      That is not HD.

    • -1

Resolution: 1366 x 768 HD not Full HD

      • To be fair to the rep, there is nothing in the deal that mentions or suggests that the TV is Full HD.

      • +1

opps sorry meant to plus you not - you… yes this is HD, not full HD
no where does it say that it is FULL HD, but this is why i hate hd/full HD… its a little deceptive to the mum and dad consume, unless you know what your doing you'd think - HD, sweet…

    • LOL. yeah 1,024 x 768 says it all. Nothing less than FULL HD should be bought these days. Won't neg cause compared to other HD tv's its a good price.

      • yeah i thought that too, but after a bit of reading, REP seems correct.

    • +1

yeah the HD terminology is a bit deceptive to people who don't know any better, they really should be advertised as 720P and 1080P

the word FULL, is easier to miss that, although those numbers don't mean much to the unwashed masses, its a lot easier to remember than HD/FULL HD… (father inlaw got caught in that trap when he went to buy the bedroom TV.)

    • So what… at this size the extra resolution means very, very little. Add to that - bluray is the only medium utilising 1080p. Anyone who thinks 720p/1080i looks better on a 1080p panel because of its resolution is wrong.

      • Wrong*** extra res is very important if playing console games at 1080p also if used as a pc monitor
also video camera and digital cameras can film in 1080p
so you have desktop, consoles, games, emulators, mkv, wmv, homemade video files NOT just bluray at 1080p

It is certainly worth going to Full HD for LCD/LED 32"+ and Plasma 51"+.

42" Plasmas barely get made in Full HD, which is a very strong indication that it's not a big concern at that size.

Please give a reason for your negative vote on this comment…

This seems to be a fair comment, but if you don't think it is, thats fine - at least explain yourself.

did a bit of reading into this few sources came up with simular:

Whether you're dealing with 1080p/24 or standard 1080p/60, doesn't alter our overall views about 1080p TVs. We still believe that when you're dealing with TVs 50 inches and smaller, the added resolution has only a very minor impact on picture quality. In our tests, we put 720p (or 768p) sets next to 1080p sets, then feed them both the same source material, whether it's 1080i or 1080p, from the highest-quality Blu-ray player. We typically watch both sets for a while, with eyes darting back and forth between the two, looking for differences in the most-detailed sections, such as hair, textures of fabric, and grassy plains. Bottom line: It's almost always very difficult to see any difference—especially from farther than 8 feet away on a 50-inch TV.

      • Fair point, i was talking about the new 51" samsungs.

Generally speaking, there are 50 and 51 inch HD plasmas available. I wouldn't recommend getting them if you can afford to jump up to full hd, however the newest HD ones will still do a very good job of displaying pretty much every type of content.

We also have 50" full hd plasma on sale (in fact, it's probably the best value of all the TVs in the clearance, 50" Series 6 Samsung Plasma for $929. Only 1 left though, hence the reason it wasnt the main deal posted here)

        • Will there be another special on full hd plasma similar to this anytime soon ?

        • Mikinoz - Very unlikely that it would be anytime soon. Perhaps this time next year when the current models are being replaced again and there are some clearance items left.

At $929 for the series 6 unit, it represents extremely good value.

      • Thanks for the vote change. Always good to see fair OzBargainers.

I just bought a 42" Plasma in HD. All my buddies were telling me to add a few more dollars so I could just get the FULL HD model. I told them that at the distance I was watching it, and the size of the TV, I wouldn't get ANY appreciable benefit, considering I'm not a TV and movie fanatic. I just wanted to pictures to look good and that FULL HD would look pretty much identical.

One of my buddies said, "well what about the future, when there are more Full HD sources?" And I replied, it will look just as good displayed on my TV, again based on the screen size and distance.

What I'm trying to say is, I don't need the latest and greatest when I know EXACTLY how I want my TV to perform. Getting the FULL HD when I, the buyer couldn't appreciate the difference was beyond me. Basically it boiled down to someone else telling me that FULL HD is better based on numbers alone and not on what I could see for myself. The $200 odd that I saved by not choosing FULL HD was better spent with other toys that I really wanted. LOL

        • 1024x768 and Full HD is a big difference, did you actually see them side by side?

720p and 1080p may not see the difference but not 1024.

        • from wiki:
720p is the shorthand name for a category of HDTV video modes having a resolution of 1280×720

so yeah i guess this TV would have to scale to get full 720p- they are not widescreen either, its a 4:3.

so image quality should be about the same but widescreen shows will have the edges cut of like they did with the old CRTs… unless you have the black boxes above and below it…

Strange that I can't reply to your post. The reply button isn't showing up.

To answer your question, I did look at them side by side. That's why I ultimately decided for the HD rather than the Full HD. I was comparing a Panasonic HD plasma side by side with its Full HD brother. What I saw was pretty much identical. I had my wife with me too and she was gung ho to get the Full HD screen too, but when I decided I couldn't see a difference, I asked her if she could point any differences out… she couldn't either.

Now with regards to 1024 vs 1280 vs 1366, I don't know what sort of mumbo jumbo or scaling it did, but I didn't get any letter/pillarboxing nor did I notice any cut off areas.

All I can report is that we're quite happy with our new TV. Sitting down in front of it gives me and my wife a smile on our faces, and I think that's the bottom line with our purchase. :)
[Now if only everything else could be that simple…. LOL]

    • not wide screen its cutting off the edges… best way to tell is if the channel logo appears right on the side of the screen rather than a little in… (edges are over rated, your not missing much)

you cant reply because there is a maximum depth level of replying, its too stop replying too much, typically most people just get the comment before the last depth and reply to that.

  • Thanks a big hunk of name brand TV for the price. A good deal in my book.

Where is the pickup location, and what hours are you open ?

    • Hi effgee,

Pickup location is in Richmond, Melbourne.

      We are open 9am - 5:30pm, Monday - Friday.

Orders can be placed online or over the phone.

  • please for the love of love can someone explain why 1,024 x 768 is used as it is a 4:3 aspect ratio on a 16:9 tv
the same resolution we all used back on our 14 inch crt monitors in the olden days

  • Hi REP,
On whirlpool, one guy says that he's bought the 50" plasma for $699 in JBhifi's clearance.

Are you going to bring your price down on it too?
