Telstra 12-Month SIM Only Plan $65/Mth 60GB Data + $500 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card OR Several Handset Offers @ JB Hi-Fi (Port-in Offer)

4710

Hi all,
Just ported in my number back into Telstra using this amazing offer from JB-HiFi.

Basically you get $500 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card (with no expiry) when you sign on to JB Hi-Fi Telstra 12 Months Plan for $65/month which offers Unlimited Local calls and 60GB Data.

Update (20/06): As per latest reports from the comments, this has been revised to $300 Gift Card as of today i.e. $500 offer withdrawn a bit earlier.

For those who would rather buy a handset, there are several offers as listed below:
(I managed to have a quick glance at their internal email, so sharing the love)

Samsung Note 8 - $199 upfront
Oppo Find X 256GB - $199 upfront
Huawei Mate 20 - $199 upfront
Samsung S10e - $399 upfront
Samsung Note 9 128GB - $599 upfront
Google Pixel 3 64GB OR Huawei P30 - $199 upfront - Update (20/06)

LATEST UPDATE (13/06),
From 13/06 to 16/06, instead of the $500 OR the Handset Offers already mentioned above, you can also choose to avail one of the following offers:
$0 Upfront: Hisense 43" 43R6 TV OR XBOX One X 1TB Console OR iPad 128GB 6th Gen (Wi-Fi model) - Update (16/06): This particular option is now extended to 19th June ans is also open to new customers

$49 Upfront: Apple Watch 42mm (Series 3)
$99 Upfront: iPhone 7 (32GB)
$799 Upfront: Oppo Reno 5G
Update (20/06): These options are now expired

All offers are for port-in customers only. [Having said that, I ported out of Telstra for couple of hours this morning and managed to port right back in using this offer without any issues - so worth a go!]

Note: From what I understand, this particular offer may not have any signage to promote it in the stores, so do try mentioning it to JB Hi-Fi staff in order to avail the offer. This offer expires on 23 June but if keen I would recommend getting it sooner than later (just in case it gets withdrawn earlier). Have a great day folks!

Edit: To answer a common query from comments - This Plan does not include Peace of Mind (POM) data OR $10 International Calling Pack

Edit 2: For those keen on scoring even higher bang for the bucks, for an extra $4/month you can easily upgrade this plan to Telstra’s $89 BYO plan (currently discounted to $69/month) via Online 24x7 chat, thereby giving you (hold your breath):

Extra 30GB data (total of 90GB data including Peace of Mind (POM) data)

Unlimited international talk & text to 15 selected countries (i.e. Bangladesh, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Lebanon, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, UK, USA and Vietnam)

International roaming - 2GB data roaming and unlimited talk & text in eligible countries (Argentina, Austria, Bangladesh, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Egypt, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Laos, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nauru, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovak Rep, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, UAE, UK, USA, Uruguay, Vanuatu, Vietnam)

If you do international travel and/or make overseas calls to the above destinations this is the BEST VALUE mobile plan ever (in my humble opinion) as you'll be effectively paying just $27.3/month for all of the above! Update (20/06): Gift card has now been reduced from $500 to $300.

          • @ronnknee: Do try on your account. At least you can point out that you were given this deal, so they cannot deny that it has happened.

What I mean is to start a chat on your account, asking them to confirm what deal you have, then "pass you GF over" so that she can confirm her account details.

            • @DukeNinja: Will keep that in mind in future. Can anyone confirm if that actually works? Haha.

Anyway, here's a summary of what happened.

My account / Agent 1: Basically couldn't do, $49 is for new port ins, can offer $59 instead. I mentioned that I didn't know about the $49 offer otherwise I would've gotten it instead. They checked with supervisor and then they were able to get me the $49 plan. However, I had to pay a pro rata for $65 plan of $1 something lol. Whatever.

GF's account / Agent 1: Couln't do, same story. I asked them to check with the supervisor and they transferred me to the supervisor instead.

GF's account / Agent 2 (Agent 1's supervisor): Wasn't very helpful and didn't take pity on me. Told me that "offers come and go". He also said that I would've gotten a promotion from JB Hi-Fi. Ended the convo there.

GF's account / Agent 3: Couln't do for me, but if I signed up for the $49 plan, he would transfer my port in or something. Signed up and he supposedly delinked the old plan and linked it to the new plan.

I feel like the stories about changing from $65 to $49 isn't a simple change. Both times I had to perform another credit check.

              • @ronnknee:

You're correct, the CSO actually mentioned that it was me being re-contracted, without any of the termination fees of course but he also made it seem like a simple and painless change…

                Jhon Menard:
One last thing before I let you go…

It’s very important for me to make sure that our chat is fully resolved after I have recontracted your plan to the $49 BYO plan 60GB including $20 monthly credit.

Have I fully resolved your enquiry today?

    • The $49/15GB plan is available as a $39/30gb BYO companion plan ($10 credit and 15gb bonus data).

  • -1

Just signed up in Melbourne CBD. The JB plan does NOT come with any international calls or texts. Does NOT come with Peace of Mind Data. NO roaming credits.

    • Yes, OP and others have pointed this out beforehand. But the Telstra plans do.

      • I think OP got (or he or she thought the JB plan has) international calls (made within aus)

      • Duke, could I please ask for a copy of your chat transcript from Telstra?!

        • How did you get on?

  • +1

Just confirming. Via chatting to Telstra online sales, I managed to switch the plan to Telstra $69 BYO. Next thing is wait for the bill to confirm a $20 discount has been applied.

    • Was your Telstra number active when you did this?
I tried but because my port hasnt been completed, the rep couldn't do it

      • yes, it was active. My porting finished within 2 minutes in the JB store. Once the porting is finalised, we're considered existing customers, at mercy of the online rep making a switch

  • +2

    Case with me:

Went to JB HiFi yesterday to purchase this plan but it was closing time so the girl said to come today and they can offer me that $65 per month plan with $500 GIFT CARD

I went today with one of my friend.
Port my Number from LYCA to Telstra. Was told by staff member that because its a LYCA sim so its not gonna active until Tuesday because of Sunday and Public Holiday and they can only offer Gift Card when the Telstra Sim will be active. I said OK I will wait until it is activated and will come back to pick up the GC

My friend also ported his number from Optus to Telstra. His number got activated on spot like within 5 minutes. He got his GC on the spot.

Within 30 minutes, I alos got message that my port request is complete. I wemt back to the store and got my GC.

    CAME BACK HOME
Started chatting with Telstra Agent, it took her a while to understand what we want to do.
She escalated my case to her manager and was told to change our plans to $49 per month.

I confirm with her that is there any cancellation charges or ending contract with jb hifi charges then she said no she will waive off any termination fees.

Finally she said your first bill will be around $98 and then it will be $49 per month and then I asked why and she gave some weird explanation of advance bill plus pro rata usage.

To be honest, at that time I just wanted my plan to be changed. So I agreed to whatever she said and got my plan changed.

When my plan was changed, I asked her to change my friends plan and she said Ok to change it.

Now we both are drinking beer with barbeque ON..

Cheers to all.. Thanks OP for this deal..

    • What was your experience like when you went back to collect the GC?

Who did you speak to? did you have to show them anything?

      • He gave me the receipt with note mention on that $500 GC to be issued when the port request is complete. He was so helpful as he said he will be working today and tomorrow and I can directly meet him if my port request is complete or else he gave me some person's name who will be working on Tuesday so that I can collect my GC easily.

        • Thanks.

I didn't get any receipt which I thought was fair enough as I didn't actually pay JB anything. The sales person I dealt with isn't working on Monday, so I will have to test my luck with the store manager!

      • and yes, I went back straight to the person I bought my Telstra sim

    • +1

      That's great!

My port requested has been processed but my number hasn't come through yet! The sales guy at JB gave me the $500 GC anyway. Although we did wait a bit, processed the a trade-in (for Pixel 3a)and I went for a quick trip to bunnings. Came back and port was still not done, he said it's ok and just processed the gift card which was used towards the purchase of Pixel.
BTW Where's your '+' for the deal? ;)

  • I wonder what price they'll do for the LG v50 on Tuesday with this deal…

  • Just wondering does Telstra have DATA POOL like Optus which allows you to share the data pool between two numbers?

    • No. Not on personal plans. There is data sharing in business plans, but it doesn't come with this JB hi-fi deal.

  • +1

F&* sake. Over 7 hours on Telstra chat with a brick f'in NO at everything. What incantation of words are you successers using.

    • I gave up. Settled with 49/mo with 15gb+5gb bonus. They did another credit check on me though.

    • haha..sounds like what i am feeling now but with with far better choice of words than i can think of.Finally i surrendered and simply move over to $59.This is the last time(I hope) i am going to read the comments for this post.Don't want to feel let down after reading stories of all the winners.

  • I only managed to get $10 credit on the $69 plan despite the person at online chat spoke to his superviser.

  • Me and my gf went to JB Hifi to get our plans ported as it's nearing to end anyway and our plans are terrible but I'll be doing it first. The pros outweighs the cons with the disconnection fee vs the $500 gift card and the potential saving with the plan. The guy is aware of this deal and also told me it ends on June 23. He said that until the plan gets activated, he can't give the $500 GC and lots of people today were backlogged as the system was not activating it. However, mine was the last one for the day and that went through which means I don't have to come back tomorrow.

Went to Telstra chat and got my plan to $49 / month for 12 months than the $69. Going to do it to my gf soon. Telstra network is already 0.75x faster in my area :)

  • Noob question, but how much does telstra charge for early termination of this plan?

    • $780 if you have no discounts.

      • +3

No it is only $390. Check the T&Cs.

    • ETC on the $39/30gb plan is $294.

So you could realistically sign up to the $65 JB deal, switch to $39/30gb plan, cancel, pay the ETC and make $206.

  • Hi Folks, Did anyone have success with porting out and porting back in?

    • You don't need to bother. Just sign up to the new service then get chat to cancel the previous service and move the old number across.

      • Does this work?

        • I've been told by 2 separate reps it does and have a reference number. Will confirm in about 90min when I get back from JB

          • @[Deactivated]: Sweet. Let us know how you go today.

            • @mandelbrot: So far I've got the $500 gift card from JB and $100 trade credit towards a Pixel 3a. Salesman at JB also gave me $50 off the purchase price of the Pixel 3a so that was effectively free. Have got Telstra to change me to the $49 companion plan (15GB) with $10 discount then jumped on chat 30min later and got this data increased to 30GB.

Short version is 30GB 12 month plan + free Pixel 3a.

I think I'll give them a break for the rest of the day then get the numbers swapped around tomorrow.

              • @[Deactivated]: Woweee! So the companion plan…did it need to have an existing account with Telstra?
And BTW, if you'd waited till this evening's Pixel 3 price drop, then it could've been the Pixel 3 instead of the 3a ;) (Don't worry even I got the 3a on the same deal…tried to return the 3a for the 3 but due to trade-in already done for $100 it couldn't be processed)
JB also dropped their pricing on the 3 to $899 following HN.
But well done on getting a great deal nonetheless!

                • +1

@alterego13: Yep I have an existing account with Telstra but not sure if it is a requirement or not. I think you can still get the same deal but with slightly less data than advertised.

Yeah I did see the Pixel 3 deal posted earlier yesterday morning but for me the 3a was still the preferred phone. This one is for my wife and she wanted something slightly bigger than the 3 but without paying the extra for an XL. It usually gets dropped a few times a year too so hopefully it will be more robust than the all glass 3 but time will tell.

Saying that the JB rep actually pulled out a 3 by mistake initially and I didn't say anything but he realised shortly after.

            • @mandelbrot: And number has been swapped. Took chat about 30min then 4hrs later all done. Old number on new service

      • Thanks for your reply, but isn't this offer for port ins only?

        • if jbhifi is being strict on this,
-buy a $2 sim for optus or whoever
          -activate on the spot
          -port in to telstra

          • @googoogaga: Yep do this

    • I was originally with Tesltra, ported to Optus this morning then went straight to JB. Told them what i had done which they didn't care. All my recent activity is visible to them anyway. Porting back to tesltra took about an hour though.

  • Signed up yesterday at JB, today changed to $59 plan ($89 discount to $69, then $10 port in credit). Really need roaming call/data !

    • Any chance you can pm me chat agent or script to get the deal? That's a really good deal

      • The only special request here is the $10pm port in credit. The $69/90GB plan is a standard discounted plan available on Telstra.

        • Yes, got it at 1st try

    • I didn’t get $10 port in bonus. Asked and the answer was plain NO!
What’s your agent’s name btw so I can tell them on live chat about it? Thx.

  • +2

can confirm it worked for me too. switched from 65 to 49 plan no questions asked

Also had to wait 1 day to get my 500gc as i was on vodafone and they dont port on sundays

staff found the form right away and it took 2mins to get the gift card so no worries there either!

    what a steal - a 60gb plan for $7.33/mth

    • +2

Well done mate! A green + next to you would have made it even a better look though ;) Enjoy!

      • +1

Done! I realised a few hours after posting that I forgot to upvote so came back to do exactly that :P

Thanks again for posting the deal mate

  • Thanks mate
All I did is walk in, shown the ozbargain page and just after looking at ozbargain the guy took me straight for making new contract.
    :)

  • Love me some OZBargain! Ported to Optus a couple weeks ago. I ended up going with the S10e for $399 on a $65 12 month plan. I then contacted telstra chat this morning and got $20 off a month dropping it to $45 a month for 12 months. Essentially puts the plan into credit as the JB receipt shows it as a $600 online gift card. Big thanks to the OP!

  • I am hitting a brickwall ATM.. spoke to couple of agents and no luck yet changing the plan to $49 one. They are happy to offer the same plan for $59 stating, since i have already signed up i am considered an existing customer. Can anyone please help me with their chat transcript for a reference to score the deal. Many thanks in advance.

    • +3

I just successfully did this on third try. Took the best of 3 hours to do it.
Something I understand that might have helped
      1. Chat from the direct sales pop on RHS of the screen (not from the contact us section which then asks to select sub-category etc)
      2. Ask them to speak to their supervisor if they say it can't be done as you're an existing customer)
      3. $49 is essentially the $59 plan but with $10 credit (for existing customers) so if it comes to that, accept the $59 and nicely ask for a $10 credit each month.
      4. Try to sound flexible with they can offer, but politely refuse if you don't want to accept and ask if they can check with their supervisor (that's what I did) got offered $59 at first, then $49 but only with 20gb (15+5bonus) which I politely refused and then after 30mins wait the $49 ($59-$10)for 60gb was approved.
At work right now, but I'll pm you the transcript as soon as I get a chance.
Good luck. Just don't lose your patience or courtesy!

      • Thank you very very much for the tips. i will keep on trying

      • Could you please PM the script as well

      • Wondering if I could grab that transcript through PM! Cheers alterego13

      • what sub-category did you select? might be the difference in what the agents can or can't do?

  • So is it safe to say that it is too late to port in with JB then go to Telstra chat to bring the plan down to $49? Some might have done it on the weekend but others doing it today are not having any success?

  • +1

Not having much luck having it changed to the $49 deal.

Keep getting told that "Just so you know, if in case you got any Gift Card from JB Hifi and you have not yet finish your contract, you will be charge of the Gift card."..

    • Lol. That's rubbish

    • +1

I keep getting the same answer - they say that they will charge me the cost of the gift voucher on my bill spread across the 12months! Going to try again….

      • That does not sound legal

      • ….Thanks for the info….I better not wasting my time changing the plan then…

  • Spoken to jbhifi green hills , Maitland , NSW, and they are saying you get 500$ gift card or pay 399$ for s10e phone, and you cannot use the gift card to pay the 399$ upfront. if you are buying the phone then you don't get the gift card , very strange

    • That's right. It's either the giftcard or buying those phones at a discounted rate.

  • Just got off the live chat with Telstra via the online portal. Stated that the deal of signing up to $65 at JBhifi and then switching to the $69 plan via telstra chat which then applies $20 credit is possible, however to be wary of any cancellation charges from JB Hifi Telstra? can anyone confirm if this isnt applicable? would have thought that because youre 'upgrading' to a higher plan the cancellation does not apply?

  • +1

    Just sharing my experience.
    1. Have a conversation with Telstra first. Although you know you are seeking for $49 plan, pretend to be very new to Telstra and ask for advise for plans.
    2. Normally they will recommend the $49 plan and then you can ask more details about this plan just to show you have interest to sign in.
    3. Explain you have heard JB has a $65 plan with $500, you do not know which to choose.
    4. Then try to use "friend example" saying he/she has signed up with JB and changed to the $49 plan. Also can tell them you want to upgrade the plan to $69 and as the promotion is going, you want that $20 discount as well.
    5. If the rep is happy to do that, ask for ref number, remember the rep's name.
    6. Go ahead to JB and sign up.
    7. Go back to Telstra ask anyone to check the conversation and help you change the plan.

I think it is important to have a conversation with them in the front. Show much interest during the conversation and try to keep it long then people are willing to do their best to help you. Based on the their feedback, you can determine signing up with them or not.

    • Could you share your chat log? I am currently chatting with Telstra, upon using the friend example, they said they couldnt confirm that 'my friend' recieved this as they dont have access to his account.Something to prove its happening would be good. This rep is saying she cannot physically apply the $20/month credit because I would no longer be a new customer after signing up to JB

    • +1

I don't think this is a good idea, as I have done this in the past. The other rep who I showed that the previous rep agreed to change my plan said that the other rep might not know about the policy and he/she can't change your plan. I had the chat log and the reference number but its useless as different rep have different outcome.

It will be just a waste of time for you to have pre-agreement before you actually sign up. My best advice is just to move on to other chat rep if you get refused rather than wasting time to argue with them.

      • Thanks for the tips. I am a sucker for getting stuck for way too long trying to talk the rep into changing. I def need to just move on

    • Thank you. This set of instructions is great. Took 3 tries, but finally got on the $49/month plan.

  • Ok 2nd time lucky on 24/7 chat, they were able to swap me over to the $69/month plan to get the extra 30GB plus international calls/text/roaming and PoM data for the extra $4/month. no mention of gift cards or other issues just a simple - "upon checking yes we can change it over to the $69 plan". The first time I tried it on chat, they tried to say I could do it but it was technically swapping from a JB Hifi Telstra account to a Telstra account, and JB Hifi would charge me for anygift card on the bill, spread across the 12 month period - all sounded a bit dodgy as I don't know how they could do that, but I wasn't going to risk it. I now have an chat transcript confirming they could change it and also confirming there are no other one-off costs. Let's hope it's all ok when the first bill arrives!!

  • which causes and screen protector will guys get for the new phone?

  • +1

Thanks op, signed up and got the S10 Plus (Prism Black/128GB/8GB) price matched for $1189 against Amazon Au here . I tried 6 different Telstra agents, and seems like they've all caught onto the $49 deal and will only do it for new customers now. I only managed to switch over to the $59 a month deal.

    • Does JB actually pricematch amazon?

      • I'm not too sure to be honest. I've tried before with the PS4 Pro and they didn't match that, but perhaps because I was buying the phone plan they decided to be nice? The receipt says "Discounted: Price Match - Other - Amazon. Manager approved", if anybody needs a copy let me know.

        • Can you please pm me the receipt as I am also planning to use my $500 GC towards S10 plus. Just in case if they refuse to do price match.

I have one more question, does JB HiFi have Price Match policy or Price beat Policy.

          As per my understandings:
Price match: They just match the price and give you the item on that price

Price beat: They will match the price and on top of it they give you some extra 5-6% discount.

          Which one JB HiFi follows??

          • @kingOfDeals: Sure can PM the receipt, but it says you're not accepting new messages so you might need to send me one first.

I believe it is a price match not a price beat, referring to their page here

I also think it may be up to the descretion of the manager, because it says manager approved on the receipt as previously mentioned.

  • Six months left on my Optus contract or I'd jump on this.

  • Tried 3 times over CHAT, seems like they are well aware by now, about people getting this deal and changing plans. However, there is no clear way, on their wesbite, or elsewhere, what is eligible and what is not.

    No LUCK!

    • True, true. Try to chat again with different agent. Even ask for supervisor if you think the agent just wasting your time. Tell them that many can do it online, so why can’t you get the same thing.

      • 4 times chat now, and spoke to supervisor. A total of 6+ hours wasted.

They won't budge with port in credit or new service connection discounts at all.

Tried all methods. Buttering, patience, perseverance, logic, sympathy factor. NO, they seem not to care maybe because lot of people in the first batch got some "unfair" deals according to them.

Now they won't even honour some legitimate requests.

Rule of OzBargain: when a deal is posted, get your a** quicker in the line

        • I did it all today. Ask for the $49 companion plan rather than a discount

  • Random thing worth mentioning, if you provide them with a phone number at the counter to send your receipt to, they will send you a link to the receipt which you can add to your JB HiFi account and get a $15 coupon for in store use.

  • Great finding!

I was able to score the upgrade with my first attempt. Telstra chat is the best!
The operator also gave me an extra 5gb for free so ends up paying $49 for 12 months with 65gb data + $500 gift card!

    Thanks Ozbargain!

    • The operator also gave me an extra 5gb for free.

Well that's random but good score.

    • What’s your name again??🤔🙂 maybe something to do with our names since few didn’t get the same result.

  • I managed to get my $10 port in bonus reinstated, with an extra 5GB data. So now paying $29 per month with 35GB data (after switching to the $39/30gb byo companion plan). Still got my $400 JB hi-fi gift card (which I got last week before they bumped up the gift card to $500).

    • I asked about that $10 port in bonus but the agent said NO!! Where can we find the T&C for that bonus?
Seems like every agents have different SOP to deal with us.

  • I recently left my job and they allowed me to take my work number with me (Telstra Business plan id imagine). Does anyone know if Im eligible for this plan?

    • Nope. You need to be off Telstras' network for atleast 30 days to be eligible to port back in. This applies to Boost, Belong etc too.

      • damm ok thanks for clarifying

      • +1

It depends on the JB salesperson. I was able to port out and the next day went to JB and the guy processed it. Prior to that I went to another JB branch and he told me that I need to be ported out at least 30 days.
