So I just signed up and then cancelled straight away. The free membership will continue for 3 months.

Don't forget to cancel the membership here , can be done straight after signing up.

  • +3

I read "tagetted" in a Boston accent

  • Thanks, already subscribed so no go :(

    • You will get an extra three months for free:
We have added 3 month of Prime to your account. Your membership will continue until cancelled. You can adjust your membership settings in Your Account.

I signed up earlier this month and before accepting the offer my subscription ended early May 2020. Now my subscription ends August 2020.

  • Thanks

  • That's weird… it's applied 3 months of Prime based on Amazon.com… but if I go to Amazon.com.au (with the same account) my expiry date is different…

EDIT: Oh, I get it… didn't realise they are considered as completely separate entities even for Prime.

Make sure you check your date and cancel renewal… $120 USD applied at the 3month mark otherwise…

Weird, I got the 3 months, then got an email saying I got a year free?

    • +2

      Got the email too.

Link to the offer shows it is through certain US companies partnership.

Likely to be a long-shot but has anyone got one of these codes that they are not intending on using? I tried for the three months but it doesn't work for me

  • Tag, you're it!

  • Anyone having the issue where you put in the Amex card details but the "Start your prime membership" button is inactive? I understand this is a targeted offer so looks like I am not eligible but seems strange that so many others are getting it to work.

    • Yeah same here mate. Looks like I am ineligible too though i have US Amex cards. Ohh well…

  • So I just signed up for this but now I’m not sure what benefit I’ll get from it since it doesn’t appear that we get any of the delivery benefits being outside of the US.

I’ve already got an Amazon Au sub so already have Prime Video etc. Am I missing anything?

    • Shoot first, then ask questions later. lol.

You can ship from the US using a shipping forwarder, such as planet express or one of the many others.

With prime it's free to ship to the forwarder, so you only need to pay a single shipping fee, the one from the forwarder to Australia.

Also grants the ability to use US prime video with a VPN.

      • +1

It's usually free to ship domestic anyway so you're only getting the benefit of free 2 day or next day or whatever US Prime is these days

      • The forwarder charges a lot more to send to you than Amazon itself does.

Only use this if it's an item that will not ship to AU.

Do forwarders charge GST on the value of the goods when sending to AU?

        • Most don't ship to AU still.

Some forwarders charge GST, others don't.

          • -1

@NobalaKoba: Amazon US will ship to AU, mostly. Third party sellers won't.

            • +1

@lostn: I must just be unlucky then, everything I've checked in the past couple of months that's sold by Amazon directly doesn't ship to Australia.

              • @NobalaKoba: its not only you -amazon.au is effectively part of a hidden wall because amazon's all over the world now ship less than half what they used to here, and amazon.au doesn't sell those items either - effectively its a con job.

  • Seems like it only applies if you haven't used your free trial before. I've already had a free trial for Prime US. This message was displayed at the top of the screen:

This is an invitation only offer to new Prime members. To learn more about Prime membership and its benefits, please click here.

    • Yes that appears for everyone who clicks on the link but try adding an AmEx card and see if it works.

      • The button START YOUR PRIME MEMBERSHIP is greyed. Doesn't seem work :(.I've changed my default address to USA one. I have chosen the address IN US on the page. I also tried to enter another linked AMEX. All have failed to make the button active

  • Amazon is not like netflix , you cannot play most of the stuff with AU IP as they have regional restrictions. I think you need US VPN to be able view any content

    • That's right. Either a UK or United States VPN grants access to more content.

  • Anyone have an idea of when this would end? Seems my activate button has not greyed out so I am eligible but will be leaving for 6 weeks of holidays shortly.

  • ive been on prime before and just successfully subscribed for 3months

  • Thanks OP! Worked for me :)

  • Got it! Now what to use it for…

  • Dammit.. need it so badly.. going in a month.. My account get the same error "This is an invitation only offer to new Prime members. To learn more about Prime membership and its benefits, please click here." Probably had subscribed once a long time ago..

Created a new account.. same thing :(

    • Have you added an Amex card to your account first ?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/7300712/redir

      • Yep

        • Oh ok, maybe also try adding a US address and making it as your default.

          • @batrarobin: Still :(

          • @batrarobin: The same is here: The button START YOUR PRIME MEMBERSHIP is greyed. Doesn't seem work :(.I've changed my default address to USA one. I have chosen the address IN US on the page. I also tried to enter another linked AMEX. All have failed to make the button active

        • Same here… Grey button even with AMEX linked (and US address selected).

  • @OP you say you have cancelled straight away but retain benefits. Is that a subset of all Amazon Prime benefit? When I go to cancel they are warning I will be losing several things like free 2 or 1 day shipping, twitch prime, amazon music the list goes on.

    • Yes, you retain all those benefits. That warning is their way of spreading FUD.

    • You can cancel immediately and you will still get the benefits until the date that would have been your renewal date

  • N@@b question: This should give you access to Prime Video as well, yeah?

    • +1

      Yep.

    • +1

      Yes it does.

    • but you need VPN to play , usually Prime US account with Australian IP you can view content but when you go to play most content is region restrictions

  • I didn't get an email but was able to sign-up.
Canceled straight away after seeing this: "On August 22, 2019, you will be charged $119.00 for a year of Prime."

    • yeah everyone needs to do this because the year is a fake to just get charges.

  • Not working.

  • Will be in NY in about 2 months. Anything decent to order from Amazon US that I should get over there?

    • Yeah, a good OLED tv

  • Does US prime account benefit on free shipping to Australia?

    • Nope.

      • then whats the reason to join if you are not going to USA?

        • Prime Video

  • Links worked for me, both to join and cancel.

Paying for it after the 3 months does not seem to provide good value. AU amazon costs $59 per year and at least they ship here. Ok, you do get alot more video than amazon au but you have to use a VPN or DNS service like Getflix to spoof a US address. But if you are able to use VPN, you probably can find your way to other 'free' streaming / hosting services.

    • Amazon has now sent me a USD $10 e-voucher to use on Amazon US, conditional on signing in to Amazon prime mobile app.

  • Question: is a US Prime account seperate for Twitch Prime/loot?

  • Silly Question, if you already have Amazon AU prime, why would you want Amazon US prime?
Do they charge the $1 USD activation on your AMEX?

  • +1

awsome OP, GOT A YEAR FREE NOW , ALTHOUGH I WAS ALREADY PAYING FOR PRIME

    • check your dates..

    • +1

Yeah that email you received is a bit misleading, says 1 year but in the account it says 'till Aug'.

  • The button START YOUR PRIME MEMBERSHIP is greyed. Doesn't seem work :(.I've changed my default address to USA one. I have chosen the address IN US on the page. I also tried to enter another linked AMEX. All have failed to make the button active

  • Excellent. Fly to the US on Monday for 6 weeks!
