What's the best way to get 30 days worth of US data? 24 day + 3 day + 3 day?

    • 24days+24days
      10gb +1gb data only

      or 24+3+3
      10gb+500mb+500mb
      seems charging the same price?

      • Went to edit but can't now that you replied… pretty much discovered the same.

EDIT: Actually, given 3 day / 500mb ($2.40) is the only available option, would probably be better off getting a second 24 day (1gb @ $5.70 or 3gb $10.20), as it will be shared between the 4 SIMs…

        • edit:1gb for 24days=5.7
          so 0.3 more than 500mb+500mb

ya depends on how much data you will need at the end

  • Hey Kablammo,

There are many ways to skin a cat! It depends on how much data you need!

You could go 2 x 5GB 15 Days for example.

The overriding factor here is getting the advance purchase discount. If your travel dates straddle 30 or 90 days in advance the price will change significantly.

Other than than, there isn't a huge leap in pricing between the duration of plans.

    I hope this helps.

if you need anything else, please let us know.

    Regards,

    CallCloud

    • Cheers, the whole trip is currently >90 days so that's not a problem.

Appears the USA data plans only come in 3 and 24 day variants though?

      • Ahh yes,

We haven't got all of the available plans listed on our website. They can be accessed in full by downloading the Flexiroam X App or checking

        https://www.flexiroam.com/pricing

There are over 5000 plans, so we've just tried to cover the main ones.

We've also has some 'constructive' criticism here at OzBargain regarding the flow of the website, so we are currently changing to a calendar style booking system. It's a fair bit of work though… arrrgh..

        Thanks again!

        CallCloud

        • Ahh, wondered why they were on the FlexiRoam site but not yours. Will have to suss how the advance purchase stuff works then, cheers!

  • I can not figure nd which countries are included in the Europe plan or the greater Europe plan. Can you advise? I’m going to Sweden, Estonia, Finland and Russia. Thanks 💐

  • OP - a bit confusing how the advance purchase discount works. Is this on the website at all? If the prices listed on the website require you to buy 90+ days before travel, then you're being a bit misleading. Also a pretty interesting business model, requiring people to get your app before they can view the rest of the important info/options.

    • Hi epicfacepalm,

We'll accept that criticism, as stated above we are trying to transition our website to a better version, which we are doing, but the terms of the advance purchase discounting structure are clearly outlined in the Starter Kit product description:

      Local Data Plans
63 Local SIM Cards in one!
      Affordable individual country access
      Massive discounts for advance purchases:
      Early Bird (90+ Days)
      Travel Next Month (30+ Days)
      Last Minute (<30 Days)

      https://callcloud.com.au/products/flexiroam-x-global-roaming…

The App is Free, so I don't quite understand the last criticism.

All of that said, we do get it.

We aren't trying to deceive people here, it is quite a different product to what is out in the market at the moment and hopefully it will be days before we have a really nice and clear site that gives you what you need.

We do appreciate the feedback though!

      Cheers,

      CallCloud

      • Yes, I get that there's a discount system, and it says that in the description of the Starter Kit. My question is, how is someone going to know what it costs if you're not in the early bird time frame? Download the app?

As for the app being free, I think you're having a laugh if you think people are going to download your app just to see what your products cost. Even for established businesses, you have to incentivise people massively to get them to use an app or a service generally - you probably know these as customer acquisition costs.

You're also displaying prices in USD despite being an Australian business, with a website on an .au domain. There's no mention that these prices are in USD until you get to the checkout page.

Good on you for having a crack and trying to bringing a new product to the market, but Ozbargainers are some of the most demanding customers out there. This is obvious when you look at the reaction history to your posts on this website. Potential customers want to be respected - every barrier there is, whether that's pricing, availability of information, ease of use, etc., decreases the likelihood of you getting a customer massively.

        • +1

Wow, I thought the price is in Aud. Thanks to bring this up.

        • I completely agree with you regarding the value of OzBargainers, we should be paying them for the advice! Err hang on I shouldn't even suggest that!

We do have both of the other pricing options available on our website, and indeed currently have another promo running here on our Last Minute Plans: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/461032

I agree with you regarding the download of the App, and this in part why we are running such deep discounts on the Starter Kits. We'd rather give the cost of acquisition back to the customer.

The USD thing is fair enough. Its very difficult to manage currency risk with such a complex product set and with very tight margins. Of course our aim is to be global and all of our customers will have to change currency at some point, but point taken re labelling. We'll do better there. On thing we'll add is that we don't have to charge GST which helps balance the ledger and we now absorb postage too.

It's been a short, but busy few months and we are trying to balance providing great customer experience with new sales to feed us as well as developing the website. We've enjoyed the Ozbargain experience and plan to continue contributing to the community even if its our competitors deals.

I hope next deal we can earn a +

          Cheers!

  • I am also a bit confused about how it works and why there are different types of sim cards. I am going to Japan January 2020 and need to use internet whilst there for 15 days at least 7 gb, which one I have to choose? And if there is expire date of the sim etc. Do I have to get 4 items to get the discount? What if I need more days?

    • The different SIM Cards are purely for choice. They are all the same functionally.

If you don't have the newest iPhone don't worry too much about eSIM, although they are the future.
The microchip is a 0.03mm SIM 'sticker' that affixes to your normal SIM Card. It enables you to switch back to your home SIM via the Flexiroam X App.
A SIM Card is just normal SIM.

      The SIM doesn't expire.

For this discount yes you need to purchase a family pack.

If you need more data or days, you can easily purchas them via the App, either before you travel or whilst you are abroad.

      I hope this helps.

      Regards,

      CallCloud

  • I got a sim from you when it was click frenzy. I’m going to Hawaii in 98 days. When I get around to inserting the card do I basically enter all my trips an buy data. I have at least 6 international trips over the next 10 months. I f prepay for Hawaii now, but decide to have another trip in between, will the new (sooner) trip eat up my data at a more expensive, non pre pay rate? How does the plan know which data purchase to use?

    • Hi Voteoften,

Thanks for the order. Yes, that's exactly what you can do. I'd suggest downloading the App and activating your SIM and the you can play around with the App to see the best plans for your upcoming trips.

Each Local Data Plan is purchased for a set quantity and time. The plan will activate at 00:00 local time on the the chosen start date (or when any of the data from the plan is shared with another user).

If you wish the cancel the plan you can do so at anytime prior to it activating. In this event the credit for the plan will be returned to your 'wallet' for future use.

Each Local Plan is distinct from other so it won't activate if you happen to go to Hawaii early.

We also have Global Plans that work everywhere, are much more expensive and they don't have set time periods, but you can explore these in App, I don't want to confuse things further.

I hope this helps, if you need any assistance just let us know.

      Regards,

      CallCloud

  • And why is Saudi Arabia even listed? My understanding is that they do not issue tourist visas and that getting a business visa is almost impossible.

    • We had Iran up until quite recently. Flexiroam is very popular in the Arab states mainly due to some of the rather monopolistic telcos they have operating there. It seems a shame though, the data rates there are pretty good!

I've just setup this service and though it’d be good if I explained what Cloudcall is and how it can be used.

First off, CallCloud is a reseller of Flexiroam and Flexiroam sell travel Sims and data packages for use while you’re on holidays overseas.

What makes Flexiroam different from other travel SIM sellers, is that you use a ‘universal’ SIM and the Flexiroam app to purchase data plans for the countries(s) your visiting. It’s important to note that you retain your SIM for re-use and by doing so Flexiroam can provide lower cost data packs.

When you purchase a sim from Callcloud/Flexiroam you have a choice of three SIM’s:

Regular SIM’s called ‘X-Sim’s’ – Are your standard SIM-cards that ‘pop-out’ as mini/micro and nano sizes. When you arrive at your holiday destination, you take out your Aussie sim, put in your ‘X-Sim’ start-up the Flexiroam app and your away.

Next are ‘X-eSIM’ – These are electronic (not a physical SIM-card) and allow you to switch phone providers electronically. They’re only in the latest smart-phones.

The last type is the ‘X-Microchip’ – These piggyback on top of your existing SIM, are wafer thin and allow you switch from your Aussie sim to your travel microchip SIM, using a setting on your phone. The downside is that they’re fragile.

Once you receive your SIM-Card from CallCloud, you then download the Flexiroam app, activate your SIM and insert it into your device. You can now purchase data packs and you have a few options for doing this.

The data packs are setup into three types:

The first type is ‘local’ – If you know where you’re going and how long you’re going to be there, these are the best value for money. Choose the data pack and time length that best suits you.

The second type is ‘region’ – These are typically three or four countries for which you can purchase a single data pack and use throughout the area.

The last is ‘global’ – These are significantly more expensive but give you coverage in every country that Flexiroam offers. Great for globetrotters.

The data pack pricing come in three ‘ranges’ and is based on how far in advance you buy your data pack. Basically, the further in advance that you can buy, the better discount you’ll get. It’s split into three ranges:

1st - At least 90 days before leaving on holiday – You’ll get heavily discounted rates, up to 70% off the ‘last minute’ rates.

2nd At least 30 days before leaving, but less than 90 days - You can still get a good discount, up to 50% off.

3rd – Less than 30 days - If you’ve left it to the last minute to buy your data pack, you’re going to be paying the ‘peak’ rates and it can be quite expensive.

Once this is all done, you switch to your Flexiroam SIM by doing so on the app and activating roaming. Your device will then connect to the local mobile-phone provider of the country that you're in, and you'll have internet access.

CallCloud often posts specific discounts for data packs and you purchase them via the CallCloud website using the supplied coupon codes.

Flexiroam also offer discounts, typically via notifications on their app, so it’s best to compare both before buying.

Hope this helps to get you going.

    • Thanks for the clear explanation.

    • Cheers Bob!

  • Is it possible to receive incoming calls? I mean is there any DID number for the SIM?

    Tnks

    • Hi Kuikui,

No, the SIMs don't have a DID.

There is an outbound calling function that is explained in a little more detail here:

      https://callcloud.com.au/blogs/travel-hacks/flexiroam-x-voic…

There are also many "2nd line Apps" out there that allow you to rent a DID and they will use your data connection (either mobile or WiFi) to receive calls.

Skype, Burner, TextNow & Hushed are some exmaples. (TextNow even gives you a free US number)

We hope to be able to announce a partnership in this space soon, and will put up a Blog post once we do.

      I hope this explains things.

      Cheers,

      CallCloud

      • thanks mate!

  • Seems the standard SIM card SOLD OUT

    • Hi again!

No, that's just our reminder to order more! 1 box left!

      Thanks for the heads up!

      CallCloud

      • thanks

  • How to use Flexiroam sim/microchip?

Do you buy the start kit and then top up the data plan?

    • Hi y,

Correct. There is small amount of Global Data included in the Starter Kit (100MB), with a 365 Day expiry.

The SIM/microchip never expires, and you can top up data whenever you wish via the Flexiroam X App.

Most of our customers purchase the much cheaper Local Data Plans for individual destinations or groups of them. These data plans are purchased for a specific bundle of data & time set time period:

      Typically:

      500MB/1GB/3GB/5GB/7GB/10GB

      For

      1/3/5/8/15/24 Days

The Local Plans are discounted quite heavily if bought in advance.

30 Days (Travel Next Month Plans)
      90 Days (Early Bird Plans)

Most of our customers leave things to the last minute, so we are running another promo (still a week left) for the more expensive Last Minute Data Plans (plans bought (<30 Days in advance)

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/461032

The Local Plans can also be cancelled at anytime before being activated. The data pack is refunded as credit into your account.

You can buy data directly through us, but typically most customers will buy directly with Flexiroam via their App.

I hope this helps, if you need anything else, just let us know.

      Regards,

      CallCloud

  • CallCloud, how I can get starter code now to link it in the Flexiroam pack? The have a 1 hour offer I would like to take.
I have just ordered the starter packs.

    • Hi elease,

We have sent you a barcode for one of the SIMs you have ordered to the email address you ordered from.

If you need anything else, please let us know.

      Regards,

      CallCloud

  • Hi,

Is there any compulsory activation for all 4 SIMs under this deal? Can I leave the SIM remain not activated???

    tnks

    • Hi kuikui,

Obviously we would prefer if the SIMs were activated and of course loaded with lots of data!

With the above said, it isn't compulsory to activate them.

The Flexiroam X solution is quite unique for a Travel SIM. It isn't designed to be for a single use. Once activated, it never expires.

The reason we ran this promotion is to demonstrate a attribute of the service, that is that you are able to gift data to other Flexiroam X users with the Flexishare feature.

We also find that many people who purchase from us quickly re-order more SIMs, so we figure why not save on postage (and having to process and pack another order) and instead pass the savings on to Ozbargainers!

Of course you can always give the SIM to a friend or family member that might be travelling, use it in a tablet, WiFi Hotspot, luggage tracker, smart watch, the list goes on and on!

If you don't need 4 SIMs there are other cheaper offers available on OzBargain.

I hope this helps, if you need anything else please let us know.

      Regards,

      CallCloud

  • Hi CallCloud,

Thanks for the update. I have a couple of questions, appreciate if you can provide answers.

    1. I prefer to purchase eSIM bout I don't have device to use it right now. How do I active the SIM then?

    2. Can I share the data package for all 4 SIMs? or the package would be a unique for each SIM?

    Tnks

    • Hi kuikui,

If you purchase an eSIM, we can hold off on shipping (emailing) it to you, until you are ready if you wish. As mentioned above, once activated, the SIMs/microchips/eSIMs don't expire, but they do have an expiration prior to activation.

We are seeking to build long term relationships with our customers, and are considering offering free eSIM upgrades to our existing customers when they upgrade their device to an eSIM capable device. Keep an eye on our FB page, OzBargain or join our mailing list and you'll be the 1st to know if we do.

Yes, you can share Data Plans that you purchase through the Flexiroam X App or from us. To see how this works please see out blog post:

      https://callcloud.com.au/blogs/travel-hacks/what-is-flexisha…

      Regards,

      CallCloud

      • You mentioned that "but they do have an expiration prior to activation". How long do I have to activate the SIMs before they expire? In another post you seemed to suggest that we can leave the SIM packs in a drawer and not activate them until we want to.

  • Some questions, as I have never used this product or similar before:
    * Say I buy data for country A, B, and C. Does the data get used first from the pre-purchased buckets for A, B, C, or does the 100 MB of included data get used first? I'm hoping it's the first one (pre-purchased data gets used first).
    * What happens if I go over my data allowance (pre-purchased buckets + included data) ? Does it just stop working, and there's no further charge?
    * If I purchase one of the Microchip options, and stick to my normal SIM, and I can receive text messages overseas at no charge, will that keep working? I.e. I can still receive text messages overseas, but use the flexiroam data?
    * Are the microchips removable and re-stickable? Asking as I tend to SIM hop my Australian SIM a lot, so I'd want to move it onto another SIM for a later trip. If that's not possible, would look at a standard SIM instead.

  • +1

    Hi nick j,

    Really good questions!

The hierarchy of Data Plan usage is:

    1. Start Date
    2. Destination
    3. Expiry Date

My take on this is that unfortunately the 100MB Starter Data would be consumed 1st. I'll double check this with Flexiroam, I might even run a little experiment (with an Australian Bundle today). Take it as the worst case, yeah it sucks a bit *unless of course you can use the data on a short airport stopover for instance and this avoids you buying a plan.

If you were planning to preserve the data for calling (very clever) then it looks like based on what I've been provided above that this won't work effectively. But let me double check and get back to you.

One thing I'll add here is that unless you are travelling to a remote destination or are using very little data (for say VoIP or a luggage tracker) and are taking advantage of the long expiry, the Global Data is quite expensive.

That said, there are some useful short term plans in the Flexiroam App. I won't put them on our website, but for example you can get a 1GB for 1 hour plan for USD $7.99. These types of plans can be handy if you are trying to achieve the lowest cost for Global Data.

    If that makes sense?

Yes, it just stops working. Prepaid daat, No excess charges.

Yes, again very clever of you. They won't work simultaneously though. You wold have to switch back to your Home SIM (using the App) to collect your SMS. You wouldn't have internet access at this time. You also should be careful to turn roaming off!! imessage still works on data of course so SMS form your apple buddies still comes through. You can also explore OTT Visual Voicemail Apps and voice to text as a receive voicemail "hack"

They microchips aren't designed to be re-stuck. You can, but I don't advise it. Flexiroam will (at their discretion) replace them if you changed phones. I believe you still have to pay postage though. Their is really expensive!

Of course you could buy plenty of microchips and exploit the 100MB free Global Data. (Why to get the feeling I shouldn't be encouraging you??) :)

Gold star for being savvy!! A true OzBargainer!!

    (I'm a little scared!!)

    Cheers,

    CallCloud

    • Thank you for explaining! And don't be worried, I'm not planning on doing anything that you should be worried about, I'm just trying to understand a new product :-)

And it's a pity it probably doesn't use the global data last. The ideal I think is to use the region-specific data first, as it's much cheaper, specific to that location, and expires sooner. My objective was to keep the global data as a backstop in case I underestimated data use in a particular location, rather than to use it for call minutes, but I can see the sense in using it for calls.

Have ordered a family pack of 4, and looking forward to trying it out.

Just thinking aloud, in terms of data, calls, and texts from the perspective of travelling overseas:

The data costs, whilst a lot more than the prepaid data on domestic SIMs, are very reasonable when you compare it to the other travel SIM alternatives. So I think the product is very strong here.

Calls I think you can work around with VoIP, or using the call function in the app. So I think the product is okay here.

The main weakness seems to be around text messaging. Even on a domestic prepaid SIM overseas you can receive text messages for free whilst overseas (that's the case on Telstra prepaid, Vodafone prepaid, amaysim prepaid, etc). And if you have a travelSIM from Australia Post, you can send & receive text messages to/from other travelSIMs for no charge whilst overseas - which gives really good network effects to get everyone on the same product. I know we can install over-the-top messaging apps (messenger, whatsapp, etc), but those have 2 requirements, 1) everyone has to have that app installed & configured (easy for a few people, harder for a larger group), and 2) everyone has to have reasonable data costs (and since other people will be using different products with higher costs, they will probably disable data). But text messages are built into all phones, and everyone knows how to use it, and they require no data. So for my 2 cents, if there were some way to allow receiving text messages for free, and ideally sending text messages to other flexiroam sims either for free or a low cost or similar, I believe that would make the product even better. So texting seems to me the main area where I think the product could be a lot stronger.

      • +1

        Cheers for the feedback!

I wasn't too concerned, if there is an logic gap or loophole in a product or offer in some respects it deserves to be exploited! That's to OZ and OzBargain spirit!

With the Global data phone call thing, in theory you could use an old phone and use it exclusively to make calls with the data I guess?

I hear you re text 110%! I hope to have a rocking offer from a new partner in the next couple of days…

        Stay tuned..

        Cheers,

        CallCloud

  • Hi OP, I'm taking the family (4 people) to Singapore (4 days) and Malaysia (4 days) in just over 90 days' time.

Probably need 3 gig of data for the whole 8 days each.

What's the best way to do this?

    • Hi Mingo,

You can get 4 SIM/microchip/eSIM starter packs with the Family discount promo we have running.

You could then buy the following Data Plans:

      10GB Singapore for 24 Days
      10GB Malaysia for 24 Days

Each Data Plan can be applied to a single account once you activated the SIM/microchip/eSIM.

You can then share the data as you please to the other users using Flexishare.

This would provide 2.5GB for each user, but you could split it however you like.

Each Starter kit also has 100MB.

You can buy additional Data Plans for this or any other trip using the Flexiroam X App.

We would suggest you do so within the 90 days discount window, and you can always cancel the Data Plan prior to it starting. In this case the credit will be returned to your wallet for future use.

Otherwise, you can just see how you go, and top up only if you need to while travelling, but this will be done at higher rates

I hope this helps. If you need anything else, please let us know.

      Regards,

      CallCloud.

      • Beautiful, thanks for the explanation.

So, i buy the family kit. When it arrives, activate one or more Sims. Then purchase the data packs (one data pack each on two different Sims and share the data). Got it.

If i buy now, how quickly will they ship? We touch down in Singapore on the 1st October, which is 94 days away.

        Thanks!
