  • That’s cheaper then the original price

Alternatively, the DSE/Kogan DC Premium DC Fan is still available for $89 + cost of delivery.

    • That’s not controlled via wifi?

      • +6

The Kogan does come with a remote control which means you can control the fan even when your mobile phone battery goes flat (after spending 30 minutes trying to pair your WiFi enabled light globe to your phone)

        • +1

The Xiaomi has a battery. The Kogan does not.

        • @travs:

This. I like the idea of being able to pick it up and use it anywhere. If I'm going to spend more than $20 on a pedestal fan, seems like a good feature to have.

        • takes you 30 mins to set up your light?

  • If you were wondering like I was……

"The advantages of a DC motor fan over an AC motor fan: In most cases, they use less energy – up to 70% less than a standard AC fan. They are generally extremely quiet. They will often have more speed options, the reverse function on the remote, and are generally faster to start, stop and change speed."

    • +8

AC ones already don't use much energy. Not a big saving. Nor do they take long to start or change speed. It's a matter of seconds.

Are the small gains worth 10X the cost is the question.

    • also, DC lets you run on batteries without an inverter and for longer…i think…its been a while since i did physics…did i just make that up?

  • +1

    Thanks OP, just bought one.

Paid AUD $184.33 on my Coles MC.

I love Xiaomi but…you spent ~$200 on a pedestal fan? I hope it blows your expectations away.

Lol yep, then add one of these to get the smart app control happening:

…or this with the Kogan fan:

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/359671

      • That just turns fan on. You can’t control speed. And won’t work with IR fans anyway as you need the it remote in same room

        • The RM Mini3 can send any commands the original remote can (speed, mode, oscillation etc) using the mobile app.

        • Don’t bother insulating, so you can leave it on flat out all night.

I swear i'm going to get me some cowpats and stick a Xiaomi label on them.
Plenty of suckers on here will buy them @ $170 a piece i'm sure.

    • I bet the app for those will be 'crappy'

Product returns might not be great either.

Jokes aside, will it come with an AU plug?

    • Careful these so called suckers are very sensitive. I await downvotes on your comment.

But your 100% right. I was thinking of taking a dump and engraving Xiaomi on there with a stick and posting on this site to see the upvotes, a price tag of only $30rrp code xiaomisucker take it down to discounted price of $19.99 :)

  • +2

How much is a decent reverse cycle AC? That will come in use in winter as well instead of spending so much money on this fan.

  • +7

So its claim to fame, is that it can be controlled wirelessly with your phone.

I just received my wireless switch, also Xiaomi from a gear best like store, that set me back $10

Add this to a cheap fan, as lost, says which doesnt use that much power (the savings with a DC fan s so marginal) $21

Yes I can't remotely change the speed, but hey why when i am not in the room, is this such a big deal worth the $150 extra

And people here complain about Apple pricing…… $179 for a fan that isnt even approved for use in Australia by the electrical authorities and what about claiming any impractical warranty. Checked postage back to China anyone?

    No Deal sorry….

totally agree. Smart fans for idiot. 3 months of summer, how many days out of 90 will require a fan? $2 per day, store it for a year, and there will be new tech. Buy a Dyson, at least it is innovative, great look and great local warranty and service. Inflated price. Sorry but I am not sorry.

      • +3

Why spend a fortune on Dyson when you just said you barely use one?

        • climate control at home so really barely use a fan - have the el Cheapo $10-$20 Kmart or supermarket fan on standby. For people who must buy a fan at $170, there are many other choices, but often Dyson can be claimed with credit card points.

    • Actually, it also has a built in 2800maH so it can be used cordless.

It seems like no one else has picked up on that fact?

      • Mentioned it a few months ago when the Kogan "Premium" was $119. Dunno if anyone was paying attention :) Like the ability to be able to select how far it oscillates between 30 and 120 degrees also.

    • $179 for a fan that isnt even approved for use in Australia by the electrical authorities

It doesn't have to approved by the electrical authorities (not that they actually test anything anyway). This is a personal import and legally allowed to connect to grid power and covered by insurance.

I am not a fan of Xiaomi's fan. Its price did not blown me over.

  • +7

I REALLY want to buy one but I don't know if I go to the beach enough to justify the cost

  • Get a Good fan and a Smart (WiFi) socket….Done !!!

    • Which fan?

      • Personal preference….

I went for 2 metal Vortex type fans (Moretti) from Bunning for about $80 each.
The cheap plastic one's only last a year or so for us… :(

2 x Smart (WiFi) socket and 1 x Sensor $100 ("You can do it.")
