Google Pixel 3 64GB or Huawei P30 $199 Upfront on 12 Month $65pm Telstra Plan @ JB Hi Fi

1250

JB now has Google Pixel 3 or Huawei P30 for $199 upfront on the 12 month $65 plan.

Similar to the deal in May.
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/454635

Total Min cost for the plan is $780 and it includes 60 GB data, unlimited local calls and sms per month.

For total cost of $979 its a better deal than buying the phone outright and paying for a similar plan.

Its even better if you can upgrade the plan to BYO $69 plan with Telstra with $20 discount or $10 discount thru Telstra live chat.

Available to port-in customers and new Telstra customers only. Excludes Telstra Pre-Paid, Boost and Belong customers.

Nice, p30 is a solid phone, not as good as the past deal though.

    • +2

Nice phone if it gets android license back, otherwise your missing out on future updates and the price isn't justified.

      • -1

What price? I got it for 199 with 200 gift card ;)

        • How and when!?

  • +2

This deal in may worked great for me. Claimed 200$ voucher from Huawei(Expired now). And just tried my luck with claiming Sonos speaker and it was only for pre-orders. Anyways, My speaker was delivered and loving it. So worth a shot trying both sonos and gift card claim.

    • Do you have the link for claiming the Sonos speakers? Says Error 404 for me.

      • Yeah just chcked it, they have taken the page down. But still can try claiming 200$ voucher

  • +1

Slightly off topic, but on what grounds do people ask for the Telstra discount? Is it like a new customer discount or something?

    • +1

I signed up to this deal (P30) during the mother's day promo with the additional $200 gift card. Just go on live chat after signing up and ask for a $10 porting discount. Amazing phone.

      • +2

        Ah, "porting discount"..makes sense.

      • Do you think they will give this $10 discount to anyone who asks?

        • It's a bit of a hassle, but yes. I signed up yesterday, and tried two live chat agents – no dice. Today I tried again and my first agent did it right away.

          • @[Deactivated]: Well done, persistence sometimes pays off.

Exactly my reason for asking as I knew they often don't give a $10 discount for asking once

depending on who you get, but ask again and again and you may get what you ask for.

    • +4

Just ask for the $69 plan which is currently discounted to $49 after you get the plan from JBHifi. Most people have done it with no issues, including me.

      • how much penalty to pay if bailing out of the $49 plan? cheers

        • +2

$414 early termination fee for $69 12 month plan. It doesnt matter how much you pay, you still on $69 plan. I pay $49/month

      • Do you go on the telstra chat on the day to upgrade to the $69 ($49) plan after you bought the phone from jb hifi??

        • +1

Yes. But your mileage may vary.. some have got the discount straight away but others had to try few more times to get the $20 discount for $69 plan. $10 discount is easy to get as it is advertised.

          • @valra: Do we have to tell JBHifi to put us on the $69 plan instead of the $65 plan so that we can try to get the $49 plan telstra discount? Because JBHifi plan is $65.
edit: nvm the answer is on op's post.

        • I got the plan on a Friday and spoke to Telstra on the Sunday. So I would keep within a few days of of getting it. So it's still a "new plan". Leave it any longer and they might not treat as a choose your option.

  • +5

If you break down the total cost over twelve months and what's included.
To get an equivalent sim only plan for
60gb = $45pm so essentially you pay $200 upfront cost for the phone & $10 per month for 12 months to bring the cost to $55pm after the $10 porting discount.

Essentially total cost of the phone is $320.
    Bargain.

    • +4

If you've already got a phone, sell this phone and your monthly cost is even lower.

  • Maybe wait a bit for huawei phone price to drop and grab a bargain?

  • +1

Would it be worth getting the pixel over the p30 just for software and support. Is Kirin still heavily locked down?

  • +2

God damn I need the S10e included again like may. I have a sim and I'm ready to port out and in!

  • In the past JB would give a full separate receipt for the phone, is this still the case?

  • Wish I was more patient rarher than jumping on the Woolworths S10e deal on launch :(

    • Hehe, luckily it's better than both these phones anyway, so still doing well my friend.

  • What about the p30 pro option?

  • Anyone know if it's the Huawei P30 Pro or Lite model that you get for the extra $199 upfront?

    • should be standard P30

      • +1

Yes confirmed in-store that it's the standard P30.

  • +1

Does anyone know if the 12month $500 Jbhifi gift card is still on until Sunday?

    • Check this thread - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/462105?page=8#comment

      looks like it eneded yesterday.

    • Checked at Galeries JB Hi-Fi and now it's a $300 gift card offer.

      • $300 GC with pixel or without?

        • Without.

    • +1

Advised in-store that the $500 GC offer is still on, as an alternative if you don't want the Pixel3 or P30.

      • Which store was this? I was told at World Square that the $500 gc offer finished yesterday.

  • Cheapest i see for pixel 3 AU stock $800 outright..

65 per mth for 12 mths = absolute bargain

    • +2

Yup agree. Mine's going straight on ebay once I get the phone.

      • Fyi, I have tried selling my brand new sealed Pixel 3 on gumtree for $700 in Sydney, and I don't get a single offer(even low baller). It might be different for Ebay, but just don't get your hope too high when selling Pixel 3.

The pixel 3 RRP is ridiculous, no one would pay that amount.

      • -1

I will give you $400 if you want to sell it (with the receipt for warranty purposes).

  • Anyone recently (excluding the first JB Hi-Fi P30 promo weeks ago) sign up to this and was able to get it down to $49 successfully through Telstra chat?

    • Tried but denied although u will still get 10$ discount so making it to 59$ per month

      • was that the $10 activation or the $10 credit plus discount?

        • Credit as u can upgrade to 69$ per month and you are able to get 10$ credit discount

    • Not this promo, but the $45 sim only a few months back.

Took me 5 attempts to speak to a rep that would finally apply a porting discount for me.

Just gotta try, try and try again mate.

    • Yep I managed to get it down. First rep I talked to didn't offer it but the second was happy to do it.
Also got offered a $10 credit on top. Not sure if that's just for the first bill or for each month however.
Seems to bit of a hit or miss with the reps.

    • I got just now. No issues. I was able to reduce to $49

  • edited

I know it states it excludes existing Telstra customers.
But, are there any tips for (hassle free) tactics for existing Telstra customers wanting this deal?

    Cheers

    • +1

Port out and port back in is simplest. Get a $2 starter pack from somewhere

      • I have tried to go through complete post and have following question to clarify: if I ported from Telstra to Optus and again trying to port back to Telstra, will I be eligible?

        • Yeah people have previously said that's worked for them in the comments

        • As per JB Hi-Fi, you will need to wait 30 days after porting out from Telstra/Belong/Boost. But few have tried getting this plan on a new number (with a $2 Optus/Voda sim) and then moving this plan to the regular old number via Telstra chat.

    • I would like to know as well. It looks like if you are on Telstra prepaid (like I am), you would need to port out to a non Telstra network for at least 30 days?

      • Some have said they've only needed to Port out for a day

  • If I'm with another provider that uses the Telstra network, does it still count as an existing Telastra customer?

    • Yes I assume

      • +2

        solid reply, thanks

    • No.

  • I'm still with Optus for 3 months, do telstra pay out the cancellation fee if i switch??

  • Well just spoke to Telstra about switching to the $49 deal and got this repsonse

"That offer is for NEW customer only. If you will sign up to JB HI-FI, you are considered as existing customer already"

  • +1

Which is a better deal? Pixel 3 or p30?

    • Google Pixel 3 imo. The future of any Huawei device is in limbo atm with U.S sanctions against the company.

Google may drop support for the phone after the sanctions go into full effect. So potentially no updates, Google play store, access to apps + google services, google maps/YouTube etc.

  • What happens to the phone if you terminate the plan early? Will you be paying for the cost of the phone? Thanks.

    • No, but you'll be paying a whopping big cancellation fee. Not worth it.

    • Cancellation fee isn't that much. ETC for $65 JB plan is $390 and ETC for $45 JB plan is $270.

      • Are you saying we could sign up, and cancel next day. And pay only $199 + $65 + $390 for the phone?

        • Most likely a little less, as the $65 should be pro-rata'd

          • @doot: The full terms and conditions seems to suggest phone credit cancellation fee on top of ETC?

"If you cancel, recontract or move to an ineligible plan then you will need to pay a Phone Credit Cancellation Fee pro-rated against the remaining months on your plan, the maximum of which is set out in the table above. This is in addition to any Early Termination Charges (ETCs) set out in the above table and accessory payments."

  • Thanks.

  • An easy way to reduce cost to $49 will be to ask for OzBargain deal but gives 30 gb pm and pom if eligible.

  • +1

The deal is still running - effectively it is still a $500 gift card for the $65 for 12 month plan - I just used it on a discounted iPhone XR 256gb - down to $1299 with the $500 gift card made it $799. There is a list of about 10 things that they wil let you use the $500 on. The old deal finished yesterday and the new one came out at 5.30 last night. It only runs until Sunday

  • +1

    Pixel 4 around the corner.

A similar promotion deal for Pixel 3 XL and we have a deal ;-)

    • Why do people spout this nonsense? Obviously the next Pixel is coming later this year, phones have been on a yearly cadence for a decade now.

How does a phone arriving in four months help someone who needs a phone today?

      • I would jump on the deal if it was a pixel 3 .

I was saying that it will be more similar promos with pixel 3 (incl xl) because they want to clear the shelves of pixel 3(xl) before pixel 4 arrives…

    • +1

Last week I got the Pixel 3XL for $247.

Used the $500 gift card, along with price match to HN for Pixel XL at $1097 and $350 trade in discount to bring down the cost to $247.

Also downgraded the Telstra plan to $29 with 30GB of data ($39/30GB Companion plan with $10 port in discount) to make it even more value for money.

      • result may vary, I asked for the 29/m and got knocked back. Probably need to try with a different chat session

  • I'm not getting much luck asking for the $10 porting deal. Two Telstra staff have said that because I got the JB deal then I cannot get the $10 porting deal.

    • You can ask Telstra to upgrade to $69 plan with $10 discount ( this is a advertised offer) And this includes Peace of Mind data and unlimited international talk & text to 15 selected countries (i.e. Bangladesh, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Lebanon, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, UK, USA and Vietnam). But some have got $20 discount for the same plan. See here
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/7399969/redir

      • Do we need to negotiate this prior to signing on the JBhifi Telstra plan?

Edit: also, did your contract period change after switching to the $69 plan

        • I signed up to the Jb HiFi $65 plan and then changed the plan to $69 plan thru Telstra Chat.

Yes, contact period changes depending on when you switch plans. It is essentially a new contract with Telstra. If done on same day you sign up to JB HiFi plan, the period will remain the same.

          • @valra: i see… so you might have lengthened your contract period from 12 to 24 months

            • @ChaLuo: No. It stays 12 months

              • @mandelbrot: Correct - if the CSO has upgraded your plan correctly, you'll receive an email almost instantaneously with an attached CIS that shows 12 months.

You should also receive a separate 'Order Estimate' pdf via email, which shows:
Go Mobile Plus Special Offer: -$10
                Monthly Mobile Credit: -$10

Last deal from JB was Amazing. Signed up for the deal yesterday. Got the $65 plan and chose free Ipad 128GB Wifi. Sold Ipad for $500 and switched to telstra $69 plan with 60 GB data and Unlimited intl call that is offered at $49 for new customers. So i have to pay 49*12= 588 but since sold free ipad at 500 so net cost is 88 and monthly cost is $7.33

    • Wow. You sold the iPad within 24 hours.

      • Yes since i already had one. I put 50 dollar discount from the retail price so it sold quickly
