Blue Iris Surveillance Camera Software Version 5 Update via Extended Support US $29.95 (~AU $43.29) for Existing Users

60

The popular Blue Iris software for surveillance camera is being upgraded to v5 on 1 June. The developer has said the purchasing the new full version will cost more than the existing full v4 version (US$69.95, or US $50 using the IPCam link posted in the comment below). But for existing users you can upgrade to v5 by purchasing extended support at US$29.95 https://blueirissoftware.com/support/

Just a friendly reminder for current users.

Better than MileStone's XProtect? Essential+ gives you 8 Free camera licenses, and their support for the free version is exceptional.

    • Sorry I haven't tried MileStone solution so cannot say if it's better. At the end of the day this is a subjective question so whatever works is a good solution, taking into account the time and effort required to learn to configure a new system. This post is intended for existing Blue Iris users rather than recommending Blue Iris.

    • When I tried MileStone's product a few years ago it worked well but I was concerned with it's much larger program sizes and co/pre-requisite programs compared to Blue Iris which I felt was easier to administer and add different brand camera's etc. I don't know if their latest version has changed that comparison.

  • How does this compared to iSpy?

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • This should be in the forum. Not really a bargain but more of an announcement?

    This is fairly important.

**If you have not already done so, upgrade your system to Windows 10 (or at least 8.1) to insure compatibility.

I am windows 7 and on V4. I do not plan to update my OS.

This is where sometimes I wish BI can support Linux. Tried to move my old boxes at home off Windows and onto Linux but gaming and Blue Iris are the ones I had to stick with Windows even though I am absolutely disgusted by Win10 telemetry.

Thought about running VMs but didn't have the energy and time to set those up as I haven't existing skills in VMs.

  • Have a look at alternatives before paying money.

  • I've been using Blue Iris for years, after having tried many many alternatives, and I think it's excellent. I'll probably wait a few months before upgrading to the new version to avoid the bleeding edge effect …

  • If current version is working properly, I don't see any point in rushing to upgrade. I will pass on this one.

    • Yep, that's also a very valid strategy. To be honest the existing v4 worked well enough that for most people (myself included) will not have material improvement. I just liked the idea of continued supported software and am happy to pay for the upgrade assuming it will go on and last for a couple of years and the cost seems reasonable to me.

  • The existing version can be purchased for US$50:

    • I purchased this over a month ago. Wonder if we can purchase a cheap upgrade?

      • If you purchased after 1 April then you already is eligible to upgrade to v5, no need to purchase upgrade

        • Oh dear lord thank Christ. I ordered on April 2nd from ipcamtalk.com

  • So for a newbie to this software, how would this work as an alternative to the Swann POE system I have?

Their website and forum assumes you know a lot about the software and even the user videos show the system up and running - not how it is set up.

The cards they suggest appear to be all BNC, not POE?????

Does anyone have a link to a set-up guide?

    • Check out ipcamtalk - I'm not currently using BI, but I've noticed lots of user discussion, videos, how to guides etc, so you may get better support from the community than the developer.

  • Does it detect “people” ?

I am using Sighthound and loving it but it uses so much cpu etc.

  • Does anyone know what the difference is between "Extended support and maintenance (US$29.95 annually)" and "One year extension of support and maintenance without a subscription (US$34.95)"?

Does the first stop working after a year?
