Not saying it's a great TV but the price is insane

    • +3

      I was thinking this myself.
When you think that the vast majority of TVs probably just get chucked in the living room, never get shifted off the factory of shop settings, spend their life playing morning TV and Peppa Pig, $550 for a 65" UHD set is the sort of thing that brings big 4K size screens to the masses and that can only be a good thing.

  • +4

Such a great pricing, what’s more Soniq has 3 year warranty on some of their models and this one seems to be in the list!

    N65UX17A
    https://www.soniq.com/au/warranty-terms-conditions

And with free shipping and amazon backing up your sale and fulfilling your order, can’t get any safer!

it looks like you must register within 3 months of purchase with Soniq to get the 3-yr warranty ?

    • it looks like you would have to return the tv for warranty back to soniq in Victoria, that would be a real pain, pity cause 3 years warranty at that price seems to good to be true

    • +18

Cos its 65 inches! And great for poor people like me!

    • Agreed, soniq is garbage. It may be cheap but you're throwing $550 down the drain for awful product. So it's poor value.

I'd even take a kogan over soniq.

  • How would this compare to the Big W TVs that are a little bit more expensive?

    • +1

My guess would be near identical in terms of picture and sound quality

    • Better, but not by much

  • guys, do you know about the return policy, what if I order but dont like it and want to return ? I see the soniq return policy on the T&c but since this purchase is from Amazon, is it going to be any different ?

    • I too want to know more about this anyone?

  • +3

I purchased a 55" Soniq TV which began to have wavy green lines floating around the centre of the screen just when the warranty ended, so choose carefully with this brand. Could've been an isolated issue though, but it's quite safe to say I won't be considering this brand anymore personally.

    • +2

We Used to have a 50" HD we bought on a sale for around 300 from JB Hifi some years ago. Great picture, no one complaint ever.
When the 75" UHD recently was on sale at Goodguys (around 950 mark) I convinced the Mrs to give the old one away and to replace it with the 75"UHD.

      Pro: Price, decent picture, HUGE

con: connection with the sound bar playing up, inbuilt chrome cast failing to connect half of the time, and recently on start up green lines all over the screen. Not convinced it will serve us as long/well as its predecessor…..

    • Just to add a counter-balance i will add i have had a 48 inch soniq full hd tv for a number of years without any major issue. Picture is adequate, sound is utter garbage and naturally u need a soundbar but all in all pretty good. I will say for some reason when multiple HDMI inputs are plugged in there is snowy static for some reason so not sure if that's isolated also or a more common issue.

  • I have an Aldi 65", picture quality is good tho during start up I see some white fainting lines

It's still under warranty, it was $599 but considering returning now and just buying a better brand with better warranty. Prices have really dropped in the last 6-9 months.

  • +2

I've had a Soniq 50 inch in my bedroom for about 3 years.. picture is fine, still going strong

  • +8

I have this Tv and its absolute garbage but with few tweak of the setting it's watchable and you would need an android tv Box as the included "smart tv" don't even play some YouTube video in full screen. Overall if you can afford another brand please do so and don't waste your time on this. BTW other brands I have experience with are Kogan, LG and Samsung and I think Kogan is the way to go if you are on a budget.

  • +7

I've had Soniq TVs and I think they're fine. Speakers aren't great but quality seems okay.

Instead of comparing this to other 65" 4K TVs, compare it to other $549 TVs.

  • +3

Taken a punt and bought one for the rents. Just a placeholder till they want to buy something better like an OLED.
    Wish me luck!

  • Bought the 55" version, had it replaced, the replacement had issues too. Got a refund. Dead/Hot pixels in both cases. Purchase with caution! At least Amazon has decent policies.

  • Great !! Used the Amazon gift card from the HDD orders last week. $489 for a 65" is pretty good.

  • How would this go as a PC monitor - large screen for a meeting room kind of thing?

    • +1

I use a 40" TV as a monitor, and it works well.

I use it because I have trifocal glasses, and the "middle range" section of my glasses (which focuses at arm's length) is annoying for two reasons:
      - It isn't wide enough, I have to keep nodding my head up and down to see everything on the screen
      - I have to tilt my head back to use the middle range section of the glasses, which gives me a sore neck after a couple of hours.

Using a 40" TV lets me sit well back from the TV, so I can use the large "far range" section at the top of my glasses. Solves both problems.

With a 4K TV, you could consider it like the resolution of four FHD monitors, so you can fit much more on the screen - if that's what you want. Assuming, of course, that your video card can output at 4K resolution at a reasonable frame rate.

Does anyone who owns this specific model want to chime in? General comments on Soniq TVs are about as useful as general comments on Ford vehicles.

Read the comment above by junkie13, aids with the decision making.

  • anyone know if this TV supports 4k@60hz ??

    • Official Soniq website stated 100/120hz panel. So it should do 4K@60hz.

  • What a bargain. Not an OLED but at this price with a 3 year warranty I can finally afford to mount a 65" UHD in the toilet ;)

  • built in chromecast & does 4k@60hz for this price w free shipping.

Insane price, and for the price one can't complain or compare it with more expensive TV's most 4K TV's in this price bracket do 4K@30hz

  • Is the built in chrome cast a 4k cromecast, or 1080? Does it need an Ethernet cable for internet?

I have the gen2 chrome cast, 1080, works ok mostly, except for trying to stream Amazon Prime, that’s the hardest thing to do.

  • Anyone received confirmation on delivery yet?

    • Not yet. Did you use free Prime delivery like I did?

Just checked the ad again and it has this note for Prime delivery… This item is eligible for Prime delivery but requires additional processing time.

      • Yeah Prime free delivery.

I must have missed the part where it says additional processing time required.

  • Has anyone received there unit and prepared to give some feedback on it?

hi mate. mine is arriving today. if i remember i'll let you know.

      • mine should be here next week

    • it's okay. operating system is slow. about what you expect for a $550 65 inch tv. Couldn't get it to connect to kayo. youtube no problems.

      • Have you been able to run netflix smoothly, thinking of getting one for my Mum.

        • Haven't tried netflix yet but will do. Hopefully I remember. The remote connectivity is awful

          • @Carrian: When you say remote connectivity, are you referring to input lag?

            • @Kingcoin: oh no, the remote just sucks shit. the connectivity to the receiver is bad. i have no way of testing the input lag to output ms. i do however have a ps4. it's not great, but passable for $550.

              • +1

@Carrian: Bahahahahaha, well $550 i am not expecting much, but as long as the remote works sometimes that is what matters bahaha. I am just trying to get a new Tv for my Mum, her Grandchildren broke her last (43 inch Kogan) As long as it can run Netflix and Youtube and the picture is clear she will be beyond happy, especially with the size upgrade. Thanks for answering my questions buddy =)

                • @Kingcoin:

I am just trying to get a new Tv for my Mum, her Grandchildren broke her last (43 inch Kogan)

Wait so, your kids broke her TV? :)
65" would be a huge upgrade from 43. Hope it went well!

      • Thanks for writing up your experiences.
How was setup and picture quality for you?

        • For some reason the setup goes straight to chromecast. Took me 10 minutes to realise I needed to press source to change it to Digital TV. Starts an automatic channel tuning.

Picture quality is what you expect from a $500 65 inch TV but in saying that I haven't tried any 4k content.

      • Glad they are getting delivered now. Mine is due on the 12th. If you get a chance can you check the chromecast to see whether its the standard or ultra? I never would have expected the built in media player to be any good but if its a chromecast ultra I may not need to connect another box to get 4k.

        • I believe it's standard not ultra.

      • thats a shame, was one of the main reasons I wanted a new tv to watch kayo sports

      • im very impressed for the quality vs price , the only thing I think lacks a little is the speakers but a soundbar can fix it. the picture quality is great so far … be sure to turn "MFC" to HIGH in the settings to enable 100hz motion.

        So far, so good

    • just fyi for those asking questions i've bought this tv for my parents. it's an upgrade from an 11 year old panasonic viera 50 inch plasma. i couldn't give a (profanity) whether it's good or not. it's an upgrade either way.

  • +1

Anyone else received the TV and used it with an Xbox or PS4? Care to give some feedback?

  • installed out the back this morning, good bang for buck, only issue so far is chrome casting foxtel, but as netflix works fine i am guessing its the crappy foxtel app

  • +1

I grabbed one of these for the man cave but (profanity) it's been a nightmare with toll

It's been a farking week and it's been sitting at the Depot
I really farking hate them as a courier service

    • same thing here .mine one still in depot

    • wtw how is the picture quality I mean is it worth buying ?

      • Lol I'll tell you when they deliver the damn thing

        • mine delivered today picture quality is good i just checked on YouTube but no USB port in the TV

          • @0007thakur: There is one next to the Ethernet port
They like to call it a service port though

  • Finally delivered and setup

    It's not bad.
For what you pay it's perfect for man cave.
Here's hoping to a few years of service

  • Just to follow up a bit
Fixed some settings in the Xbox s and honestly even though it doesn't have hdr it still looks great.

No it's not going to go up against some of the name brands or oled tvs but for what I paid, I'm very happy and so is the fam. They think I lashed out on something expensive lol

No noticable lag when starting up, goes to last input.
Osd, epg and source change all go through fine.

Only drama was setting up my Logitech harmony one remote. But learnt the it functions and everything is back to normal.

Only one con, came with one dead pixel but from the distance I am viewing from I really don't notice it.
Still deciding whether to report it but for now I might just enjoy it a bit first

Gl to those that ordered too!

    • can you expand on what "learnt the it functions" for the harmony remote please?
I have got one of these tv's and the standard remote is crappy at best, yet i read elsewhere that you cant get a logitech harmony remote to work properly.
      any tips would be appreciated,

      • I've got a old Harmony One remote that I've used for years.
I initially tried setting up my activities with the Soniq tv (previous smaller Sony) and it wouldn't change inputs correctly when the new activity was selected.
I had to use the soniq tv remote to send the ir commands to my Logitech remote to learn the proper input selections
Once that was done, was fine from there

        • thanks for the explanation

          • @farknos: No problems

Hope it works out for you

    • Bummer about the dead pixel(s) mate. I'm lucky I dont appear to have any that I can see.

I wouldnt bother reporting it. I just read through the warranty and it states that less than 1% dead pixels is not classed as a defect. As there are 8,294,400 pixels in these panels you would have to have at least 82,944 dead before it was considered a defect. If you can see it from a distance I would bet there is more than 1 dead one there, can you try and count to 83,000 lol.

  • I've decided to return my one (Amazaon were great). Not sure if It's just my TV but I find really noticeable vertical lines down the TV in bright scenes when the shot is panning, I think maybe something to do with the bulbs? Other than that I have no problems and thought the image was really solid. I'll go back to my 10yr old Panasonic plasma until another deal comes up on a slightly more expensive TV.

    • That's a shame!

I'm finding real good value at the moment with mine.
It's been getting alot of use at the moment.
Except for some slight lag from remote commands it's been a good buy
