Telstra 12-Month SIM Only Plan $65/Mth 60GB Data + $500 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card OR Several Handset Offers @ JB Hi-Fi (Port-in Offer)

4710

Hi all,
Just ported in my number back into Telstra using this amazing offer from JB-HiFi.

Basically you get $500 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card (with no expiry) when you sign on to JB Hi-Fi Telstra 12 Months Plan for $65/month which offers Unlimited Local calls and 60GB Data.

Update (20/06): As per latest reports from the comments, this has been revised to $300 Gift Card as of today i.e. $500 offer withdrawn a bit earlier.

For those who would rather buy a handset, there are several offers as listed below:
(I managed to have a quick glance at their internal email, so sharing the love)

Samsung Note 8 - $199 upfront
Oppo Find X 256GB - $199 upfront
Huawei Mate 20 - $199 upfront
Samsung S10e - $399 upfront
Samsung Note 9 128GB - $599 upfront
Google Pixel 3 64GB OR Huawei P30 - $199 upfront - Update (20/06)

LATEST UPDATE (13/06),
From 13/06 to 16/06, instead of the $500 OR the Handset Offers already mentioned above, you can also choose to avail one of the following offers:
$0 Upfront: Hisense 43" 43R6 TV OR XBOX One X 1TB Console OR iPad 128GB 6th Gen (Wi-Fi model) - Update (16/06): This particular option is now extended to 19th June ans is also open to new customers

$49 Upfront: Apple Watch 42mm (Series 3)
$99 Upfront: iPhone 7 (32GB)
$799 Upfront: Oppo Reno 5G
Update (20/06): These options are now expired

All offers are for port-in customers only. [Having said that, I ported out of Telstra for couple of hours this morning and managed to port right back in using this offer without any issues - so worth a go!]

Note: From what I understand, this particular offer may not have any signage to promote it in the stores, so do try mentioning it to JB Hi-Fi staff in order to avail the offer. This offer expires on 23 June but if keen I would recommend getting it sooner than later (just in case it gets withdrawn earlier). Have a great day folks!

Edit: To answer a common query from comments - This Plan does not include Peace of Mind (POM) data OR $10 International Calling Pack

Edit 2: For those keen on scoring even higher bang for the bucks, for an extra $4/month you can easily upgrade this plan to Telstra’s $89 BYO plan (currently discounted to $69/month) via Online 24x7 chat, thereby giving you (hold your breath):

Extra 30GB data (total of 90GB data including Peace of Mind (POM) data)

Unlimited international talk & text to 15 selected countries (i.e. Bangladesh, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Lebanon, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, UK, USA and Vietnam)

International roaming - 2GB data roaming and unlimited talk & text in eligible countries (Argentina, Austria, Bangladesh, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Egypt, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Laos, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nauru, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovak Rep, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, UAE, UK, USA, Uruguay, Vanuatu, Vietnam)

If you do international travel and/or make overseas calls to the above destinations this is the BEST VALUE mobile plan ever (in my humble opinion) as you'll be effectively paying just $27.3/month for all of the above! Update (20/06): Gift card has now been reduced from $500 to $300.

        • This, it's very store specific.

  • Clicked link, now 80gb/month but it's a 'Phone Credit' for $500 if purchasing over $999 instead of vanilla GC?

    • OMG

      • Frustration/Sarcasm detected!

    • +2

I think it may be an instore only promotion. Gotta ask for it - dont think its advertised. Right?

      • +1

        D'oh, thanks! I should read before posting…

    • It's in-store only. Go there and mention it.

I sneaked onto their internal email as well it was printed and pasted on the counter. It also said how this offer is almost below the line and they advised staff not to go any further with discounts.

  • I took up this offer this morning. Got my $500 gift card. Have tried twice so far with Telstra chat with no luck for a port-in credit. This was their response both times

‘Just to set expectation, the plan and offer is through JB Hi-Fi and Telstra is just the service provider. So to confirm the discount and inclusions is through them.’

    Anyone got any other ideas?

    • Did you manage to get the vanilla gift card? also, did you have to go for a 24-month contract or were you able to get a 12 month one?

      • Definitely 12 month contract. Just ask the manager. Also, the gift card is $500 on anything, and not just $500 off a phone over $999 like it has been advertised. I still can’t get a port-in credit though.

        • Hopefully we havent missed the boat. Im tempted to go in this arvo and grab it. Without the port in bonus, or even the switch to $49 plans, its still a good deal. Especially considering I need to buy a new phone anyways.

Keep us updated on how you go with telstra chat

    • Tell them to change your plan to $69 then goto Telstra web and look for their BYO plans. I saw that their $69 plan was discounted at $49

  • -4

Hey is there any way someone could post the original deal (screenshot)? It looks like it has changed on their site. It looks like it is now 24 months for the $500 credit, not 12 months.

    • +1

Ok, so you can write, now let's see if you can read :)

  • I got rejected over and over trying to get it changed to the $69 BYO with $20 discount but then were more than happy to change me to the $49 companion plan. Its the same deal except a little less data (30GB vs 60GB). I suggest asking for this if your getting knocked back.

    • They are happy for me to change but they said I’ll be breaking the jb hifi contract and will be subject to a $390 cancellation fee.

      • BS:) confirm with their supervisor there’s no cancellation fee. Changing to higher plan is not cancelling anything. Better for Telstra

      • I was just told the same when trying to change to the $39/30GB companion plan. They said it was the system telling them this when they tried to process the change :(

        Will try again tomorrow

      • Jumped straight back onto online chat. Second person changed the plan to $39/30GB. Said there was no cancellation charges when I asked about it.

        • any chance you have the agent's name?

    • Agent: Mark Kenneth was happy for me to change to BYO $69 after the $20 discount but NO to the $49 companion plan.. go figure, wish we could swap agents.

    • Try another agent after few hours. Diff agents has diff attitude. Some will ‘play’ with us for almost an hour. Just ask whether they can help. If not, ask for the supervisor to step in and tell many others have got the upgrade. No point arguing if the agent can’t help. Find someone else.

  • Anyone had trouble enabling visual voicemail on this?

My third time round ported out / in for this JB deal. Usually i just jump on chat and get the support person to enable but this time they tell me it is enabled… but its not working?

    Any tips?

    • Anyone? I've tried 3 times via live chat and still no go.

  • Anyone reading this on their new Pixel 3a??

  • +2

Thanks OP. Just sign up the plan and get $500 gift card.
Also price match the price for Huawei Mate 20 with the Mobilecity online offer as $600 with JB.
In total, I paid $100 to get the phone.
Will try to do a tax return later to get around $60 back.
After all, it means I pay $ 40 in cash to get the phone.

Got it! This afternoon I went in and jumped ship frm optus to the JB $65/month plan with $500 GC. Once I had the GC in my hands I left the store and jumped on 24x7 chat and asked for the $49 deal. The first guy I got onto surprised me by literally saying "you have the right guy for this" and about 10mins later he had the plan changed over. I asked to confirm there would be no charges from swapping out of the JB deal and he said "no, because it is all the same company", meaning telstra as the carrier. Since then Ive received an email verifying I am now on the $69/month plan with the $20 promotion making my monthly payments $49 for a 12 month contract. So its still a goer!

Now I am not sure if this is the case, but I used this link to access 24x7 chat - https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/sim-only-plans/49-c… - a little bubble popped up saying chat now. Im not sure if this links straight to promotional staff that have greater power than the average chat agent.
Prior to today I had tried 5 agents via the contact us 24x7 link who all said it was not possible to switch to the $49 because I would already be a customer after signing up at JB. However, the guy I spoke to to this afternoon had no dramas and was very happy to make it happen.

IF it helps, I jumped on 24x7 chat and said "Hi I signed up at JBHIfi for their $65/month plan which includes 60gb about 1 hour ago. Just now, I have noticed that telstra is also offering a plan for $69/month with 60gb - which is pretty much the same plan - but comes with a $20/month promotion. Could you please help me transfer to this promotional price."

Cheers Singhdeals for the deal.. Now to wait for my phone of choice to pop up in a EOFY sale and go price match at JB with the $500 GC.

For those who could only get swapped over to the $69 plan for $59, which was me, I went back on 24x7 chat today and said 'I just signed up over the weekend to the $69 plan and ported over from Optus and was disappointed that I didn't get the additional $10 credit for new activations. Was this something they could look into?'

They looked into it and said they would add the $10 credit, so its now $49 per month.

    • I’m not getting it. The guy said no port in discount for discounted plan. Bummer. I guess there’s no standard on how Telstra agents dealing with customers. If you get a picky one, well good luck to get help from them.
The system allow them to change the plan, but only if they want to do it for us. I guess Telstra has to change its culture.

The original post is wrong (or the offer has changed after this post was made).

The $500 gift card is only if you take the $65 plan for 24 months (not 12 and only if you buy a phone costing $999 or more).

The $300 gift card is also only available on the 24 month $65 plan, if you buy a phone at the same time for less than $999.

You get a $200 gift card on a 12 month plan, on a $45/month plan (no mention whether it needs to be spent on a phone or not).

Now that I read it again I'm sure the offer has changed since this post was made - because you already get $80 Gig with the $65 plan (instead of 50 Gig mentioned in the original postt) and you get 50 Gig on the $45 plan (without having to contact Telstra to get your plan 'upgraded').

    Can you please update, thanks.

    • This is an in-store offer which is different to the one on their website.

      • Oh ok. Thanks :)

Is there anywhere I can find the details without having to go in to the store and talking to a sales rep?

Because I'm wondering whether it's on in every store etc

    • Note: From what I understand, this particular offer may not have any signage to promote it in the stores, so do try mentioning it to JB Hi-Fi staff in order to avail the offer.

      • Thanks ron. That's what I thought. I'll go and show them this page and see what they say.

  • Managed to change to the $49 plan ($69 plan with $20 discount) two days ago via online chat, but now in my account, it still shows I'm on the $65 plan. Does anyone have the same problem?

    • Not me and just received the first bill of $49. Did you ever have any sort confirmation your plan change was done i.e a new order email etc?

      • only have a reference number from online chat. Didn't receive any confirmation email or text message.

        • That's odd. The way the CSO explained it to me was as if it was a new account i.e had to do another credit check etc. followed by agreeing to all the T&C's and than I got sent another Telstra order notification for the new plan.

        • Same here, only have an order number which can't be found on Telstra's website. Had the same thing done as Jonesy070707 below, new check, new T&C, etc. But received no confirmation email about the plan change or anything.
Having said that, I was at JB last night for another matter and the girl who signed me up asked me if had moved to $49 plan? she noticed it when she was doing the paper work, so it's obviously been processed just haven't received any sort of confirmation yet.

          • @alterego13: did she say anything about revoking your gift card?

            • @googoogaga: hahaha no, she sounded pretty chill about it. The JB staff I dealt with was pretty awesome and chill overall (a stark contrast to HN). And I'd already used the GC anyway.

          • @alterego13: update on this:
Managed to create the Telstra ID and checked my Telstra account and it is successfully showing $49 plan (60GB)

    • Same here as well. Plan still showing $65 with the "Oops…" message. Billable amount showing $65 but don't have the detailed bill yet.

  • What's the best way to port out quickly so you can port back in?

    • You don't need to do it quickly. I wouldn't risk it most JB reps told me it needs to be ported out for 30 days. Just get a voda/optus prepaid sim for $10 then do the deal on that new number so you can take your time. Then afterwards get Telstra chat to swap your existing service number with the new service.

      • Have you done the existing service number swap before? Dont want to risk being on a 12 months plan with a new number and Telstra not allowing it.

Tried to port out to Optus and back into JB Hifi and the reps rejected me :(

        • +1

          Yes I did it yesterday.

          • @[Deactivated]: I would double check this. Telstra chat and Telstra shop said when you take out the plan, this is the number you keep. No swapsies are actually possible.

            • @Donutpuss: Double check what? I've already had it done took about 30min on chat and 4hrs for the swap to finish. But thanks for the advise…

              • @[Deactivated]: Sorry was for zhenjie, but would like to know why Telstra are giving mixed answers. Can I ask what happened to your old contract if you exchanged numbers to the new one?

                • @Donutpuss: The old service (out of contract 12 month BYO) was simply cancelled.

                  • @[Deactivated]: Interesting. This is same situation as me but I've been told no chance hence can't take up the offer. OP says Port in only which isn't what this is. I guess I'll have to wait and see what is offered after 23/6. Talk about hit and miss from these guys.

                    • @Donutpuss: It is a port in. Honestly just do it and dont worry about the clowns. Get a voda sim and activate it, go get the deal and port over, spend the $500 gift card, jump on chat and tell them you want to cancel your existing service and swap the numbers. Piece of cake

kevsta89: Ok I've got an old phone service and a new phone service. I want to cancel the old phone service which is out of contract but then swap the old service phone number with my new service

kevsta89: So a number swap and a cancel

                      Agent:
So, what I understand so far is: You'd like your old number to have your new plan services. Is that correct?

                      kevsta89: Yes please

kevsta89: Or other way to say it is I want my new plan services to have my old number

                      Agent:
Alright. I'll be happy to help :)

                      • @[Deactivated]: I'd love to, however JB staff (3 of them) have said they check the 30 day minimum port over now. This is consistent with other people in this thread. That's a big fk about if it doesn't work.

                        • @Donutpuss: The 30 day minimum is for a port out port in scenario and is the whole purpose for doing it this way. It isn't really a big fk about. Infact you lose nothing other than the $10 credit for activating the voda sim if it doesn't work.

                      • @[Deactivated]: Lol, that rewording was hilarious

                      • @[Deactivated]: be careful, they are saying that I might have to have a pay out the new contract to switch my number to the old plan. FFS!!!

                        • +1

@Stuzi: you are switching your old plan /old number to the new contract/new plan. Don't see why you would have to pay out the new contract.

                          • @googoogaga: I was trying to switch new plan to old number and they said that I would have to pay out new contract to do that (because my old contract wasn't finished). It all ended well because the guy let me pay out the new contract for $180 and keep current number and plan and he threw in more data for free.

So I got OPPO Reno 5G for $991 ($799 for handset + $180 to cancel new contract + $12 sim card), $299 wireless headphone via redemption, kept my current $49 (which is actually $39 via $10 loyalty bonus and ends Nov 19, so no new contract) and got more data. Pretty decent deal in the end…. JB also took off $100 more because I got NBN through them.

                        • @Stuzi: What you've written doesn't even make sense. Why are you switching the new contract to an old plan?

  • I had Boost. I ported to amaysim to port back in to take this offer. Port failed :(

  • I changed over yesterday, but Optus have since called me and given me a great offer to get me back. If I was to break my contract ($390 broken contract fee) would I still be able to keep the $500 gift card?

    • +1

If you physically have the gift card, then yes.

      • Cool, I just don't want there to be a $500 bill for not fulfilling the contract. I'm happy to pay the $390, but was curious about the $500

    • What did Optus offer? I was considering moving to this deal from Optus

    • Wait a few days, go back to JB and get them to change the plan to the $45pm plan. There's no cancellation fee for moving to a new 12 month plan. The ETC on that is $270.

  • -5

HI, Is this offer still valid? I just clicked on view deal and it took to JB HIFI but the offer is $65 for 24 mnths + 80GB Data. JB HIFI will only give $500 gift card when you buy new handset worth $999 and above?

    • +3

Did you bother to read the OP and any of the comments or are still an infant used to spoonfeeding?

    • +1

Go in store and speak to the manager. It's not an advertised deal.

      • -1

        Thank you Jorr. Much appreciated.

  • Any issues with porting out to Kogan (Prepaid) and back into Telstra? I read somewhere that some other providers have a 30 day cool down period? If so, what would you recommend? Vodafone, Optus, others? TIA

    • I think it depends on your rep. Mine had me signed up, but when they noted I was only ported out for a few days, denied the gift card.

    • I just came from JB who said they check the porting over dates. Therefore, 30 day minimum. I asked if I could be done sooner and they said nope. I guess sign up a new number, then port original number over at a later date?

      • Could I ask which JB Hi-Fi you went to?
Maybe a little uneducated, but can you actually port the original number (outside Telstra, say Kogan) with the new sign-up number (Telstra)? I thought porting in would be for a new service line?

        • Orion at Springfield QLD

  • Any sim cards people recommend to purchase I can temporarily Port too?

Hoping to find something in store rather than order online

    • I got a Vodafone one but you must recharge during activation to get it to work.

I heard Optus you can activate without putting credit in.

  • Yup, still working.
I just ported in yesterday from Optus to JB and bought the Nokia 8.1 for $59 and just ported to Telstra's $69 plan.
I also confirmed you can move to a 24month mobile plan at any time.

Basically, if it costs more you can change to it at no cost. Rule of thumb but not always the case.

    • 24 months is a long time! Did you try to change it to another 12 month sim only plan?

      • I think he means he can change from the 12 month BYO plan to a 24 month mobile plan at a later time if a deal pops up while he is still contracted.

    • Nice of you to use the deal and not even up vote it!

  • Cheers OP

Ported from Optus today and changed to the $69 plan via chat.

No luck with the port in credit.

    • I hope you got it for at least $59? There should be no effort getting it "Upgraded" to the $69 plan for $59. Getting it down to $49 is the difficult bit.

      • It's the $89 plan that is discounted to $69. Could not get it for any less:(

Will try with another agent later.

        • Update: no port in credit but allowed to downgrade to $49pm, so that's what I did. 60gb is plenty.

  • Has anyone managed to get the 90GB plan for $59 (or less)?

  • Signed up with $65 JB plan with $500 gift card after 15 minutes,

No luck so far changing to $49 permonth plan with 2 reps

Currently decided to accept the $59 permonth upgrade with the rep

Hopefully try again tomorrow to get the $10 discount down to $49 per month :))

    • +1

Yep, I got knocked back on my first attempt too by a rep called 'John Edwards'.

      Will keep persisting.

      • Second attempt. They keep refusing to budge.

"I will be heartily honest with you tryonthis. I have a lot of customer today that encountered the same issue. However this the same thing that answers there enquiry."

        • If you get no luck with Telstra, you can go back to JB hi-fi and downgrade to the $45/50gb plan with no cancellation charges.

          • @mandelbrot: Thanks for the heads up! Any idea of how long I'd have to downgrade? Don't think I'll be able to get back to a JB HiFi for a while :/ Also, would I not lose my $500 gift card?

            • +1

@tryonthis: No time limit to downgrade, and you won't lose your gift card.

    • Honestly keep trying. Someone will eventually do it for you.

      • +1

I've got nothing else to do tonight! Haha. Will keep everyone updated. I'm half-tempted to accept the $59 (30+30GB) plan for now, and then keep trying for the port-in credit separate.

EDIT: Success!! A rep called 'Cherean' changed me to the $49 60GB plan!

  • -5

this is the BEST VALUE mobile plan ever

A rather sweeping and inaccurate statement if ever I saw one. Best for whom? Certainly not me.

    • And I strongly stand by it. I guess you would have (deliberately??) missed the rest of that line, so I'll put it again: "If you do international travel and/or make overseas calls to the above destinations". Tell me one single example of any plan across entire Australian telecom industry which is at par with Telstra's $89 Large BYO plan and costs effectively $27.33/ month or even $17.33/month for those who managed get Port-in credit to go with it.

Reply only with facts in a constructive way for the benefit of larger OzBargain community. If not, then just ignore my reply and move on. Thanks!

      • -5

There are far better and cheaper deals for folks who make international calls, as I do. Boost, Lebara, Optus. They're listed in the prepaid category all the time, I suggest you look in there from time to time. And don't presume to tell me how I should reply, who the hell do you think you are?

        • +2

Yeah, nah mate. I signed up for this deal and changed the plan to the $39/30gb byo companion plan, and also got $10 port in credit. So it's going to cost me $29 per month, or $348 for a year. Coupled with the $500 gift card, I made $152!

Show me any other plan that beats this!

        • +1

Wardaddy, did you forget to attend your math classes when you were a kid?

        • LOL…Don't stress so much Wardaddy. Like I said - you can simply ignore my comments (or this entire post for that matter), if you don't see any value in this, but please don't mislead others with your far better and cheaper deals rant with ZERO backing and comparative analysis vis-a-vis the specific Telstra Plan i.e. $89 BYO benefits (And we all know there's none atm, so just relax!)
