    Still not worth it.

  • +5

And a glass of Listerine to wash it down?

    • Skip the VB and drink the Listerine.

  • +16

Free beer is free beer. I'll drink to that!

    • +3

      That you Scomo?

      • Keeping the promise of free beer for all beer drinkers.

  • +2

thing must be bad they have to give it away

    • It must be the most bitter substance that I have ever had the misfortune of tasting.

      • +1

        Snowflake

      • You must never have drunk a hoppy craft beer.

  • +7

2nd Prize, 2 VBs; 3rd prize, 3 VBs, etc. etc. ad nauseum.

  • Hey, it's free - that's all I need to see!

  • +12

gee you lot are hard core… its free beer …cheers to that ….

    • +1

It won't be because racists aren't afraid of the pub

      • Take your virtue-signalling nonsense elsewhere; there's free beer on offer.

  • -1

The local I go to doesn't stock VB! :)

  • When Guinness had a similar promotion for St Patrick’s day, I found that if you cleared you cookies and applied again with different email the promotion would reset.

  • +8

I actually like VB. Good taste if you can get over its bogan rep.

    • +4

Scott Morrison is in office. The bogans are in power. Therefore this is a tory tipple.

      • +2

The welfare classes are more typically a Labor demographic. The bogans aren't in power, they're bitter.

        • Ok ok the posh bogans are in power then.

    • -4

the people who say negative things about VB are the same ones who are ashamed of being Australians, or white

      • +4

I love being white, and I hate VB.

      • +1

That might not be right all the time, but you're not far off. People love to have a reason to hate on others, and a social license to do so is given by the liberal so-called "elites" when it is directed toward anything distinctly/typically Anglo-Australian.

You can only mock culture if it's white/Anglo, and it's open season all day, every day.

        • +4

if you're male and white and Australian, it's basically completely fine to discriminate and be racist to you for all things including employment.

isn't it weird. I can post a comment on YouTube saying being a homosexual makes God cry. I get banned. I can be a Muslim and make a comment that says being gay makes the prophet cry. It's perfectly acceptable under "religious grounds"…. no ban.

I can say I hate black people. banned. I can say I hate white people and all whites should die, acceptable and often applauded.

right now in the UK the Muslims are protesting a public school for trying to teach about two mummies or daddies, Muslims dont like that, so who do the lefties support… it's either LGBT community or the muslims. head explosions incoming.

  • +2

What…so you just rock up… No email etc?

    • +2

That's what it appears like. I'm assuming the participating venues will know about this and monitor who receives their free beer.

      • +2

first i'm hearing of it…. and i'm working one of the venues that day.

Thanks OZBargain, will have more detail tomorrow.

        • Hi antikythera, how did you go? were there any updates regarding this promotion?

        • +1

Yes, I'm interested on how they're going to enforce the 1 per person rule (assuming a big pub with multiple bars..)

  • +4

    Looks like all ALH hotels

    • It does - seems all ALH Hotels near me (Woolworths owned/BWS/Dan Murphys)

    • The only 2 that are near me are both ALH hotels. So it would appear this way.

  • +10

if you are true f**king Aussie - that's what you eat for breakfast.

    • +3

      Hungry Russian for PM

  • +13

One free beer per venue I'm going on a pub crawl

  • +9

Worked out a 6 pub run for WA, gives you about 5-10 min at each pub. Just need deso driver: https://goo.gl/maps/VL5XJvn774KC3x2y6

  • +2

    Tastes better on tap…

  • +6

    VB is GOOD.

I mean, IPA's, Pale Ale's, Wee Heavy, Eisbock, Scotch Ale would all be my preference. But when I go for a lager, VB is where it's at.

  • +4

Don’t really go to pubs much, but a free beer. Well sir, I damn diddlidoo think I’ll have to indulge in one.

    • +1

      That you Flanders?

      • +1

        Well’a high diddlio fellow ozbargairino!

  • +8

Might invite some mates to catch up over a beer this Sunday, my shout this week, theirs next week.

  • +2

    You can get it shopping.
    You can get it Brodening.
You can see it given away free on OzBargain.
Matter of fact I've got it now.
A hard earned thirst needs a big cold beer.

    • Needs more upvotes

  • Yes! The penitentiary is putting on beers for the bois!

  • +1

Nobody likes Victorians, and now they're trying to bribe us with free beer.

  • +2

"Serving size determined by venue". So they'll probably serve up a pony (140mL): "DRINK IT AND GET OUT!".

    • +3

      "Yes sir!"
      <comes back 5min later with false moustache>
      "One free VB, noble innkeeper!"

      • Guy Incognito!

  • This is what I'd have for breakfast.

  • What if we go around town heading to all the pubs that serve these?
    Free beer haha
    Thanks for sharing

  • VB is great for slamming a whole bunch down.

  • +1

    Bogan swill

  • +1

I wouldn't drink this if they paid me.
    Just kidding, I'll take 2.

  • Whole thing reads like CUB is celebrating the death of Sunday Penalty rates and the ascention of Scott 'Miracle' Morrison.

    • Yet, like Domino's, nearly all the local cafes(and two pubs I know of) around us charge a Sunday surcharge and public holiday surcharge is 15%.
We'll see if that gets abolished at all…

  • do we just rock up the bartender ask for free vb at 2pm? what do we need to show

    • Probably just show them the website

  • Sweet my local around the corner is participating 🍺🍻👍

  • +2

If anyone gets the free VB after 2 PM, do let us know!

    • They just handed it over without asking any ID or sign in Hobart.

  • If you say "Strewth Mate" you get a 2nd can.

  • Its 2pm

  • +1

Let's make Australia a bitter place.

  • rather die of thirst

  • Claimed at my local pub. Had to show ID, they wrote my name down on a list and I had to sign it.

    • What size are they giving out?

      Schooners or Pints?

      • They're serving schooners to everyone. They're telling everyone about it. Although there's barely anyone here haha.

        • got one at gymea hotel. serve by friendy lady. no ask id or sign kind of bs

          • @shortgum: It might be because I look underaged despite being well over the drinking age. But there's definitely a list which everyone signs.

            • @DuckKnight: Claimed a schooner, just went up to the bar and asked for a free vb. No questions asked.

              Thanks for the refreshment!

  • VB should always be free.

  • +1

Thank you for an enjoyable afternoon. I had 3 schooners during the 2 hour promotion. There were very few people taking advantage of this promotion at each of the pubs we went to.

    • +1

There were no signs or indications that a promotion was happening at the pub I went to… although I heard at another they walked around giving out free tickets… lol
