835

Ready for a tag for toll roads? Right now E-way is waiving the tag deposit (usually $20 per tag).

When you pay $40 to get set up you'll have your first $40 worth of tolls prepaid.

Existing E-way customers can get an extra tag without paying the deposit.

            • @dazweeja: You're welcome. Thanks for considering us!

For Melbourne/Victoria EastLink tag is cheaper. Get this deal only if you are in NSW :-)

      • Thanks mate. It looks like that would be slightly cheaper because of no credit card fee.

    • +1

Get an eastlink account, linkt charge you a fee to top up your account. Eastlink accounts are the best unless you have a Ute or a truck.

  • How is it justified that the M4 went back to being a tolled?

  • Out of interest, can anyone say whether their credit card payments to e-way have been been treated by their credit cards as a 'government' transaction (and therefore ineligible for points/as a qualifying transaction for sign-on points)?

    • +1

I can't answer that specifically, but e-way credit card fees apply:
Visa / Mastercard debit card: 0.49% of transaction value
Visa/Mastercard & American Express credit card: 0.74% of transaction value

Other providers charge no credit card fees.

  • I currently have a Tagless account with Linkt. If I want to move provider, do I need to transfer this account or close it?

    • E-way is a separate business to Linkt so you wouldn't be able to transfer the account.

      • I assume I need to close my Linkt account once I open a new E-Way account?

        • Yes you would need to close your linkt account. I definitely recommend closing linkt accounts, they are ripoffs eastlink is cheaper in everyway.

          • @melbstheburn: Can you elaborate? Don't Linkt just charge you the toll fee, where does the ripoff actually happen…

            • @f4te: Everytime you top up a linkt account you are charged a fee. They also have annual fees per tag. Eastlink doesn't have annual fees and don't charge a top up fee

              • @melbstheburn: I see a credit card surcharge on mine, but no annual fee (2 tags). Might still look into Eastlink, but I use it so rarely that the surcharge is negligible ($0.13 for a $25 recharge).

  • Is the prepayment of $40 refundable?

    • It's $40 worth of tolls. So it would be refunded if you decided you didn't need a toll account any longer and had pre-paid funds left.

  • Does it cover any toll road within VIC/NSW/QLD ?

    • Yes, it covers all Australian toll roads.

  • +1

I would have considered this but the credit card surcharge (0.74%) is higher than Linkt's (0.52%) so not worth the trouble changing over.

    • If you have an existing arrangement and it's working for you - no need to switch.

    • +1

Linkt charge 2.15% on Amex vs Eway 0.74%.

    • Eastlink doesnt charge surcharge and accepts diners.

Use Eastlink tags (no deposit) for citylink trips. Not sure if it can be used in Syd or Brisbane.

      • Eastlink accounts can be used aus wide.

  • Is it possible to share a balance and/or a tag between multiple vehicles? I only need to use toll roads once or twice a year and as I have several vehicles and don't want to be limited to which one I have to take for a particular trip along with the deposit charge, tags have always been in the CBF basket and so I've never bothered getting one.

If I have to have a separate tag and balance for each vehicle then they can remain in the CBF pile.

    • You absolutely can have all your vehicles on the one account. You can share the tag, but right now I'd get one for each vehicle. They are deposit free and that's easier than switching them around.

  • Eastlink has no credit card surcharge and no tag deposit - for many people that saving will be more significant than not paying a deposit. Eastlink takes high-points cards too - I use a Citibank linked Diners card.

NSW people claiming cashback on M5 need to be with a NSW tag provider - but nobody else should be!

So why did you neg the deal? M5 users are people too?

  • I've been meaning to get these and was just about to bite the bullet. Super!

    • Really glad to be able to help!

  • I literally ordered a new tag last week. Rep - any chance of a goodwill credit? Cheers.

    • Please contact us with your account details so we can have a look at this for you. [email protected], 1300 555 833, Facebook messenger @ewaytollpay

  • I moved to an area specifically to avoid using toll roads for my daily commute to work. Costs are insane and keep rising. Free deposit whoopy do.

Its a tax on battlers by ruthless foreign multinational companies.

Can I ask what type of tag you guys issue? Is your beep as loud as the Eastlink ones? Does it make a very soft Twirl or just a standard beep? On Eastlink we have a toll every minute or so, the beeps can get frustrating.

    • We use a "QFree" brand tag, which is likely different than your current tag. However the sound they make is calibrated to an Australian standard so they should all deliver a similar experience. You could try some sticky tape over the microphone to ease off the noise. You just want to make sure you don't miss it should the tag be alerting you to an unexpected issue with your account.

      • Rental cars have one that make a very silent twirl sound. Do you have those?

        • The sound ours make meets the Australian standard, which is an audible beep.

  • Hi, we have two cars and just occasionally use the etag. For the second etag do we need to prepay $40 as well or could we have totally for free? Thanks

    • +1

If your account is with E-way the offer includes current customers being able to get extra tags with no deposit.

      • +1

Hi, my account is not with easy. That sucks. I’m going to order two and return the other one we have with rta :)

    • +1

I just ordered 2 tags (new customer) and both were free. I only had to pay one lot of $40 and it looks like the two tags are linked to the same account.

      • Thanks! Welcome to E-way. You'll be able to check the vehicles and tags on your account yourself through logging in to tollpay.com.au.

OR tell transurban to stick it where it fits and avoid toll roads.

  • +1

    Thanks OP, applied for one

    • So glad we could help! Welcome aboard.

  • What happens if tag is lost?

    • There is a $20 fee to replace a lost tag. (Or if you paid a deposit, the deposit is forfeited).

  • I am in canberra and I goto Sydney may be once a year and occasionally to Melbourne. Which should i go with? Eastlink/ eway or none?

    • Of course we vote E-way… but also we recommend getting set up rather than organising to pay a trip each time. Then you don't have to worry about paying the toll - or forgetting to pay the toll and ending up with extra fees. All ad-hoc solutions will mean fees that could have been avoided.

  • Outbound
Flemington Rd - Mount Alexander Rd - Enter freeway from Bulla Rd
    Inbound
Exit at Bell Street - Sydney Road - first rate felafel and other treats along the way

No tolls. We do that trip at lot, sometimes might use the Westgate Freeway/WRR option. At the moment with all the Transurban works on foot, the WRR option can be unpleasant

    No tolls.

Oh and no e-tag means less data collection from anyone with access to your e-tag

  • I don't have a tag or anything but something called Linkt charges my credit card every month. Do I need to close my account with them if I want to use this?

    • It would be a good idea to be sure about the service you are already paying for. With a tag account you'll only be charged when you are using toll roads, not ongoing account keeping fees. You do only need one account for paying tolls.

  • how do you check what toll tag you have on your car? I bought a second-hand car a few months back, and since I haven't actually been on a toll road I haven't had to pay.

    • Do you have a tag in your car? If so, it should have a company name and contact details on it.

  • Any idea what will happen with M5 cashback for July trips if I cancel RMS tag now?

    • Best to close the RMS account after you have claimed all of your outstanding Cashback.

  • Out of topic: how often does your tag go faulty?
Called about a faulty tag that suddenly doesn't scan.
Call centre keep challenging my claim, saying it is not in right spot, which it was on the same spot for several year.

I put another tag on the same spot and it scans!!

Called back and they remained the same story and I finally got them go "authorised" a return to NSW service and awaiting further investigation and testing.

Anyway, not complaining, just wanna have better understanding.

  • Are there any account fees or top up fees?

  • can you claim etag cashback with these for NSW M5…are there other cashbacks for melbourne available?

    • Yes, with an E-way tag you can register for M5 Cashback. The M5 scheme is the only Cashback scheme in Australia. The NSW Governnment also offers Toll Relief for NSW. Find out more about both schemes: https://www.tollpay.com.au/m5-cashback

  • can i open an account with 2 tags?
with fee waived for both tags?

    • Yes you can. The fee is waived for both tags.

  • Hi
I had E Way tag that is pretty old , but I think I still have $40 in it , the tag itself is not working any more ( it is over 15 years old ) , the tag number on the unit is unreadable , what can I do to get it replace , thank for your help

    • Just bring it to us at the M5 office at Hammondville. Or login to tollpay.com.au and click on 'Tags and licence plates' in the left hand menu and then choose 'Faulty/lost/stolen tag' on the top tab.

      • +1

Thanks very much , I do not think I can bring it to M5 office to get it replace because it is on M5 and I can not log in to tollpay.com.au due to forgetting user name , password , but It has the address , and name ( old email was long gone ) , can I mail it to E-way, Private Bag 78, Moorebank NSW 1875 ?

        • Hey there. You certainly can mail the faulty tag back to us at that address. In the meantime we can arrange a new one for you but need some information like your account number if you can?

          • @[Deactivated]: All I have is Address , old car plate number ( ZCU 401 ), Name ( credit card number payment was long gone too , now use different bank ) , by the way just order a new one ( acc 491834 ), but still would like to fix the old one . thank .

  • Thanks OP! I ordered a new tag. Right now, I have a Linkt tagless account (app based) and wanted to avoid paying the “matching” fee each time.

I have a question about a situation where my tag does not beep for some reason on entering a toll road. In that case, would E-Way charge a matching fee and settle the toll OR there would be no matching and I would receive a toll notice?

    Thanks!

    • Can you let us know the toll road and entry point you are entering on?

      • Usually M4, entry point James Ruse Drive.

But a few times a year also use M2/M5/M7 as well can’t say I use the same entry point on these each time.
        Thanks!

        • Hi, thanks for the info. It is difficult to be able to pinpoint why a tag does not beep. There are instances where a tag may not seem to beep but is captured at the gantry. If the tag signal does not work then yes there is a matching fee charged by the Motorway for the need to take and produce a number plate image. This is not a tolling account charge so it would be applied to your account. I note you have a tagless account so I assume this is another account you have which has a tag attached to it?

          • @[Deactivated]: Yes, this is a new account with E-way for the same car and on receiving the new tag, I plan to de-register my car with Linkt to avoid any issues.
But it’s good to know that in case the tag does not beep it will be handled automatically (with an additional fee) rather than having to worry about a toll notice.
            Thanks!

            • +1

@strike1: Welcome to the E-way family, we are so pleased. If you have any issues at all with your account please reach out to us either through calling us on 1300 555 833, or you can email us at [email protected].

  • This deal still seem to be active. I was able to just register for a new tag account with deposit waived.

  • Yes still active - as of today the front page says they waive deposit until 5th August

  • Stupid me created a new account for the parents and sister and ordered new tags for them.

I was under the impression that we needed a new account and was going to close the existing accounts.

how do we close the new accounts as I've gone ahead and requested new tags for their individual existing account?

    • All good, called them and cancelled the new account.

  • I've received mine but I was wondering, is the tag only "on" when clipped into it's mount? There's a flat plastic protrusion on the mount that goes through a slot on the tag so I'm wondering if this activates the tag and otherwise it's off?

Not sure I really want to mount it given there's no room behind the mirror thanks to the big cluster of sensors and cameras for all the safety features plus my dash cam already.
