearbest add, so not going to work with GH as it is not connected permenantly as far as i can see. Happy to be corrected that it is WIFI or Zigbee?

    • +3

      58db on full
      45db on 75%

      • Appreciate the effort!

  • +1

Definitely Gen 1. Gen 2 sells for $221 on banggood.

    • interesting that I found this, selling for $149.95 at Gearbest. It dooesn't say which generation but the CS claimed it includes the remote.

      • +5

        $149.95 USD -> $210 AUD

And the only shipping option is $248 AUD.

        • ah, sorry. didn't realise it's in usd

  • +4

I contacted their support and it is Gen 1. No remote. Still a good price.

    • +1

      Good one, thanks.

  • +5

Perfect for such hot weather in Melbourne now :D

  • I have one. Very good fan if you don't need a strong wind. you can use it to measure the room temperature and you can remotely turn it off in your children room, which i like it very much. The timer is one of the best function too.

    Smart is good!

    • Mine has battery. Another good feature, you can carry it around the house and place it anywhere you like.

    • How loud is it?

      • 3 and 4 are reasonably loud to me.

        1 and 2 are quiet.

        • i don't have noise level but in a quiet room you can hear the fan blowing with 3 and 4 but it doesn't bother you as at 4th level, the wind is not actually very strong.

  • Choose from 100 variable speeds

Usually you get some 3-5 speed buttons from a standard fan.

100 variable speed setting… Wow… This just blows my mind.

    • +4

      This just blows my mind
It's a fan, it blows everything.

    • +1

      Blown away too apparently

  • Can a physical remote be purchased and used with the fan? (If you can even purchase just the remote that is)

  • AC vs DC Fans

    Why choose DC?
The new technology in the motors means that DC fans are generally much quieter than AC motors.
DC fans use up to 70% less energy than an AC fan.
DC fans are generally faster to respond to the remote control, have more speed options and have the reverse function on the remote.
DC motors are often more compact and lighter, allowing for a sleeker motor design.

    • They talk about ceiling fans but I assume the same principles apply.
  • I bought 2 of the floor standing Kogan ones and they are great. Wondering if there is a wall mounted version of DC fans?

  • Thanks OP. Actually needed a new fan. Couldn't have seen this at a better time!

  • Just swipe your phone and feel the breeze!

I'm swiping my phone and can't feel any breeze

  • This one doesn't have the battery right?

  • For anyone considering, mine arrived today (love it), however mine came with a UK style plug. The cable can be swapped out with a normal two pin connector, but It's not stated on Kogan that I can see.
Quick and easy to set up in Xiaomi home, and shows up in Google home fine.
