What Do YOU Do on The Weekend?

Weekends always make me question my lifestyle choices because I usually do nothing. Even though that's exactly what I want to do, I can't help but feel guilty or destructive over it. Would love to hear what you guys do on the weekends, particularly those who work full time or have families.

Most weekends I'm at home alone, gaming, watching TV, or just relaxing with a drink in hand. If the weather is OK I'll walk the dog or go for a quick stroll to the shops. Overall I would say my weekends are very lazy though. Making big plans is usually a no-no for me because I work too hard during the week so the weekend is my time to be free from any plans or obligations. Does anyone else feel this way and would you consider it "common" or "normal"?

  • mind my own business

  • IT guy as well. When my gf is at work on the weekends, I clean the house, cook, F5 ozbargain and research on my hobby (horology) and write blogs. I stayed away from gaming on weekends as I feel like I need to do something more productive.

Before that, I did photography and would always have a model for TFP during the weekends. Keeps the 1-5 busy and a chance to get some sunshine.

  • Drink beer at the pub and watch the footy. What more could you ask for??

  • A few years ago a mate from Asia shared this video with me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWbPBNViXl8&feature=youtu.be
    Does it help ?

  • Still waiting for the navel fluff colour poll and forum topic.

  • Lots of fun activities ya can do at the wknds. usually, I like to grab a couple of beers, with my friends, ride bicycles, relax after week, play some video games.

This is what I'd do if left entirely to my own devices, but I find that my "baseline/default" settings basically involve no socialising which, even if I may not always feel like, I objectively know to be less than ideal.

So I make sure I catch up with friends every weekend, on one of the two days, and if possible both days. I see them little enough during the week as it is.

  • I have almost zero down-time during the week, so weekends are usually my chance to reset and prepare for the new week. I'll try and do laundry, clean my apartment, do some grocery shopping and then cooking for the week.

I'll also try and get to the gym at least once, and if the weather is nice I'll go for a walk along the river near my place and then on Sunday evening I have a board games night with a few friends.

  • +1

    Lounge around the house.

  • Don't feel guilty about taking some time off on the weekends — that's what you should do especially when you have a full-time, weekday job. I'm not sure if it would help make you feel like you made the most out of your weekend, but I make a schedule of my activities, maybe even squeeze an activity I find fulfilling now and then. Makes me think that I have more control over the weekend, even when I'm allotting it for hobbies.

  • I used to be just like you OP. I have other hobbies too now, but may I suggest you go out and buy a couple of tomato plants and see how they go (may need to wait a couple more weeks if you live somewhere cold, but we're close).

I had zero gardening experience, but watering my tomatoes in the summer evenings and harvesting masses of them knowing that I'd grown them myself was more rewarding that you might believe.

Now I've expanded that to a little plot about 3x3m and I've been growing more tomatoes and spinach than I could eat. Outside of preparing the plot and sowing the seeds it's not even 2 hours a week to take care of. Going to try some pumpkin and beans next.

If you don't have a yard, tomatoes in a pot is just as easy. And you can do anything with them from making sauce to chucking them on your frozen pizza depending on how keen you are lol.

Really though the effort vs reward factor is off the charts for me, highly recommend giving it a go. You can buy ready to go tomato plants from Bunnings for less than two snags.

    • Gardening is really a fulfilling hobby! I've been starting with herbs and smaller vegetables (eggplants, tomatoes, etc) I can grow right on my terrace. The harvest is really the special part: love eating fresh veggies I've grown myself. I used to have entirely different hobbies: bikes, driving around town with friends (we bring our own jeeps and just talk thru radios lke this: https://www.ratedradardetector.org/radio/cb/best). Actually, we even did a few races back then. Now that I'm older, I love a more laidback hobby. Would want to be more active though, so I might start running soon.
