This model must be like 10 year old or something? Amazing they still have it in stock, let alone are selling it!

    • +2

Yep, it's a 2012 model (as in the name U2412M) introduced in late 2011.

The only other 24" 1920x1200 monitor sold by Dell is the U2415 (a 2015 model) which is currently priced at $539

LOL…I'm looking at a pair of U2410 screens right at this minute. Now, they ARE 10 years old.

    • Yeah… I still have one of them, in portrait mode now. cost me almost $600 back in the day, damnit.

      • +2

You should have waited 6 more years mate

        • my real failure was not knowing about ozb back then :'(

    • +1

I still have one on my desk. 16:10 is such a luxury, a shame it has fallen by the wayside.

    • +2

I own 4 x U2405 monitors across a number of PCs. They would be from around 2005. Still running fine, and there hadn’t been much reason to replace them.

ive got 3x Dell ultrasharp 2408WFP's: some of which aren't faring as well. I'd get 2 of them repaired if it was viable. One wont turn on anymore, another's screen now has those dark vertical stripes (here and there), and my main one (that i do still use) i have to bang the top or side to stop it from solarising periodically … that's very fun ! a bit 'fonz' and i dont mind at all

  • Anyone use one of these with a Macbook pro? Interested to hear how the text rendering is on Mojave

    • Shouldn't be any difference. It's not a Retina/HiDPI screen or anything.

  • +2

These were great monitors back in the day. They are showing their age now, a little "small" and no HDMI only DVI and VGA cable connections. 16:10 is far nicer to use though than 16:9.

Pretty good price though for new, they seem to last forever.

They do have DisplayPort as well, as per specs:

      Interfaces
      • DVI-D (HDCP)
      • DisplayPort
      • VGA
      • USB 2.0 upstream (Type B)
      • 4 x USB 2.0 downstream (Type A)

      • +1

Well there you go, Thanks for the correction!

  • Interesting. Why this over something new and more recent?

    • +2

16:10 is a "nicer" ratio; more usable for most purposes.

      • Hmm. I see. Never used it before, or really seen it in action.

        • +1

Dell monitors in general always tend to be more expensive, they are normally very good and have good colors/design/ergonomics though. Just a more premium product from what I've found.

          • @puzzles2: Ah, I see.

I'd be interested in this one, but I think the awkward resolution would be annoying for gaming.

            • @Selenium: These are side monitors to your main gaming display.

              • @Lukian: Ah, fair nuff. Already got two of those.

    • 24" 16:10 is bigger than 24" 16:9. The switch to 16:9 was a way to cut costs by advertising the same size when in fact the screen was smaller.

I remember buying two of these from 2012! It's only $10 cheaper now than what I paid back then. Lovely to see something not depreciate that quick. No HDMI can be a pain, but luckily I'm using it for pre-2013 systems, so DVI suits just fine. At most just use an HDMI to DVI adapter.

    • No HDMI can be a pain,

You have a low pain tolerance. DP is a superset of hdmi, and needs only a $2 mechanical adaptor, or better a dp-hdmi cable.

They really should include a hdmi adaptor in the box, would cost them 20c.

  • I didn't pay that much more for an IPS 23" 1920x1200 in 2011… seems strange to see them refurb at that price.

AUD was much stronger in 2011.

A good work monitor for office stuff. We have bought about 50 of these for work and haven't had one failure as yet. 16:10 allows you to just display two documents side by side.

  • I cannot buy it !!

I'm not the guy you replied to but I tried to buy one this morning and it looks like they've increased the price of the remaining ones to $219, although their inventory has not been updated to reflect it.

*Edit: Correction, the $219 was not for Australia after I spoke with the rep a second time:

        Session Started with Agent (Dell_Rep)
Agent (Dell_Rep): "Hello Redacted Welcome to Dell Refurbished Outlet Sales Chat. My name is Dell_Rep. How may I help you today?"
Redacted: "Hi Dell_Rep, me again. How many As New U2412M's do you have?"
        Agent (Dell_Rep): "currently none available"
Redacted: "What 24 inch AS new monitors do you have available right now?"
        Agent (Dell_Rep): "Dell 24 Monitor - S2419H REFURBISHED $ 159"
        Agent (Dell_Rep): "Dell 24 Monitor for Video-Conference - P2418HZm REFURBISHED $ 189"
Redacted: "Earlier when we spoke there was a U2412M for $219?"
Agent (Dell_Rep): "just checked that, it is not available for Australia region"
Redacted: "So it is just the S2419H REFURBISHED and 2418HZm REFURBISHED? No other monitors?"
Agent (Dell_Rep): "yes that 2 unfortunately"
Redacted: "What time roughly does the outlet page get updated?"
Agent (Dell_Rep): "roughly in the afternoon, around 3-4PM"
Redacted: "Every day or just Monday?"
        Agent (Dell_Rep): "everyday basis"
Redacted: "OK I'll check back then — thank you!"
Agent (Dell_Rep): "okay sure thank you"

        • @002
It looks like the Outlet page has been updated and there's only 2 U2412M monitors left (it was 129 this morning).

Did you end up buying one?

          • +1

@1bug: No mate I tried my darndest but they tell me there's none left, despite having two listed like you said. Shame — I could have really used one of these bad boys after my venerable U2410f bit the dust a few weeks ago.

They sent me an updated spreadsheet and there are no more U2412M's on it :(

  • Thanks, just ordered one through the online chat.

been looking for a 16:10 monitor for a while now.

    • +1

Ordered Tuesday and arrived today. Is definitely brand new and while it might be an old model number, was manufactured April 2019.

      • Thanks for the feedback. I'm sure other potential buyers will find it useful.
