How come people's response to Swann is always bad? I haven't used it but it seems to have survived in the industry for a long time and there has to be a reason?!

It's a good question. Probably the same reason people think McDonald's is great food or Apple products are value for money. People love a brand, quality and value are 2nd to a brand name.

If you do some research on Swann products I find they are mostly rated poorly. Especially when compared to other products that are higher quality and a cheaper price.

I wouldn't put mcdonalds into the same league with swann. To be frank some of their original stuff still like garbage but they've done quite a bit of innovation in their menu and still keep the price reasonable. Swann on the other hand just use old tech and put a fancy marketing buzz to the box hoping for some dumb heads would fall to the trap and the Australian owned badge which they actually did.

I thought exactly the same and bought a set of Swann CCTV 1.5 years ago. Then the major feature "remote streaming stop working". If you don't believe, check the Google Play review for Swann view link app. I would definitely buy a different brand if I choose again.

    • Because people like me buy them, before reading reviews
The model I purchased was so lound, it was like being in a server room
Crippled the functionality with each firmware released
      Very buggy
      Lots of skipped frames
      Token support
It should do what it says, but if you actually try and use, ie: view events, damn it takes a lot of time, compared to many other cheaper brands
I ditched their NVR, moved to BlueIris running on a PC, and just now replaced the Camera's.

We bought a Swann security set like above 3 months ago for $415 been fighting with it even since, its rubbish.

  • Any alternative that people recommend? :)
