UPDATE : Guys from some comments below it seems like the US version of the Hub does not work in Australia due to different frequencies - so i'm asking the mods to remove this deal.

  • If you add this does it mean you get rid of the original one that came with garage door (operated by remotes)? Or is it just an add-on and you can use both? Wonder how I can check if this would be compatible with our door. Its cheaper than buying a new remote and would be handy being able to open/close from phone..

    • +1

It's pretty much just an IOT remote control so it'll work with your existing opener - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U86WHwOXFm4

Pretty good value considering a new garage door remote can cost over $30

    • Would just be an add-on. No reason why this would exclude your original remotes from working.

    • The box itself is a universal remote (though some older Australian brands may be too obscure or incompatible frequency).
So it is basically just another remote talking to the existing controls.

A lot of Australian doors won't have the optical safety beams though and roller style is more common here.

Also keen to know if you can add it to an existing B&D door system and put the remotes away, for good.

    • I have B&D system also. Don't want to spend $300 on their smartphone opening system, wondering if this one will work?? Much better value. We have the newer remotes which you can't even buy generic ones for so you have to pay $100 each.

      • I have the same system and same remotes. House built 6 months ago. So I’m thinking this will be my answer. Have purchased and will report back if it is.

    • +1

I bit the bullet. For $64 it will add another level of certainty and allow for remote monitoring. Why not.

      Thanks OP.

Placing an order too. I just watched the video, should work just fine. I found a comment on Whirlpool by the Chamberlain rep saying that this and the B&D product are essentially the same thing.

Check your garage door opener - if your door opens/closes by shorting the terminals at the back (find out from the manual which one's first) this opener will work for you.

Apologies, this isn't case with this opener, it connects via the program button on the opener

  • Yep also interested in compatibility with my GDO-6v3 Easy Roller

  • Think you have to pay to have it working with Google Assistant and Alexia.

  • i guessed this won't work with rolling garage, can't see how you can install the sensor

  • Sounds great, but what worries me is that when you link the opener with the device, it will also reset the existing remote control frequency. The manual doesn't specify whether the remote will need to be reset as well or unusable anymore. We still want the remote though.

    • +1

      Most pair with 4+ remotes.
Plenty of older styles won't work with it though and their compatibility guide is no help with Australian brands which used old tech a lot longer than the USA did.

If it's the old brick box remote then forget it.

See the whirlpool thread.. saying not compatible in AU
    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2680424

    • Damn! Just cancelled my order, thanks for the alert.

Looks like Bunning's doesn't even sell these in AU either. Now back to square one.. I need a solution like this but not paying $300 for B&D system.

      • Gogo gate works well for me. Can run up to 3 gates/garage doors

    • Yes. Different garage door remote frequencies between the US and Australia.

  • Are safety sensors easy to install? My garage doesn't have one.

Another option is the Garadget which i bought from ebay US and several friends purchased it after seeing it in action and not had any problems installing it on many different systems. Great forum community and quick response from company.

    • Thanks Westham! Garadget looks like a winner!
      https://www.garadget.com/

      • It's never let me down in the few months I been using it.

    • Another plus for Garadget

    • Do you remember how much you paid?

      • Check eBay item number:273658481081 that's what i got. Looked like it was new despite being sold a refurbished.

        • Saw that previously and noted it listed as 'refurbished'
Anything local is 169 to 220

  • So the conclusion is that this is not compatible with AU garages? Also is this HomeKit comparible?

  • Please note that this product is not compatible some of Chamberlain Merlin products. I had to return it as it did not work with my Merlin mt60p.

  • I thought might be on to a winner here with this…
Too many times garage door as been left open or worse, I've not been able to remember if I closed it or not and spent worrying hours at work or out of town stressing whether I've closed it or not.

    • Consider a Xiaomi door sensor. You'll need the gateway though.

      • Ive got one set up on the bottom of the roller specifically for this (plus using Home Assistant to do warnings via google home speakers about it being open at sunset, or for 30 minutes duration after sunset).

you need to be careful about position of the magnet and reed switch given the door and frame are metal. But it works for me.

  • For anyone else wanting one it seems like this is the best option at the moment: https://www.catch.com.au/product/ismartgate-lite-standard-ga…

Strange how we can't get a device like the one in the OP at a more reasonable price that works within AU. But the ismartgate gets good reviews so seems like a good alternative.

  • Mine arrived today. Will install on weekend.
Oddly, I only just found out that you can close with google assistant, but not open.
But in the end, I purchased this for the notifications on the phone—to know if I left the garage open.

    • What make/model is your garage door opener?

  • Curious to know if this is actually compatible with Australian garage systems - there are conflicting info on compatibility. Does anyone actually have this installed and working? Thanks.

    • I tried and failed. Mess around with it for an hour before giving up and sending amazon an email. No response yet.

  • should have read here before ordering mine. after playing with it for hours managed to pair it with my chamberlain cs60evo (2016) model. now it (ios app) sends the notification as well as alerts if the door is left open. but does not open/close via app.
