Telstra 12-Month SIM Only Plan $65/Mth 60GB Data + $500 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card OR Several Handset Offers @ JB Hi-Fi (Port-in Offer)

4710

Hi all,
Just ported in my number back into Telstra using this amazing offer from JB-HiFi.

Basically you get $500 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card (with no expiry) when you sign on to JB Hi-Fi Telstra 12 Months Plan for $65/month which offers Unlimited Local calls and 60GB Data.

Update (20/06): As per latest reports from the comments, this has been revised to $300 Gift Card as of today i.e. $500 offer withdrawn a bit earlier.

For those who would rather buy a handset, there are several offers as listed below:
(I managed to have a quick glance at their internal email, so sharing the love)

Samsung Note 8 - $199 upfront
Oppo Find X 256GB - $199 upfront
Huawei Mate 20 - $199 upfront
Samsung S10e - $399 upfront
Samsung Note 9 128GB - $599 upfront
Google Pixel 3 64GB OR Huawei P30 - $199 upfront - Update (20/06)

LATEST UPDATE (13/06),
From 13/06 to 16/06, instead of the $500 OR the Handset Offers already mentioned above, you can also choose to avail one of the following offers:
$0 Upfront: Hisense 43" 43R6 TV OR XBOX One X 1TB Console OR iPad 128GB 6th Gen (Wi-Fi model) - Update (16/06): This particular option is now extended to 19th June ans is also open to new customers

$49 Upfront: Apple Watch 42mm (Series 3)
$99 Upfront: iPhone 7 (32GB)
$799 Upfront: Oppo Reno 5G
Update (20/06): These options are now expired

All offers are for port-in customers only. [Having said that, I ported out of Telstra for couple of hours this morning and managed to port right back in using this offer without any issues - so worth a go!]

Note: From what I understand, this particular offer may not have any signage to promote it in the stores, so do try mentioning it to JB Hi-Fi staff in order to avail the offer. This offer expires on 23 June but if keen I would recommend getting it sooner than later (just in case it gets withdrawn earlier). Have a great day folks!

Edit: To answer a common query from comments - This Plan does not include Peace of Mind (POM) data OR $10 International Calling Pack

Edit 2: For those keen on scoring even higher bang for the bucks, for an extra $4/month you can easily upgrade this plan to Telstra’s $89 BYO plan (currently discounted to $69/month) via Online 24x7 chat, thereby giving you (hold your breath):

Extra 30GB data (total of 90GB data including Peace of Mind (POM) data)

Unlimited international talk & text to 15 selected countries (i.e. Bangladesh, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Lebanon, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, UK, USA and Vietnam)

International roaming - 2GB data roaming and unlimited talk & text in eligible countries (Argentina, Austria, Bangladesh, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Egypt, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Laos, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nauru, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovak Rep, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, UAE, UK, USA, Uruguay, Vanuatu, Vietnam)

If you do international travel and/or make overseas calls to the above destinations this is the BEST VALUE mobile plan ever (in my humble opinion) as you'll be effectively paying just $27.3/month for all of the above! Update (20/06): Gift card has now been reduced from $500 to $300.

  • Can I sign up a new number at JB to take advantage of this deal, then combine this plan with my current telstra number?

    • +1

Apparently you can. Someone did it above.

Edit: I also plan to do it too. I have a chat transcript from Telstra support confirming you can.

  • I'm in now with the $69 deal with 2gb roaming 90gb

  • Telstra $89/mth plan discounted by $20 credits to $69/mth
    Monthly Data Allowance - 90GB
Roaming Calls + SMS + MMS - Unlimited in Eligible Roaming Destination
Calls + SMS + MMS To international number - Calls & SMS- Unlimited in Eligible Destination
Roaming Data Allowance - 2GB in Eligible Roaming Destinations
costs effectively $27.33/ month or even $17.33/month

Optus $50/mth plan discounted by 20% to $40/mth
    Monthly Data Allowance - 80GB
Roaming Calls + SMS + MMS - Unlimited in Zone 1 countries
Calls + SMS + MMS To international number - Unlimited in Zone 1 countries
Roaming Data Allowance – 4 GB in Zone 1 countries
Also includes a free Google Home and 12,000 fly buys point
Plus a 5gb data sim at an additional $5 per month
    costs effectively $18.33/ month
or $23.33 per month with data sim with the data allowance increasing to 85gb

    • What you missed is, most of the people like me ported to $65 plan and then bumped up to $69, and got a $500 gift card.

    • Optus give you $500 gift card? Or the value of google home and 12,000 flybuys points equal that?

  • +2

Thanks OP, this is really an amazing offer. I was looking to upgrade my Optus plan, instead ported my number and bought Xbox One X ($499 deal) with gift card. So effectively I upgraded 300 international minutes to Unlimited, 30GB to 90GB+Peace of Mind data and International roaming. Considering all these I don't feel bad about paying out for my mobile contract, 9 months remaining.

    • +1

      Can't beat a free Xbox! :D

Hey guys, i just ported over from optus to this deal today, and on the second try got the $49 60gb plan

    • first try was chatting thru the contact us (clicking on a bunch of links about plans etc)
    • got told they cant do $49 as ive already ported over, the best they can do is $59 per month plan
    • second try i followed a previous post where they said go thru the main chat portal (just go to telstra -> sim only plans -> "CHAT" button (bottom right of screen)

    Chat operator was Jan Ira
    all i said:
"Hi there, i want to get the $49 BYO 60GB plan
Ive ported over from Optus, but saw the plan today so i want to move to that one"

after giving my details etc i got this:
"Right now, this mobile is on a JB hifi plan. We are able to put you on our $ 49.00 plan with 60 Gb of data . When do you want this effective?"

Jan then processed it, but dropped this:
"Thank you. By the way, since this is a JB hifi plan , they offered a free voucher and once you take it you are locked in to their plans. Was this offered to you?"

My response (which is all true btw)
"hi, yes, but nothing about a lock in was mentioned?"
"i thought i was signing up to telstra"
"I spoke with a telstra rep on the phone when i was at jb hifi doing who went thru the t&cs and nothing about a lock in was ever mentioned???"

After a pause, Jan simply replied:
    "Great"
"Then there should be no problem."

Jan then processed the order and after some time i got some sms from TelstraData saying peace of mind had been added, and my new allowance was 60gb.

Jan then said id get sent an order number later as the system was lagging or down, and i could order a transcript of the chat once it was done - i put in my email address but haven't received it yet which has me a tiny bit concerned!

Anyways hope that helps people out. Thanks to the original poster and all the people who have contributed :)

    • Thanks for sharing. So essential they cancelled the old plan and created a new plan/order for you, did they do another credit check on you? Or it is just an order of adding peace of mind data. Thanks.

      • No new credit check or anything

All seems fine got my first bill $49

Fingers crossed but seems like happy days

  • Will be a nice discount ($500) off my iPhone XI in September.

    • will it work for apple products?

      • works for anything in JB Store.

  • +2

I just got my first bill for the second phone number I have signed up to on this plan! Was actually charged $59 instead of $49. Lucky I have every said on the chat transcript. Resolving it right now with on telstra chat, doesn't seem to be an issue for them to resolve it.

Just a word of warning for others to keep an eye on what they actually get on their bill. AND save you chat transcripts/reference numbers.

    • +1

I just got the first bill and it's saying $65 (even though I've gotten them to change to $49/month). Billing period is for 09/06/2019 only (day I signed up). I need to follow up again.

  • Just got this back from Telstra chat

Yes, the plan is considered to be for new Telstra mobile that will take a new plan. Since the service was transferred to a JB Hi-Fi offer, the contract you sign with them will break so a termination fee might apply.

If the gift card is an offer with the plan, yes, that will also be voided.

    • +1

Just try again with a different support person. I have successfully changed the plan with no cancellation fees, then used the gift card the next day.

    • haha, better use the gift card first and then try again. Just to be safe.

  • Someone mentioned above that after you get the $65 plan, you can downgrade to the jb $45 50gb plan. Is this correct? I am pretty sure a JB guy told me last year, you can only move to a phone plan without incurring a penalty.

    • +1

It is because the expensive plans are discounted at the moment.

      • So you are suggesting get the $65 plan then go to another store and downgrade or can the store do that in one go?

    • +1

Yes. The JB staff have told me this several times. No cancellation fees. They did suggest waiting until the following week to do it though.

It's actually a Telstra policy for 12 month BYO plans, since you are recontracting for another 12 months.

      • Thanks for the answers.

  • +2

I have received my first bill from Telstra. Showing $49 with no cancellation fee. I believe the switch has been successful.

    • +4

That's great news and a good reason to have that green + next to your name ;) Enjoy!

  • JB Hifi told me that you have to buy the phone outright and use the $500 card on the phone
    So the S10e is $999 - $500 = $499
PLUS the $65 each month (maybe get the discounted $45/month deal) ($2059 over 24 months or $1579 if you're lucky to get it discounted)
    Seems expensive to me?

Woolworths will do the S10e for $47.74 phone included ($1718.64) over 36 months

    • +1

S10e is $399 with a 12 month contract. Read the deal description one more time.

      • I can see what the OP posted.. but in store the S10e is $999 which you get $500 off with the 'in store phone' credit
Where on the JB Hifi site is the phone going for $399?

        • The s10e is discounted down to $399. It is different to the $500 offer. Just mention it to the sales person. Be presistant.

        • Read through some of the comments. Your idea has been corrected many times

          • @ninnypoop: So it's a non advertised deal, and we have to ask for it…and have to rely on a telstra CSO to allow a plan change…

Woolworths deal still seems cheaper and less hassle for an S10

            • @Krondorf: Yeah, just go in and say I would like the $65/60gb/12 month plan which comes with the $500 GC.
And yeah, you gotta get lucky with the Telstra rep. Look to my other post, and many others, for info on that.
Not sure of the S10 deal. But this one is great considering the phone I'm looking at purchasing is $499. Which at the end of the day, after taking into consideration what I was paying on my old sim-only plan, ends up costing me $156 out of pocket over 12months. Plus I have more than doubled my data and am now with Telstra.

            • @Krondorf: How is Woolies deal cheaper?

Telstra’s deal (s10e) is only costing you $1179 over 12 months (without any plan changes).

              • -1

@TomGum: i thought that deal had expired..
but anyway… over 3 years of network access woolies is cheaper

if i'd know about the jb hifi deal a week ago i might have been able to do something with it.. but gotta wait a few weeks now (just did a month to month thing with optus)
and probably can't get to a store for another week or so

                • +1

@Krondorf: Lol. I duno what math you’re using. But this deal is a no brainer. Locked into a 3 year contract….. anyways…. trying to convince fools is like fooling yourself. No disrespect to you at all.

                  • @TomGum: that doesn't bother me too much… we aren't high speed/data users so we don't need such a high data plan..

                    36x 47.74 = 1718.64 with phone and network access

                    vs

                    36x $49(discounted) = 1764 + $399(outright phone price) = $2163

I know it's not quite right as you can change plan after 12 months to make it cheaper.. but for our use case scenario it suits us.. :)

                    • @Krondorf: stay away from 36months contracts. Amaysim or kogan prepaid is the way to go after the telstra 12 months is up.

                    • @Krondorf: That's some voodoo maths right there

                      • @mandelbrot: haha yeah as i said it's not quite right…

i'll see how things stack up in a week or 2 when we have time to get to the city…
this will probably be all over with

                        • @Krondorf: What you smokin man? Pass that doob around. Has to be good for you to consider signing a 36 month phone contract…data and calls are worth squat these days.

                          • @Bullion78: And yet people are lining up to pay $49+ for it?
For me personally paying the $20 per month for data & calls is fine whether it's on contract or not..
the $47.74 is less than i've been paying on Optus for pretty much the same thing for a Galaxy S7
So doesn't seem to bad too me..

And as per earlier and below, it seems telstra have cracked down on this and we can't change plans now

  • I already signed up for the 12 month SIM only plan with $200 jb voucher, porting my number from Optus to telstra. I spoke with Telstra about upgrading my plan for the $500 gift card, but as I already signed up the offer isn't available to me as im now a telstra customer. Would be keen to get that $500 JB gift card. Been trying to think of workarounds - anyone got any ideas?

    • +1

      no idea..

    • *I spoke with JB about upgrading my plan for the $500 gift card, not telstra

      • Don't think Telstra can help you here mate, completely upto JB I would say - but chances are very slim as the offer is for Port-Ins (i.e. new customers) only

        • How about something like this…

          • Currently on $45 plan with $200 JB voucher

          • Buy cheap new SIM card And activate it

          • sign up to $65 jb plan with $500 voucher

          • Currently at $700 of vouchers

          • Decrease $65 plan to $49 on new number as per others mentioning this as a possibility on Telstra chat

          • cancel original $45 plan, transfer phone number to new account and pay the $270 cancellation fee

          • end up with $49 plan and $430 of value (taking cancellation fee off from total voucher values).

One question is would they let me or is it possible to cancel the existing account and transfer its phone number to the new account which already has a new phone number assigned to it?

          • @mgexiled: Be content with what you got, if you don't further want to jeopardize Ur situation.

$65 to 49 pm may or may not happen, it's luck by chance.

Other thought, upgrade Ur current plan to $49 and try to get 10$ credit or on 45 per month plan.
Longer you wait for making this happen less chance going to be.. more ppl are trying to get this deal me Telstra may end up stopping this all together.

Can JB void my $500 GC?

    LATEST UPDATE
From 13/06 to 16/06, instead of the $500 OR the Handset Offers already mentioned in the OP, you can also choose to avail one of the following offers:
    $0 Upfront: Hisense 43" 43R6 TV OR XBOX One X 1TB Console OR iPad 128GB 6th Gen (Wi-Fi model)
    $49 Upfront: Apple Watch 42mm (Series 3)
    $99 Upfront: iPhone 7 (32GB)
    $799 Upfront: Oppo Reno 5G

I came across them when visiting store for my friend's port-in, so thought of sharing with the audience. Might be of interest to some of you depending on your circumstances and preferences.
Have a good one and as always - Enjoy!

    • That's a good deal for the Oppo Reno 5G

      • their RRP of $1499 is a bit of a stretch.

        • You can basically get it for $1069 -
Pay $799 upfront on $65 JB plan. Downgrade plan to $45 JB plan. Cancel plan and pay $270 ETC. Total cost is $1069. Plus you get the bonus Bose headphones.

    • JB Hi-Fi internal document confirming it: https://imgur.com/a/kyMbuF6

  • -5

Is this deal still running? Can only find the $500 gift card for 24month signup.

  • Anyone got any luck? It's my 5th time and still nothing. All they can offer is $59/month now. One of the rep said that they're not able to change it to $49 as the system would not allow them to do so.

On my 8th attemp, the rep said that they are investigating this matter as it is spreading lies to legitimate customers. $59/month is final offer

    • same situation here, should we just give up and sign to the $59 instead?

      • yeah I gave up. They probably are aware of the situation now and has educated themselves to not give the deal to late comers (which is you and me for now).

    Adelaide People

I was successful applying for the $65 12month deal at JBHIFI Melrose Park. Look for Jarred, really helpful bloke, who works there on most days. I ported out of Telstra 4d ago, I told Jarred this, and he said he will try his best and see.
He ported in 2 mobile numbers from Optus to Telstra two hours ago. I got one free iPad 6th Gen 128GB worth $579 and one $500 gift card. So, even new port-outs from Telstra can apply to port back in.

    • -1

Are you saying you're able to grab the $500 GC PLUS an iPad?

      • +2

I think he is talking about 2 port in and one got a gift card and other an iPad.

        • ahh got ya. My bad

      • He signed up 2 services. But at first I did think the same as you hahaha

  • update: my change from 65 to 49 plan, though approved by the online chat agent, was cancelled by Telstra after pending for 3 days.

They wont let me go on the 49 plan so its appears they are starting to curb people attempting to switch

    • How do you know it was pending ? I wonder if mine is pending or has finalised. I have received an email outlining my new costs (not a bill) and my Telstra account says I'm on the $59 plan, with peace of mind data etc. Hopefully I've slipped through!

      • They gave me an order reference number st the end of the chat session and if you google track order Telstra it'll take you to the order tracking page. I only knew this to be a thing because my account still showed 65/MTH plan so I called to enquire and they told me it was pending and to track my order online

      • my Telstra account says I'm on the $59 plan, with peace of mind data etc

        you are safe

        • actually no because my first bill came in today and says $67.1 owing ($2.1 pro-rata and $65 for monthly bill..)

  • just got told $49 is a no-go, and can only move to $59…..

i guess i'll take it first, then try again later

    • Can someone please confirm the $59 plan has the international call plan to 15 countries attaches thought the $65 plan offered by JB does not have any international calls allowance.

      • I went to the $69 - 10 = $59 then tried again on chat and got $89 - $20 = $69 with 2gb roaming

        • Yeah, but unless you travel a lot withing the allowed countries, is it worth to pay extra $10 for 2GB or roaming?

  • For those that managed to move from $65 60GB to $49 60GB, fingers crossed.

Telstra rep is not admitting mistake, but is saying
    1. Telstra won't change their contract, but its system will automatically detect, and remove discount (effectively making it $59 60GB)
    2. Telstra does not have such offers
    3. If there were such offers, it was "processed already"

    • My bill is already $49

    • Received and paid the first bill 2 days ago :)

  • My gf tried changing from $65 to $49 but couldn't do it to the way I did mine. First support chat said he'll transfer her to JB Hifi support team so she just closed the chat and went to another one. The second one couldn't do $49 but managed to put the discount down to $50 on the same JB Hifi plan. I am unsure how it works. She took a screenshot of the chat as the email transcript couldn't be sent to her.

I got my first $49 bill for me and just paid for it. Terminated my optus contract for this, but I only have 5 months left from it anyway.

  • -5

500 gift card comes with 24 month contract only as per the deal on the website
correct me if im wrong but if im correct then please update the title

    • Maybe those who can't read OP, shouldn't worry anyways. Ignore this post buddy, it's all just a fairy tale ;)

    • Sir/madam,PLS visit store and ask for deal as mentioned in the post. When they ask how to do you know, tell from a friend. That's it.

You have till 24th of this month. I have been there thrice for the deal.

      • thanks for the info
for sure i will visit the store
        just to confirm again
Ask for 500 giftcard deal on a 12 month plan right?

      • -4

as per website handset should be more than $999 to get 500 gift card?

        • You can get the $500 gift card as long as you signup for the 12 month $65 byo plan.

    • +1

Should put the answer to this question as a sticky as the first comment. Oh hang on - it's in the original post 😱

  • Anyone able to get this from a Gold Coast store?

    • See my link posted yesterday. That was from Harbourtown.

  • Has anyone had any luck getting this deal even though they are already with Telstra? JB staff are telling me I would need to move away from Telstra for a minimum of 30days. (seems sketchy?)

Any info would help as I'm keen to update to these.

    Cheers

    • Apparently you can port a different number over, and get Telstra online chat to move the plan to your existing number.

  • $65 plan for 24 months (or can cancel after 12 months without any penalty) to get $500 GC ? And can we use $500 GC to purchase iphone?

    • Can you be more clear please?

    • the $500 comes with the 12 month deal

  • Just went in store @ JB West Lakes (SA) and ran into an issue that no one else seems to have mentioned: I couldn't leave the store with the iPad today (wife wants a new one) because they have to wait for the port to be completed, and that it could take up to five days?

    • It's pretty quick, it's may delay bcoz of weekend. But should be up and running by Monday morning atleast.

    • +1

It has been mentioned before. Some have to come back for the gift card the next day

      • Ah, all good. Thanks. Wasn't sure if they were trying an alternate method to avoid people moving onto the other Telstra plans.

    • My port from Optus to Telstra tookk less than 60 seconds. Make sure you signup on a weekday, particularly if your with a MVNO.

      • UPDATE: Got the iPad, and the first Telstra person I chatted to tonight said they could do the $49 no problem - made sure to screenshot the conversation. I've just received the plan details via email, and data was reset. Wish me luck.
