It's roughly $1066aud in current conversion rates. It's a sweet deal. Even better if it was back in the $1000 threshold days and a bit better conversion.

But if you want a printer that works well, is throughly documented on how to build (and is a good duo project for fun), this is the best printer you can get before you go above $2500

Get the kit if you're going to get a Prusa, excellent assembly docs and will help to learn lots about it.
My postage was quite expensive last year but it came from Prague to Cairns in about 4-5 days and was delivered on a Sunday. DHL i think.

  • I paid 1003AUD for mine ~1yr ago, so ~1250 after GST and fees, still unhappy about that… the printer is great though.

    • Out of interest, what were the fees (apart from 10% GST)?

      • Australian Customs fee of something ~170 and a DHL processing free of ~80. Called to try to get them to waive it but they weren't having any of it.

        • DHL fee? Is that shipping costs

          • @imp: Nope, extra fee for processing the import duties

$1,028.86 if you pay in Euros.

    • Thanks for the heads up just about to order one.

A mate of mine bought in US$ and picked it up from DHL and didn't get stung for customs duty. He thinks they read $750 and thought it was Aus$. Might have just been lucky

  • DUTY After $1069.39 (after conversion)is: GST on importation $143.98, AUST GOVT Charges $93.00 and DHL Disbursment Charges of $20.00 makes it $1326.36 i.e. 24% on importing a kit. Outrageous, for a KIT imported from a developing country like Chech Republic! Australia doesn't support small business and hobbysts at all!

    • So same item posted at essentially the same time.
You paid $40 more than me due to the currency.

DHL charging you $4 more GST (so about right). Then $10 more for the mysterious Govt charges, but $2 less than me on Disbursement.

  • Printer kit has arrived at DHL and I have been sent a bill for $244.75 for importation duty.
The breakdown they have provided is GST ON IMPORTATION (TX) -139.75, DISBURSEMENT FEE (AV) $22 and AUST GOVT CHARGES (L1) $83.
    Cost of printer was $1032.94.
How do they get $244.75 from that ? Should be 5% import duty $51.60 plus 10% GST $108.36 - $159.69. Then a Disbursement fee of $20 (according to their website). Total of $179.69. So where is the extra $65 coming from?

Probably just speaking to myself here, but if anyone else checks this thread after getting stung additional charges here seems to be the answer.

PRUSA have sent the consignment with a total cost in the currency you paid. Customs have then decided to add an additional amount for shipping and insurance to the value of the goods (in my case $370.45) and calculated the GST and Duty on that amount as well. They also seem to charge $23.30 for the processing fee. I can not find out how they have decided on this figure as according to the web, they calculate missing shipping and insurance at 10% of the value… not 37%.

I am in the process of disputing the additional amount.

  • My fees total was $248.95. I really hope it is better than my Cocoon Touch.

DHL have advised that my dispute has been upheld and the GST valuation has been reduced accordingly.

Worth checking and getting corrected if you can wait a day or so for the delivery.
