Oppo wanna be Apple and want us sheep to pay that much? Get outta town boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • +9

Apples xs max 256gb RRP is $2049, no 5g and no free headphones, cant compare

      • +2

But you cant argue that its because of apple that we are seeing these ridiculous mobile phone prices accross the board.

    • +1

No amount of money will buy you an Apple 5G handset.

    • the headphones though. im seeing a trend, they price their phones near apple prices but give expensive pre order bonus. maybe its to counter their phone's price drop and give them a more apple like branding.

  • +6

    RIP huawei.

  • -4

It will be sanctioned like huawei in the next round of the great trade war. Buy any China made electronic with caution.

    • +4

      They’re all china made, boss

      • No, I just checked my Samsung S10 + is made in Vietnam. Made in china is dying, because of the great trade war so manufacturers are moving away from China. Trump should put the nail in the made in china coffin.

        • +3

Believe it when I see it.

        • +1

China doesn't really care about this market anyway. They would be happy to just supply to Asia and Africa and split the mobile phone market again with their own mobile OS.

          • @teatime: Asians outside china and Africans aren't dumb enough to allow China has its way. They know what's going on. Maybe only Chinese in china have no choice once the party decides to lock the country.

            • +1

@mitsuki: All these countries will care about is the price, seriously.

        • Just Chinese and India market alone is sufficient to keep the ball rolling

  • +2

    Price in title

  • +1

Cheapest plan is 99 per month to buy with 3gb data….roflmao

    • That would be like 3 minutes of data…. You'd have to plan well for the month.

Is 5G has full coverage in major CBD? Otherwise no point to get 5G now

    • Not yet, progressing rapidly though…

  • +2

If you know anyone that has access to the Samsung EPP, they can buy the 5G S10 for $999.50 (256gb) and $1099.50 (512gb)

    • Education store?

    • Wow

    • r u a telstra employee?

    • +1

I can't find any 5G version of S10 in EPP

    • which EPP store? I didn't see it.

  • +1

5G, who thinks it's really necessary?

    • +2

If available in the same cost as 4G, then why not? Many felt the same about 4G when it was launched. But this is a huge step up. Matter of time, coverage will expand.

      • -7

But this is a huge step up

        No it isn't.

Well there is if you educate yourself using telco marketing like a fool.

Don't worry, you're in great company, head ACCC moron Professor Rodney Sims is doing the same thing because he's a clueless idiot.

        • +1

Higher bandwidth, lower latency. Sounds a good step-up to me.

        • +7

You sound like one of the people that made nbn what it is today.

        • +1

Must be exhausting being the smartest person, like, ever.

      • +3

as Diji1 commented, "much closer to the transmitter and reciever".

Not being biased, though does anyone care to comment directly relating to the facts regarding 5G in Australia?

The ARPANSA safety limits are set at 1000 µW (microwatts) per cm2, up to 300GHz. This was set in 2002 against a senate committee recommendation of 200 µW/cm2 in 2001.

Despite the fact that many other countries such as China, Russia, Bulgaria, Canada and Poland set the limit at 10 µW/cm2, Switzerland sets their safety standard even lower at 9.5 µW/cm2 and in sensitive areas at 4.25 and Austria set the safety limit even lower at .0001 µW/cm2.

WHY IS OURS 100 TIMES HIGHER THAN MANY OTHER COUNTRIES WORLDWIDE?

What is also alarming is that they have a disclaimer on their website that says that their info should only be used as a guide for education purposes and that you should seek professional advice (ie a doctor).

If their information should only be as a guide, why is it the standard that is being used to roll out 5G?

    • Not necessary this year, but will be necessary next year.

    • If you can stream 4k video on 4g, what use is it? Does it offer better range, signal strength, building penatration? Otherwise why bother?

      • -3

Does it offer better range, signal strength, building penatration

No, it offers potentially 25% faster speeds than LTE but only much closer to the transmitter and reciever.

For most people it's going to be ADSL levels of shit because it's wireless and short range. And this is a problem because the private sector, who just cannot rip people off enough, is now pitching this as a replacement for residential fibre to the premises (something the Government worked out it needed to do in 1989).

        • +3

25%? You need to educate yourself more for 5G. 5G will be up to 100x faster than LTE once it has been fully deployed. It is more complicated than you think it's just a speed bump.

There is a reason why US is fighting so hard to stop Huawei from deploying their 5G equipment.

          • +1

@Letrico: That person is ON something else lol

    • I don't change my phone every year. In fact (like most poor people) I change it once every 4-5 years and it is time to buy a new one. Buying is 4G phone now is not a wise decision for me. I am waiting for Note 10 5G.

    • +3

I work in a relevant industry and can tell you 5G is absolutely necessary. Given our NBN is destroyed and delayed our progress by a decade, 5G is important for us to keep up with the rest of the world.

      • How you're saying you work in a relevant industry, can you give some examples of data use and time it takes?
It is likely 5G will become congested just like the other iterations, and we can remind ourselves it is self confessed motive of telcos to cut the cost of copper and connections to the home and move onto wireless, whether or not speed promises are delivered its them who benefit.

        • I think the misconception so far is that 5G is just another higher speed mobile network but that is not the case. The underlying technology to achieve 5G is what is important. There are many articles around about 5G and the industry 4.0 so you should definitely check it out on how 5G will impact our next industrial growth.

Here is one very summarized article I have read before which may be able explain a few benefits of 5G.

    • +5

Most people in a relevant industry?

This isn't an incremental upgrade, the latency on 5G will be 20x lower than it currently is.

The bandwidth increases alone will allow people cut the NBN, you'll see terabyte plans in a few years.

      • Hell yeah. I disconnected the home connection years ago, tether everything to the phone and it blitzes what we had. Don't even need 5g but looking forward to it eventually.

  • Average consumers are better to wait until the 5G coverage expands and the deveice cost drops.

  • -1

Wait 4 months it will come down to $399 due to over supply as per sanctions.

    • You can always dream. Company like Samsung is not a charity, they will grab as much money as they can. Less competition means less incentive to cut price, you will see less discount when you want to buy highend phones if the trade war continues.

      • -1

Fear not, samsung's main rival in this space is apple, who are looking to reap the benefits of the trade war and will surely keep sansung on their toes for years to come. And make no mistake the trade war will continue into the foreseable future.

  • +4

    $1500 for an Oppo?! LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLL

    • +1

More like $1500 for a phone… Lol I wouldn't pay more than $600. But hey that's just me.

  • Could be Trump's next target.

  • Meanwhile, there isn't even 4G for half of my commute…
(And barely 3G for about 5-10 mins)

    • Yikes, what's your commute train line (assuming you use trains)?

      • The limited service part of my journey is on the CCN line between Woy Woy and Hornsby. Also, right after Woy Woy there is a big tunnel and like no service until after Wondabyne Station.

This is Telstra. I've tried both Vodafone and Optus here also and they fair even worse.
