Updated, this is my first post so I'm new to how it works.

      • +6

I think this is a great first post. Welcome. :)

  • +2

Wow, this is an amazing deal! I think I paid about $150 for this, yikes.

  • i thought $79 was a good deal. Thanks

    • And indeed it was. I was going to grab it on Amazon a few weeks back at that price, but came across this eBay listing and couldn't believe my eyes. There's no way they can be making a profit, and I don't understand how they can offer free shipping.

      • That's why if we wait some good things happen, but i never would have thought this would've gotten cheaper like this

        • +1

I also saw Return of the King for around $67 from the same eBay seller a few weeks ago, but stupidly didn't buy it then.

          • @navamac: I think everyone will be on the lookout for those now. Has FOTR ever gone on sale?

I noticed there is also a black 6 record one for The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - what's that one?

            • @cyrax83: FOTR is long sold out I believe. I think it would still be worth a shot checking on eBay every now and then for any leftover stock.

The black 6 LP trilogy edition is just the regular soundtrack edition for each movie (with a shorter tracklist, under 80min each movie). This complete recordings edition I posted has all the music recorded for this movie, being over 3 hours.

              • @navamac: Can't they just produce more?

                • @cyrax83: I think a re-release of FOTR is inevitable, due to the massive demand.

          • @navamac: don't think anything else has been on sale? Is the middle trilogy bad music lol

            • @bailbondsh: I've just seen ROTK on sale, not the black 6 LP trilogy edition yet. What do you mean by middle trilogy?

              • @navamac: there's a triology set that includes the whole soundmtrack on 6 black LPs instead of the sets.

                • +1

                  @bailbondsh: https://www.amazon.com.au/LORD-RINGS-OST/dp/B07J3H7F8B/ref=p…

Can confirm whole trilogy on black lp's at 160 on Amazon. Probably a better deal than this one in terms of what you get since most people want the FOTR or ROTK music. At $48 delivered though, won't say no to another LOTR collectable.

                  • @Lighter Fluid: The Black LP's (OST) is not the complete collection from what I understand.

                    • +1

@cyrax83: Yeah so it's basically 90% of all the tracks used in the movies, but the true extended edition stuff (so the individual kits) contain ALL the recorded music for the film.

Again my point though, people want the iconic tracks they can identify from the first and last films, two towers was kind of a confusing mid ground in terms of what you get in the music specifically.

The black set will be more than enough for 99.99% of people wanting to listen to LOTR music, but if you're a true collector then you'd have to go grab all the individual movie kits.

                      • +1

@Lighter Fluid: I'm just interested in music and even more interested in stuff that didn't make the film tbh

  • Damn, I don't even have a record player but very tempted just as a collectible.

    • I was just going to say, even if you don't have a record player this is totally worth the money as a collectible. It's such an impressive, weighty box set and is even numbered out of 8000! Definitely go for it, you won't regret it that's for sure.

      • Packaging for these LP sets can be pretty rough, especially if they're getting shipped in from overseas. Purchased the FOTR set for my sister's birthday in December last year and although the lp's were fine the packaging outside was abit banged up. Made it difficult to use it as a collectable.

Yo DJ - spin dat ol’ Elven shit!

  • thank you, purchased!

  • tempting and I don't even have a record player. Is it better than spotify? lolz

edit: bought. It's actually a great soundtrack

  • Love the way you only seem to get the two towers discounted. I've bought the two towers on kindle for $1 a while back and the other two are still refusing to drop in price. Bought this anyway, its a great price!

  • Someone bought 4, flipper alert. lolz

    • Yeah 4 out of the last 6 too :(

    • how can you tell if someone bought 4?

  • Seems to be out of stock now :(

  • +1

38 sold since the deal was posted 90 minutes ago. Also a big far queue to the person buying 4.

    • +3

Why can't they buy 4 if they want?

      • +3

They'll just try flip it for a profit

        • -1

          And?

          • +3

@Drpepper666: We know who bought them then lol

            • +1

@bailbondsh: Na I don't care but I don't understand why there is anything wrong with it.

Did you know stores often buy goods at a cheap price (they call it cost price) and sell it for a higher amount. Does this outrage you too?

          • @Drpepper666: Broden has a new account? Huh

      • They can - I just have little doubt they're going to flogged off again at twice the price.

        • New ones have just gone up on Discogs for $130. Probably not a conicidence

  • Out of stock now :( Good deal, thanks OP

  • The LP's look nicer in the pic than they actually are. The blue color is lighter and looks a bit cheap oh well.

    • +1

They look pretty premium to me. Also if they are dark blue, vinyl people have a name for them.

Edit: They are just popular among collectors, nothing special in terms of quality apparently.

      • But the 180gm means the sound quality is better, right?

        • You are asking a CD person. Better to ask a vinyl person.

        • Not necessarily. 180gm is just the weight of the record, so they are thicker and more tolerant to warping in heat.

          • @navamac: Ah understood. So it's more of a longevity thing, as opposed to a quality thing? good to know. I like the heavy feel of them, that's for sure!

  • +2

There's now another 27 in stock!

    • Confirming. I just bought one

  • Decent deal, but just as an FYI, RRP is super inflated, Amazon have it for $79…

  • Sold out again, darn :(

    • +1

It says more than 10 available. Give it another shot mate..

  • 8000 copies so it is not very limited. If you plan on flipping this, I wouldn't bother. It won't increase in value.

Many people say the packaging and pressing is terrible too.

    https://www.discogs.com/Howard-Shore-The-Lord-Of-The-Rings-T…

    • How rare would a limited edition have to be to go up in price? Generally speaking of course..

      • Depends if the artist has enough of a cult following. King Gizzard early small runs under 500 can go for over 1000 easily. I'd say anything over 1000 copies will generally not be worth reselling, unless the artist is somewhat popular.

  • +1

10+ have become available! Just refreshed the page and looks like they've updated stock :)) I grabbed one!

  • Does anyone own this collection? if so, can you comment on the quality of the vinyls / the sound? :)

    • Probably shit. These things are usually pressed with the idea that those who buy it won't ever listen to it and it'll just sit as a display piece forever.

EDIT: https://www.discogs.com/Howard-Shore-The-Lord-Of-The-Rings-T… Looks like it is in fact a poor pressing.

      • So you don't own it? I'm curious to hear from actual owners

        • See my edit :)

          • +1

            @Broden: ah thank you!!

hmm, differing opinions. a few saying there's "rushing" sounds and inexplicable noises, and then one person saying:

"Okay, so, everyone saying the quality sucks? I am curious if that's not a problem of them having poor systems now, because everyone I know who owns these sets and have good setups say they are great."

Guess I'll have to wait until my copy arrives, to judge. Praying it's good quality!

And thanks @broden for the link :)

            • @redgymhero: Yep, I bought it even knowing it might be a poor quality pressing. Price is too good and if it ends up being dirt I can just resell it to someone else.

              • @Broden: Yea that's a good point. Worth the 'gamble', being that good of a price. Hoping we'll both be pleasantly surprised! :)

            • @redgymhero: please let us know what they sound like!

              • +1

@bailbondsh: You bet I will! Estimated delivery is 24 June - 23 July, sooo might be a while. But will let you know :)

    • +4

I own this and played it the whole way through. Sounds amazing, nice poly-lined sleeves and great quality box. Maybe I was just lucky with my copy, but I don't get what everyone else is complaining about.

      • i've looked inside looks nice, blue vinyl doesn't look as good as the picture but happy with everything else. Just don't have the setup to play it yet.

        • Ahh okay. So you own a copy yourself? thats amazing. I'm not too flustered about the quality of the blue, as long as the sound is good and the packaging is nice, I'm happy!! Any particular setup you're looking for?

          • @redgymhero: i'll eventually get around to playing it when i know where i'm going to permanently live ;)

      • OH that makes me so happy to hear!!! thank you so much for sharing. I was hoping that was the case. Did you order your copy from this eBay seller? A lot of the eBay reviews for them say their packaging was really good, so the items were received in excellent condition, so that's always a plus.

        • +1

Yep, I ordered from the same eBay seller on the 24th of May, and received it on the 7th of June. I actually think it could've been packaged a bit more secure, but it came in pretty much perfect condition except for one small bumped corner.

          • @navamac: Have you listened to it? What’s it like? Do you think it better score than the other movies?

            • @Ozjoey: I have listened to it and greatly enjoyed the experience. I find that I enjoy music more when the house lights are turned off to get in the proper mood.

Well, it's subjective whether a score is better than others, but I do think Two Towers has some fantastic music and is an amazing movie.
Standouts from this soundtrack, off the top of my head, are Evenstar (of course), Arwen's Fate, The Dead Marshes, The Last March of the Ents, and The Tales That Really Matter, which features the Shire theme.

              • @navamac: Thank you for the song listing. Looking forward to it :)

          • @navamac: Oh nice one! thats pretty fast shipping :O fingers crossed it comes that quick for me too haha. and one small bumped corner isnt tooo bad at all, considering it came from the US huh?

  • +3

Thanks OP - my daughter loves vinyl so grabbed one

    • +1

      The dad we all deserve!

  • 0 Available. Ozbargained!!!!

  • -1

More than 10 available now!!! Get onto it. Bought one.

    • ahaha you must have been happily surprised :)

      • Very surprised, disappointment turned to happiness very quickly!

  • Price is now $44.13

    • Excluding GST

    • Yes, but you haven't accounted for GST

      • Ohh, my bad. Missed that

  • Evenstar is my fave LOTR track, so ye have it.

  • Perfect for scratching!

  • I could not resist, ordered! Thanks OP!

  • My girlfriend was more excited about this than I was so bought it. Thanks OP.

  • +1

I thought this would have way more up votes. What's wrong with you people?

  • +1

    Don't tempt me Frodo!
    But also… I bought one!

  • What the hell? The seller refunded my money??? Anyone else?

EDIT: They didn't have stock. Sigh!

    • When did you order?

  • For more digitally inclined folk, I remember there were very nice DVD-Audio relases of the music from the 3 LOTR films (24b96KHz 2channel and 5.1 from memory). Unlike SACDs they can be played in any standard DVD player (standalone or desktop/laptop drive).

  • Got the confirmation email saying they've sent it.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_The_Lord_of_the_Rin…

The scores for The Fellowship of the Ring and The Return of the King won Academy Awards in 2002 and 2004, with The Two Towers not being nominated simply because of a rule of the Academy to not nominate sequel scores that reuse old themes, a rule that was undone specifically as to allow for the nomination of Return of the King. Interesting!

  • Back in stock!

  • @navamac can you please check your copy to see if it's the Rhino version or another? Best way is to check barcode, and where it says printed/manufactured anywhere. Thanks!
