  • Sharp price! Wish I hadn't bought last week!!

    • Where does “sharp price” come from as an expression? Just wondering, as I haven’t heard it in Australian English. Must come from somewhere else as I’ve seen it used here a few times?

      • I'm from New Zealand but I think it's a global expression.

  • Bargain for sure. I have a couple of these, the app is a confusing mess but they work really well. Get the pro if you need RF control.

  • +10

For those unaware, these now work directly with Google Home without any additional home automation software / bridges etc:

    • Thats awesome news. Thanks for mentioning it here. I bought one a year or so back.
so the same way I added Yeelight RGB strip light, I should be able to add this device to my phones google assistant?

      • +2

        Yep.

Use the IHC Broadlink app to add / setup device, then use Google Home app to configure.

        • Do you know if you can have your lights connected to both this, and the Xiaomi hub at the same time?

        • I bought one ages ago and was a bit wary of the permissions the app seemed to want from my phone. As such it's been sitting in a cupboard for a while. Might pull it out if others find it useful (and non tojan-y).

        • +1

          @spaceboy:

Not sure how your lights and hub connect (I assume over WiFi?), but this RM Mini3 just sends out IR commands like a normal tv remote, so doesn't really connect to anything as such.

        • @kirt: Understood, thanks for the reply

      • thanks this is helpful info, still figuring out what to do with 2 of these I bought an year ago..

    • oh wow thanks for mentioning that!! really helpful.

    • Thanks for the heads up! I never got it working with HomeBridge.

    • How about echo dot?

    • Have you actually tested it yet? Because I bought this few weeks ago and tried login through Google home and the device wasn't shown. Search on Google showed a lot of user has the issue and only the one with both RF and infrared support Google Home. Device was set up through IHC apps too. Apparently the only way to control through Google Home now is having Home assistant set up, which obviously involves extra cost.
same applies to the yeelight bulb, Google home login available but devices not shown, only certain devices supported but not the white yeelight bulb

      • Yep - been using it every day for the past 3 weeks with my IR tower fan.

        See below for see instructions:

      • +2

You need to setup scenes (then add device/action) in IHC, that's the only way Google Home can see them for some reason.

        • thanks neil, will try it again tonight then.

        • No need for scenes with the RM Mini3 - just add it as a device as per the video.

    • Would it work with Google Home mini?

      • Yep.

  • +2

I'm holding out for the Pro, RF should be handy (ceiling fans)

  • Using my one from a previous deal. These are great.

  • +4

very noob question by someone with limited work online time: could anyone pls summarise what can this device do?

    • +3

it is essentially a device to store your remote controls for tv, aircon etc. and you can use an app to control it via wifi.
it can also link to google home so you can ask google to turn tv or aircon on/off.
this one is only for IR remotes, such as tv and aircon, doesn't work for garage doors remotes which is RF.

      • Are you sure this links with Google Home? Reading through the specs I don't believe it does natively…

        • see kirt's comment above. it is a new feature apparently. i see it in the google home app. haven't tried it yet to confirm though.

        • Yep I've been using it the last few days. Very impressive

        • I set it up and connected to Google Home, still figuring out how to say the prompts.

I created scenes like - TV Off, TV On etc is it just a matter of then saying 'OK Google TV On'

        • +2

@hsevin: "Activate" is the keyword that I found to work the best. Not sure if there's any other prompts.

        • @cray Thanks, will play around tonight

        • @cray: "Turn on" also works for scenes with Google Home.

        • @particle: thanks for that but doesn't seem to work if I tried saying "turn off" "scene".

The way I am using mine is that I programed two different scenes, "aircon on" and "aircon off". So I'll say "activate aircon on/off" as required, not the best way but makes most sense to me.

        • @cray: For turning a device off, you could set up the device as a Lamp called "air con", which will make it automatically show up in Google Home with the ability to send it a "turn off" voice command.

You can then also have multiple scenes/lamps for the different "on" modes if you wish, to activate/turn on "low cooling mode" or "high heat mode" for example.

        • @cray: Yeah I've done the exact same here, although sometimes it ignores my "off" and then tries to run both "aircon on" "aircon off".

"Activate" works better than "start" though.

      • thanks, I have google home and a baby to keep my hands busy, so this will come very handy. buying now :)

      • Hi There

I am new to this product and just wanted to ask if line of sight is required to control TV/PVR devices or if this device can be placed anywhere in the room and TV can be still be controlled?

        • Line of sight is required but I have had it sitting behind a picture frame and it still was received. It transmits in every direction so you can get it bouncing from walls/mirrors but I wouldn't trust it

  • Integrates with Home Assistant. I have 3 of these, currently using them to control my TVs, aircon and speaker system.

    • are they easy to set up?

      • +3

        Yep, relatively straightforward.

        1) Get the Broadklink onto your local network using the e-control app
        2) Edit your configuration.yaml to include something like this:

        switch:
        - platform: broadlink
        host: <the.remote's.IP.address>
        mac: 'the:remote's:MAC:address’

        3) restart
        4) go to the services section of the home assistant UI and run the new service for learning codes. Every new code pops up as a persistent.notification and you can copy them into your configuration.yaml so it looks something like this:

        switch:
        - platform: broadlink
        host: <the.remote's.IP.address>
        mac: 'the:remote's:MAC:address’
        switches:
        projector:
        friendly_name: 'Big Screen’
        command_on: 'IR CODE'
        command_off: ‘IR CODE’

I set one up on the weekend and it took all of 20 minutes.

        • +1

Oh really? wow i should actually reconfigure my HASS. Im currently integrating these with HASS by running executing python scripts.

        • +1

thanks for the instructions.. will give it a try

        • @hsevin: surprised you need 3 I have one and it seems to hit everything in the room.

        • you mean't that for HemingWay2Go?
Ps; how do yo quote the user like you did, always wondered?

        • @kiwijunglist:
1 in the garage to hit my TVs out there
1 in the lounge room to hit TV and speakers
1 in the living room to hit the air conditioner

No line of sight between any of the locations unfortunately.

  • +1

Literally just found one of these while I was tidying up 5 minutes ago. Must have bought it ages ago, what can I actually do with it? :)

    • what? You tidy?

      • Very rarely

  • Does anyone know if the Pro version (RF) can penetrate through walls? I’m planning on putting in the bedroom and wonder if I can work on the garage door.

    • Mine does. Can control the ceiling fans from any room. Works on 4G when away from home too

      • Aren't ceiling fans use IR, interested if the Pro Version if it supports RF works to control Gate Openors

        • +1

          My ceiling fans are RF

        • I bought an rf pro version a few weeks ago to setup home assistant for my house. Tried setting up the roller door and gate opener on mine but had no luck as they use rolling code remotes which can't be programmed into this device

        • that no good, thanks for the heads up

  • +1

    No use, bought anyway.

    BLACKOZB - racist.

  • Is this better/worse than the Xioami IR whatever equivalent?

    • I bought the Xiaomi one and regret it. The app, while the same app as other Xiaomi home products like the robot vacuum, is not translated to English.
I tried my best using Google Translate and managed to set it up to turn on/off my air conditioner but can't for the life of me figure out why it always turns on to heater mode first. Plus it doesn't let me adjust the temperature. Must've set something up wrong but after a few nights of fiddling with the app I gave up.

I'm going to give this one a go and see if it's any better.

  • Just bought one as well. Looks to be very handy to turn TV/Air Con on/off remotely even when away from home.

  • Expired

  • Expired, damn was looking for another one of these at home for downstairs :( until next time.

  • +1

    Dang! I missed out :(

  • "coupon has exceeded the maximum limit for usage"

  • Got one. Been keen to give one of these a go.

  • all used up… any chance on more?

  • Could you program this to turn on multiple devices at once like activities on the Logitech remote control?

    • +1

Yes you set a 'scene' in the app where you can configure what to turn on etc.

Logitech had a bigger database of devices though which makes it superior. But I love that I can do almost everything even when the remote goes missing

      • Thanks. Would it still work with google home?

        • +1

All you need to say is ok google activate (scene)

Ie ok google activate aircon or activate netflix (turns ok tv, receiver n apple tv)

        • @aNoPHeLeS: thanks!

    • +1

Yes, just create a scene in the IHC app and you can put loads of actions to run concurrently. For example, I have Sleep Mode which closes the shutter and turns on the fan. You can also set pauses in between commands which is useful if say you want to set your shutter at a certain height.

  • Anyone had any luck teaching the RM Mini 3 Foxtel or Xbox One remote codes? I tried using the bridge method to teach the RM 3 here http://fun2code-blog.blogspot.com.au/2016/07/rm3-mini-workar… without success. I did get the RM3 to register and the codes were showing up from the remote but not actually working on the Xbox or Foxtel. I also tried teaching the RM3 using my old Samsung phone with the IR but again no luck…

I do have the scenes working and can turn on/off my TV and AC via voice commands to my Google Mini

  • +1

For a second thought this was some WiFi rice cooker.

  • I wonder if i can buy one of these and control it with this device.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-remote-controlled-power-ou…

I was going to buy a wifi power adapter but this would work out cheaper.

  • Anyone know if you can add a device by model number or something?
I got one yesterday and using ihc it appears that I need to record all my buttons for each device.

Hoping to get this integrated into HA so I can use Siri to switch between xbox, ps4, Kodi etc…

  • Dammit I missed out, any chance of another code?

  • My house just got broken into, and I lost a few computers. It's been such an inconvenience. So I now need to learn all about home security and recording systems, to put something in. Is this thing useful to integrate into those, or do I need to go down a whole other direction for security cameras and security sensor lights/sensor recording equipment? Sorry for the No0b qn.

  • Anyone got theirs delivered from this sale yet? I'm still waiting on mine.

It's only been 2 weeks. These sort of sites usually take a month, just gotta be patient.

Two things related to Google Home Assistant and Broadlink RM Mini 3:

    1. If you want to use google home with this device. Don't download the e-control app (i did this because it was in the instructions). You need to download the Intelligent Home Center (ihc) when you create an account with this app, this is the app that is integrated with google home assistant.

    2. What i found is that you have to use the key word 'activate' <scene name>. I prefer to say 'turn on' or 'do'. So what you can do is create a shortcut in google home app. 1. Open Google home App. 2. Touch the Hamburger (three lines) 3. More Settings 4. Shortcuts 5. Add a shortcut, example. When i Say.. "Turn On The Tv" Google Assistant should do "activate <scene name> (or Activate the TV)"

    • Shortcuts 5. Add a shortcut, example. When i Say.. "Turn On The Tv" Google Assistant should do "activate <scene name> (or Activate the TV)"

Yep, that's what I ended up doing. Works well. Essentially this is what using the RM Bridge and IFTTT in previous models did.

    • Does any of you feel that everytime the AC is turned on using Google Home the AC doesnt seem to work as well as when you manually turn on using the remote control? I experienced this last night and although it's blowing cold air it felt like it should be slightly colder. Upon turning it off and turning back on via remote it blows much colder air. We have the Daikin split system (i think it's the CORA range).

  • Mine arrived today. So if you’re waiting for yours, it shouldn’t be much longer.

    • Got mine today too.
