    Thanks OP

While PIA has served me well for a number of years when my renewal is up I will be switching to NORDvpn

    • +7

      Why is that?

      • +25

His favourite YouTuber's recommended it, obviously

    • +3

Reason? (I'm also using PIA but might consider changing)

      • +4

I'm changing the other way. I'm hearing from users that PIA is faster than Nord

        • Same - im changing for port fowarding.

    • +3

PIA doesn't get around geoblock well (eg Optus Sport)

    • +2

I did the reverse years ago. Was with Nord, now spent 2 years with PIA. PIA has been miles faster and more reliable for me. Wouldn't consider changing again as PIA ticks all my boxes in a VPN provider. YMMV though.

  • +1

Not sure why but Netflix randomly works with PIA running. Some days I get the proxy error other days I don't.

    • +1

I think it depends on whether the IP you end up with is blocked/flagged as a VPN by Netflix.

  • +10

PIA are in the 'Five Eyes' jurisdiction. Your data isn't private with this VPN. They have been verified to keep "no logs" but that can change without your knowledge (and has happened before to other VPN providers). (USA-based, Patriot Act).

They're still subject to data retention laws. There are better options if this is a concern for anyone.

    Here's a good comparison site:

    • Great website cheers :-) Luckily mine ticks the boxes that are important to me (Ivacy) Was surprised at a few red boxes with Torguard I thought they were a top tier VPN. Lucky a great deal came up on Ivacy a while back just as my Torguard was finishing.

    • has anyone tried trust zone? they seems to be rated quite highly and their pricing doesn't look too bad.

  • Can anyone confirm if US Netflix works with this ? I am getting conflicting answers. Some say it works, some say it doesn't.

    • +3

You're getting those answers because sometimes it does work, and sometimes it doesn't. Depends if that particular IP you have been assigned has been flagged by Netflix or not.

As a guide though, PIA do not officially support Netflix use.

    • +1

It doesn’t work most of the time, get Ivacy or nord

      • Bear in mind that even though Nord supports it, it doesn't necessarily have the speed to support HD or above. I have 100mbs connection and got pixellated results on international streaming

  • Works for me

  • This or Ivacy or ExpressVPN?

    • Was thinking the same ivacy is or was cheap lifetime vpn or this.

  • +2

I used PIA for more than 8 years unfortunately they dumped geoblocking , it only works sometimes randomly for Netflix and other geoblocks. This is caused mass Exodus from PIA to other services

I ended up switching to IVACY after trying many other alternatives happy to say they are really good. PIA is def the best in terms of speed but look into Ivacy if you are also looking for going around geoblock

    • Thanks mate, Is this a good deal for Ivacy ? USD 80 for 5 years.

Ivacy VPN Lifetime Subscription US $24.00 (AU ~$33.72

      • No you can get it for $24 usd lifetime i think i might just grab that,i pay for my netflix usa and use getlix but was thinking of a vpn but do i need it as never needed one for yrs.

        • Have you guys tried streaming Netflix US on Ivacy ? I'd give it a go if it has worked. I'm on NBN 50 - how much loss is there ?

  • FYI, just signed up with surfshark. So far US Netflix works using PC, Android phone and and LG web OS. No buffering and streaming good. Speed test from my PC connected via WiFi to US server is around 50M. Without VPN is around 70M.

  • It's a good deal

  • Thank you, I just missed out on the previous offer. For torrents, PIA offers excellent speeds with NBN. I hope that these deals do not diminish the quality of their services.

  • +2

Express vpn seems the best but most expensive

    $6.66 per month on sale.

I noticed like others said some don't work with Netflix or Hulu

Some don't work in China and have been flagged by the powers that be

    • I tried Express VPN but it was really slow and caused me a bunch of other issues. Got a refund and going back to PIA.

  • Can I buy the license now and add on my existing account?

    • I'd like to know also …

      • I signed up and it created a new account for me once I redeemed the StackSocial key on their site (It's a Gift Card redemption).

I'd say there's a chance that you can contact support with the code to get the extra 3 years combined onto your original account.

I've just contacted them now about combining my accounts.

  • Anyone done comparisons with Windsribe? I am using Windscribe at the moment. Telstra cable 100/5 Sydney. Getting about 90% speed on average with Sydney servers with 2ms latemcy loss.

  • As this is sold by a 3rd party (Social stack) this will not auto-renew once it expires. Although PIA does have many discounted deals all year round. So if your on a good bi-yearly or yearly plan already with PIA you might want to consider whether it's worth it or not.

  • I always found PIA is top choice for everyone here but some people disagree with their speed and geo-blocking also PIA are in the 'Five Eyes' jurisdiction what to say about this?

    • -1

It means use at own risk.

Unless you are using it for illegal activity, there is no real fear of them giving you up to whoever is after you.

If you illegally download a movie, sure someone might want to fine you.

But if you're using it for privacy or geoblocking, no one is going to want to prosecute you for that. You will never get yourself onto their radar in the first place.

  • Why VPN when you can just torrent? 🤔

    • +2

What does one have to do with the other? If anything if you’re torrenting you’d want to be using a VPN

    • use MiRC

      Torrent are being watchy

  • Windscribe was way cheaper than this.

    • Looking on the Windscribe site it has a discount of 44% off per year at $4.08 per month ($49 USD per year). Am I missing something here ? Do they have better deals at times ?

  • I purchased from these guys 2 years ago on last deal.
Just purchased again, the coupon code is still working as of now.
