  • Would you need to load up prime for au or does the ap just work??

    • AU amazon doesn't work for me.

Netflix/Plex are fine. TBH just buy a Roku

      • Do you have a link on Roku unit you mentioned? Looking to get a good TV stick for streaming.

        • Jump on US amazon and look at the different versions of streaming stick (I got streaming stick + 2018) and check which spec u like. Then head to Ebay.

I paid $60 landed for mine last year.

    • As this is my first fire TV Stick , I haven't tried it but what I read on net is Prime is attached to US only.

  • Store in title :)

So it's gone up in price, and that makes it a bargain? That is the price stated by the Techradar review …

    https://www.techradar.com/reviews/audio-visual/av-accessorie…

    • +2

That seems to be the basic version. Different to the one linked above

      • -6

The link was for the TV and the 4K stick current release. the basic one didn't do 4K - and was even cheaper!!

        • +2

          from your link

"Resolution is limited to 1080p, although this is perhaps understandable given that this is a budget-focused device. "

"If you’re in the market for a Fire TV device, it might be best to try your luck with the Amazon Fire TV Cube or new Fire Stick 4K instead. But if you want a capable streamer that gets the job done this one is more than enough to get you up-and-running."

Kindly please read article your self before leaving negatives.

          • -6

@winfan: "Kindly please read article your self "

The negative is because your price is not a bargain, regardless of 'RRP claims', as it is the price listed in the review I found very quickly from a reputable site listing that price as the normal price for this 4K fire stick.

Form the paragraph below the first photo:

"Amazon launched a refreshed, new version of its thumb drive-sized streaming stick earlier this year. The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K is capable of 4K HDR playback, and boasts a number of new specs"

That is the one referenced as being US$39.99.

            • @terrys: I think you're digging a hole for yourself here.

Using your link, it literally links TR's own review on the 4K fire stick which costs $68 + $40 for the voice remote.

              • @4tran: No, the current price for the 4k (which comes with an Alexa remote) is USD $40.

Shipping probably kills this deal compared to an eBay purchase.

I think you are comparing apple with oranges .. The Link you provided is for basic Fire Tv Stick .

The product & price in article is for basic version not 4k.

  • This or my older MiBox 3?

    • +1

You're locked into Amazon with this, however they may offer you what you want especially if you prefer the Amazon only offerings now Google seem to be getting a bit more insistent on monetizing their offerings, such as crippling the search options and pushing their 'recommended' crap. I was getting heartily sick of getting " somewhere over the rainbow" after 10 tracks regardless of whether I'd started with rock, classic, folk or even 'Andean nose flute recorded on Tuesdays' a few months back…

      • Yeah that's what I figured, was just wondering if it was time for an upgrade but don't think so, my MiBox is still working solid with Netflix and Kodi and if I was to upgrade it should probably be to the Shield, appreciate your knowledge mate.

    • I'm surrounded by mibox3. Cannot fault it.

Got one of these firestick free, from TorGuard deal. No interest.

  • This or mi box?

      Vodafone TV

  • +2

And real reason to get this over a local Vodafone TV?

  • +2

Unless things have changed recently, this is not a supported device in Australia as far as Amazon are concerned so you won't be able to watch Prime via the 4k Stick.

    • +2

You can sideload the Australian Prime app no worries - I also have kayo and Foxtel go working on it fine

      • Foxtel go or now?

        • Ah sorry Foxtel Now - always get them confused

      • +1

Ah, excellent news. It's a capable stick otherwise.

  • Amman above is correct - I have a fire stick 2nd gen with Alexa Voice Remote and it does not work on my amazon AU prime account. Only the fire stick basic is supported here :(

    • +1

The native Prime App is for the US market - you can sideload the AU prime app and it works fine…

      • Really? far out I thought my 2nd gen fire stick was doomed to be a paperweight

I'll have to look into this but if you have a go to site let me know!

      • Could you PM me with the deets to sideload please.

        • FYI. There are plenty of YouTube videos that can show you how to sideload apps for both Amazon Fire TV sticks and Android TV devices. (Slight differences, but essentially the same process).

I gave my Amazon stick away as I use the Nvidia Shield TV now. I have plenty of apps from Aptoid that I have sideloaded in the past, but it has become easier now with Aptoid (& others including direct with Puffin Android TV web browser).

I ran both the ABC iView and SBS On Demand apps on the Nvidia Shield TV that were sideloaded (originally ported from the Sony Android TV). The Google Play store (AU) is slowly adding Android TV versions of apps, but unfortunately, the Amazon App store (AU) is still very poor of Australian app content.

          Good luck :)

I have this product and thinking of replacing it with Vodafone TV.

Vodafone TV just works better for me.
Firesticks is just very slow. Probably because it has to continuously upload my data and load Amazon services (e.g. Amazon prime recommendations).

Vodafone TV is just faster and cleaner.

    • Do you have fire stick 4k or the regular? By all accounts the 4k is the fastest android box available.

  • 8GB storage is not really enough, especially if you use Kodi to manage a large media collection.

  • Probably too late to ask here, but can I side load Amazon Prime AU on Amazon Stick 4K grey import AND connects to Aussie Amazon Prime ok?
