Google Pixel 3 64GB or Huawei P30 $199 Upfront on 12 Month $65pm Telstra Plan @ JB Hi Fi

1250

JB now has Google Pixel 3 or Huawei P30 for $199 upfront on the 12 month $65 plan.

Similar to the deal in May.
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/454635

Total Min cost for the plan is $780 and it includes 60 GB data, unlimited local calls and sms per month.

For total cost of $979 its a better deal than buying the phone outright and paying for a similar plan.

Its even better if you can upgrade the plan to BYO $69 plan with Telstra with $20 discount or $10 discount thru Telstra live chat.

Available to port-in customers and new Telstra customers only. Excludes Telstra Pre-Paid, Boost and Belong customers.

  • Thanks for posting this. I was just about to buy a 3 XL, but I can't justify $400 difference and settled on the 3.

Anyone have a link to the Critical Information Summary for this plan? The links at the bottom of the JB mobile site are a mess, and don't seem to correspond at all.

  • Also anyone concerned about the trade deal between China and the US regarding Huawei there is the upcoming G-20 summit in Japan where i'm pretty confident mr Trump will sign off on a new deal especially before the US elections kick off.

How many people now interested in trading their $500 gift voucher for the P30 at $199.

    • I am thinking about that. Will it be good if I get one of those phone or just stay with gift voucher. I am not in a need of phone at the moment and I also dont know where to spend voucher

  • I got the deal today and spoke to telstra to get the $59 60gb deal. Jbihifi also sent me a $15 voucher if i saved the digital receipt to my account

    • You may get $69 deal at $49 if you are lucky and got a good chat consultant

    • Have you received your $15 voucher yet? If so, what was the delivery method?

  • Hate how these good deals are for new or port ins.
What about the loyal customers that have been with telstra for years and want to upgrade.

    • Just get a new $2 optus SIM card

    • Port out to a prepaid SIM and come back, then. There's not much consideration given by telcos to tenure, really.

  • Sounds like a great deal.
I would take a ride on the Huawei phone. I have an Honor and I am kind of fascinated to see what happens when Huawei rolls out Hongmeng/OakOS later in the year. No panic here (yet)

    Hello
I ported to Telstra last week and got $500 JB gift card , and now I got to know about this deal.
I spoke to JB that I am happy to return my JB gift card and want to get pixel or huawei for $200 , they agreed for it.
Will it be a good move if so should I get Pixel 3 or huawei P30 or should I just stay with $500 gift card?

    • That's pretty damn good of JB! :)

In answer to your question however - completely up to you.
      * Do you want a JB Hi Fi card to buy something later?
      * Do you want the new phone?
      * Do you want the phone only to sell it? (in which case you'll want it to sell for at least $700)

      • Yea. I just tried and they agreed to take the gift card and buy phone for $200

I am not in a need of new phone , and I am also not sure if I will be buying something later.

I had in mind that I will sell the phone but still not sure how much I can sell easily.

If I have to return $500 gift card and buy a phone so which one huawei or Pixel?

        Not sure what to do.

        • That's something you may have to do your own research on mate! ;)

If going by JB's pricing, the P30 is more expensive, however I'm not sure what has better resale.
Try having a look on eBay to see where the actions are going for each phone.

Remember if you list with GumTree you should also get list/sell for free offers.

If the scenario is to convert to cash - you'd easily get $450 for the JB voucher. Sell the phone for >$650 and you've made bank.

          • @wellzi: Thanks for the recommendations mate.

If have to buy a phone for own use which one is better?

I am afraid of huawei , will it get any google updates later or not?

            • @Modesty: No worries! :) … also you're asking the wrong person … apple fanboy here! lol

As for Huawei's google update… I believe the answer is no more google updates.
As I understand they'll be releasing their own OS later in the year.

  • Should punters be as successful as @kirock on my Previous JB thread, then your situation may look a little like this:

    • buy Pixel/P30 deal
    • switch to $49 companion plan with $10 discount
    • sell Pixel/P30

    Outlay: $199+($39*12months) = $667.00
    Less Sale of Phone: $700
    Overall Position: $33 profit

    • Not as easy as you might think, both phone have bad resale value. I tried to sell my Pixel 3 brand new a month ago for $700, I don't even get a single offer.

  • Last weekend I signed up for the $65 plan and bought the Oppo Find X for $199.
I then got Telstra to drop the plan to $49 with same inclusions plus peace of mind data. Guy at JB said this deal should be available till the end of June.

    • Is this the $69 plan with -$20? Or is this a different plan?

      • The $65 plan changed to $69 plan -$20 yes. But same inclusions as the JB plan ie. 60gb.

        • I'm interested in getting this deal. Good to hear people can still get the lower plan. How many times did you try to get $49 plan?

          • @d4dog: I think telstra are on to it. i tried a few times and the best they could do is the $59 deal.

          • @d4dog: I bought iPhone XR 256 gb for $799 using the $500 gc on thurs as new telstra custoner. Went straight home and did the telstra chat thing and on my second try got the discount. Confirmed there were no fees or penalties for changing and asked for transcript of chat. Wouldn’t have believe it if could be that easy if I hadn’t done it myself. Saved almost $900 on the original price of phone plus plan

    • so basically after signing up with JB for $65 plan, we can simply live chat with Telstra to switch to $59 promotion plan without any fee?

  • Can we choose when to start the plan? i.e. Purchase now, but start the plan on july.

I managed to get the $49 60GB deal online after visiting JB and signing up.

    • Went to JB HiFi, signed up for the $65 plan with $199 up-front for the phone.

    • Got onto Live Chat about 30 mins later and used this as my first line:
"Hi, I just was looking at your website after starting a new contract through JB HiFi and didn't realise Telstra themselves were doing the online deals with the port in and activation credits"

    Then:
"I think I started the port over process already at JB Hi-Fi, I would like to upgrade to the $69/ per month plan though and to receive the $10 online credit + $10 new service credit"

They asked a couple questions to verify my ID etc and then said they should be able to do it.
He then came back and said that they could only get me to $59 because it was technically an existing service and that the port-in discount was an automatic thing that occurred during online sign up.

I pushed, politely, and said that it had quite literally only been activated 30 mins ago and asked if they could 'throw me a bone'. The guy ended up being good about it and manually overrode the system after talking to a supervisor.

The key was to be polite and I got there in the end.

    Happy hunting, peeps!

  • So I thought I would share my 2 cents worth. Went in and ported our 3 numbers across at jb today from vodafone on the $45 BYO plan with 50gb data. Got onto chat tonight and politely asked for a port in discount. After 30 seconds or so came back with a $10 per number discount, so we are now paying $105 per month for 150gb data and unlimited calls and sms.

Pretty happy with that. I also grabbed $600 in in gift cards. Total outlay of under $1300 for the year. Take away the $600 and we are paying around $700 for 3 services compared to 95gb for $260 per month with Vodafone

    Winning

    • A few days ago, you could have signed up for the JB hi-fi $65pm deal with $500 gift card. Then waited a couple of days and gone back to JB to downgrade to the $45pm plan at no cancellation cost. Then got onto Telstra chat and get the $10pm port in bonus.

You would have had $1500 of gift cards for 3 services instead of $600!

      • Can you still downgrade the $65 plan to the $45 from JB?

        • Yes

          • @mandelbrot: Do you just say you want to downgrade the plan? Would they ask any questions? I got the $65 plan last month, would I still be able to downgrade now?

            • +1

@greenie: Yes. Just tell them you want to change the plan to the $45pm JB hi-fi plan. Some stores might not do it, so move onto the next one.

Plans are changing in the next couple of days, so better get in quick just in case they are no longer available.

              • @mandelbrot: Thanks, will do this tomorrow!

              • @mandelbrot: Do you know if we could still change to the $45 plan today? Didn't have time to do it the other day :(

                • +1

@greenie: The plans are still on the JB website, so you should still be able to.

                  • @mandelbrot: No luck with this as they said I got a phone credit with the $65 plan so if I wanted to downgrade I'd have to pay back the phone credit :(

  • I know right!!! I must have been sleeping 🤣
Pretty happy tho on the $35 plan

  • +1

We just got the deal with the Pixel 3 (moved from iphone and oh-so-confused. Will take a few hours of sober child free time to fully suss it out). Went on Telstra chat 3 hours after signing at JB Hi Fi using the above techniques and wal-lah - $49 plan for both my husband and my new phone!
Many thanks to the OP and other posters.

  • thanks OP! managed to get the p30, and went on to telstra chat to get the $49 plan ($69 plan with $20 discount).
    cheers

    • Wow! I'm on my 4th agent and they all told me I can only get the $59 deal. sigh.

      All their answers are

"I would really love to but our system will not allow me to do so, I hope you understand."

  • Dammit, just noticed this deal ends today, looks like I miss out.

  • Got the plan and a p30 for my mum yesterday and she's really happy with it. (Despite I warned her against the Huawei issue)

That got me thinking (out of curiosity), is it possible to refund the p30 for a $999 JB gift card (as per receipt), and say pay a little extra to get another phone e.g. p30 pro?

Would JB "refund" the $800 giftcard balance that they applied as part of this deal?
